I have been really pleased with the Velocitor over the years since it's introduction. Years ago in 80s & 90s Winchester had a "SuperMax" that was quite hot and very accurate. We used it on varmints with great results. When CCI brought out the the Velocitor it filled that spot. It is more accurate than Stinger, Yellow Jacket and Viper. Thanks

I have found Velocitor to be more accurate than the lighter and faster rounds as well, but not as accurate as say Mini-Mags or Super Extras.

I've been enjoying all your .22 gel test vids. I'm glad you don't do all sorts of goofy antics or act like some hillbilly clown like a lot of the gun tubers. My only criticism is that when you're testing several bullets, especially ones that fragment or otherwise make larger cavities, it becomes hard to discern which track is which. Otherwise, these vids are 10/10 and very helpful. There seem to be a lot of quality vids covering .22 exterior ballistics, but you're filling the deficit of quality vids on .22 terminal ballistics. Keep up the good work!

Speaking from experience the Winchester 40 grainer puts the absolute smack down on small game. So much so I wouldn't recommend it if you're intending on eating your hunt. Dropped a massive jack rabbit DRT and it was stone dead. Have blown the brains out of some gophers with em too. Where as traditional hollow points have just poked a hole through them. Would be confident in the interceptor and velocitor on Fox and probably even coyotes if I had a clear shot with that amount of penetration and damage.

I haven't shot them outside of plinking large targets and gel tests (the Winchester)- how is the accuracy with them and from what gun? For example, I always liked the Velocitors back in the day for the extra punch, but the accuracy wasn't as good through my guns as with the Mini-Mags.

Great video! I’ve gone back and re-watched some of your oldies, also. Aguila interceptor is my fav-flat nose (or soft point in their magnum) are my pics-they seem to expand for me, even better than hollow points. Just got home from shooting my 10-22. After a lot of attention to tweaking and testing my ARs lately, the .22s are just down-right fun! You and Old Fat Dad are the best for us .22 fans! Chris in Texas

CCI Velocitors are my no.1 homestead varmint removal round. I view these to be good enough for anything up to coyote sized animals from a 16" barrel, and I would not feel underarmed in a home defense scenario with a 25rd 10/22 or S&W M&P15-22 loaded with these either. Interceptors are right there too.

Depends on the application, but either the Supermaximum HP, or Interceptor HP if I need more penetration. Velocitor was always my pick for these heavy hitters, but I'd say the Interceptor beat it in the gel test- and the Supermax beats the Stinger too IMO.
@Valorius
@Valorius Жыл бұрын
@@BuckeyeBallistics I definitely agree supermax > stinger. I have always viewed Interceptor and velocitor to be equal, but no doubt the interceptor did fantastic in your gel test. Very, very impressive. Buffman Range did a chrono test of Supermax from a 5" 1911 and it was hitting 1400fps. That's insane from a handgun for .22LR. Of course Supermax and Stinger are not really .22LR, they both use a longer 5.5x18.5mm case vs the 17mm case of conventional 22LR...that's their secret...they're actually a different caliber, lol.
@BuckeyeBallistics
@BuckeyeBallistics Жыл бұрын
Supermax is hands down the winner from a pistol. It still expands beautifully, whereas the others (including Velocitor and Interceptor) don't expand much from pistol velocities (Stinger still does ok). I did a giant pistol test a while back if you haven't seen that one- I tested like 20 different hollow points, including all the ones in these last 3 videos...

Really good demonstration here. My wife and teenagers are more comfortable with a 10/22 than a larger caliber weapon should they find themselves in a home defense situation. Our standard has always been MiniMags but I’ll be stocking up on some of those Interceptors now. I appreciate your videos. Very straightforward and to the point.

Thank you for posting this. I have been shooting rimfire for about 40 years. Out of all the brands of rimfire; I have found Winchester to be the least reliable ones made. Especially what they have made in the last 5+ years. A recent box of Winchester M22 had an 1 out of 7 average with a crooked round! I will never buy Winchester rimfire again.

That's a big heavy gun (if a pistol), which helps with stability/accuracy. The first (and only) time I ever shot one, I was hitting all the target just like with 9mm. I too, was a little shocked though admittedly. I always wanted a DE in .44 Mag...

Our 'stash' is stingers, velocitors, standard velocity and Norma standard velocity...for carry we prefer the velocitors...for range work we will use anything we can lay hands on, matching certain ammo brands to certain guns...can't deny the other brands performed okay, and no issue with folks that prefer their own favorites...the other bottom line is everyone should own at least one .22 of some type...

The Aguila Super Extra are worth a look if you haven't tried them, it is my preferred plinking round (price, accuracy, feeding, reliability). The round nose at least are pretty accurate, and I just recently discovered off camera that the hollow point version performs really well in the gel (video soon).

When you hit gel near the bottom (when it's sitting on a table or whatever) you restrict the amount the gel can deform, therefore making the temporary wounds cavity appear lesser. It's a well known thing. You could put the same round under each round and get totally different results.

Can you please do a test with a bolt action rifle?
@BuckeyeBallistics
@BuckeyeBallistics 9 ай бұрын
There is no difference. I have done extensive research on the subject and the difference in velocity, if any, semi auto compared to bolt action, is negligible at best. Barrel length affects it far more, and even rifling type, than does action type. And as for barrel length, most .22 ammo reaches maximum velocity by 16-18". If I ran a bolt action with a 22" barrel for example, at most you would see a 50fps difference from very few select rounds (if even that), and 90% or more of that increase would be from the barrel length- because some "hyper" velocity .22 ammo does gain a small amount of velocity beyone 18" of barrel. But even at that, 50fps more at these velocities is only about a 4% increase, which I seriously doubt 4% would change the performance or effect on the bullets or gel much...

Shoot all the individuals rounds at a animal they don't open like that because of animal is not that thick that's why yours opened up a squirrel or rabbit does not compare to that thickness and death hollow points do not open for the intended use on a rabbit or squirrel or groundhog trust me I know
@BuckeyeBallistics
@BuckeyeBallistics Жыл бұрын
I'll trust my own experience with shooting critters with various .22lr hollow point bullets over the years. You can't tell me they don't expand when I've literally pulled them out of game expanded. Also when little birdies go "pop" with the hollowpoints but don't with the round nose bullets, that also pretty conclusive evidence...
