Saki did great. She is so adorable and awesome. The interviewer dude..... not so much. Nemophila put on an awesome show at Aftershock! Everyone is very happy they came to the USA.

Saki is a 1st class musician and lady. Intelligent, authentic, graceful, sophisticated and natural. The world should really wake up to the Japanese metal and music scene. There's so much good stuff and it has a uniqueness about it like nowhere else on earth. Spread the word kids !!!

Big Nemophila fan and big Babymetal fan. I’m quite familiar with Saki (Nemophila Guitarist) and her previous groups. Just when I think I can’t love (appreciate) her more I find another interview. I just found out this band December 2022. I love them! great vocals, great guitars, great drums, heavy riffs, good looking, what more can you ask for. They're coming to San Francisco March 8, 2023 I'm going! who wants to go?

It's so cool to hear that their bass player likes Code Orange. I'm a big fan of them, so it's exciting to hear other musicians taking notice. Generally, it's nice to see that Nemophila seems to have genuine love for heavy music.

What really sticks with me about these kinds of things is how almost nobody can be bothered to listen to how the name of the band is pronounced. It's not hard, she says it at least 3 times, and he still just keeps saying "Neemophilia". I'm sure there are people who think it doesn't matter or whatever, but it comes across as ignorant, uninformed, and uninterested. Even just reading it closely one time is enough to get it right.

@@mikesleftarm84 Couldn't agree more. I'm sure interviewers are somewhat overloaded since they had so many bands to cover, true professionals take the time and put in the work to be fully prepared though, they knew who would be there for months.

ただ外国人インタビュアーがネモフィリア、ネモフィリアって失礼だからちゃんと覚えて欲しい日本人からしたら逆にどうやってそう読めるのか不思議知らなくても普通に読めばネモフィラ英語圏外国人全般的花冷えの事もハナビーって言うしスペル的に外国人に発音難しいのか？てかこの動画まぁざっくりと大体言ってる内容わかるけど日本人用に日本語翻訳付けて欲しかった

Nemo-phi-la - I was cringing for poor Saki as he screwed up their name every time and didn’t listen to her at it. It’s not hard… 😜 Except apparently it is. 🙄 Anyway, rock goddess right there, he didn’t even know! Roll on March. 😊

@@MrDeadmanDT I don't think it is an American thing. I have heard Europeans make the same pronunciation mistake. I am not sure why so many people see an "i" that is not there. When I first discovered the band, I pronounced it Nemo, as in Finding Nemo, and phila, as in Philadelphia. I assumed I was way off but ended up being very close. I think the actual pronunciation of Nemophila, the flower, is totally different so not even the band has it right.

It's not hard to understand why. The suffix "philia" is one a lot of people are very familiar with because it is used in a number of words that people already know. Whereas relatively few people are familiar with the flower.

Was this before or after Nemophila's epic set at the festival? If after, it seems like the interview could have covered something about their experience at Aftershock, the venue, the audience reception, how this Festival differs from the others they've played, or meeting members from other bands like The Warning (if they had already had that meeting). If before, what were they expecting, how Saki anticipated the experience, and the band's support and concern for Mayu giving 110% onstage in 90- degree heat during her last trimester (so meTAL!!). Enough already with the bungling of their name! ~ a fan from Philiadelpha

Saki managed very well but the interviewer is disrespectful in mis-pronouncing the band name repeatedly. Saki prompted him with her answers squeaking in the correct pronunciation of the band’s name. Mark of a good interviewer: listening to the answers your subject provides to your questions.

Pronunciation is a difficult thing. I assume he did not hear the difference between Nemophila and Nemophilia. And if you cannot hear it, you cannot pronounce it right. BTW - there are three ways to pronounce Nemophila, except that ia thingie. * ne-mo-phee-la - just straight without any accents. Slightly longer phee. That is right. * neMOO-phila - this is a kind of American way to pronounce Latin. Sounds weird. * ne-mo-PHEEE-la - exaggerating the PHEE part. I know that Finnish people do this, but also other. Close to OK.

This is what happens when an interviewer goes into an interview completely cold without any knowledge of the band. He makes the silly, although common, mistake of seeing "lia" instead of just "la" and he doesn't have the good manners to introduce Saki by name. Because of her excellent English and years of experience, I can't imagine a better person to interview than Saki about the current rock/metal scene in Japan. Such a wasted opportunity.

Tip: if you do an interview at least get the band's name right!!! I hope the host apologized after the interview. I don't get it. English alphabet is like 26 letters. Saki was even wearing band t-shirt and the dude can't even read it? Is it so complicated? Seems so. :(

"-philia" is a common suffix, and people's brains naturally spot familiar patterns even when they're not there. It's not laziness or anything sinister, just an innocent (and common) mistake. Nemophila is a flower that's native to the US though, so it's great that the band are educating people on their local botany.

@@kicorse maybe, but the interviewer keeps repeating it, even after Saki said it correctly. She was even polite enough not to correct the dude out directly. Ok that's typical Japanese mentality. While we viewers cringed. To me that's just unprofessional. Not to mention disrespectful to the band and the interview subject (doesn't even care to listen to what she said) . I'm sure that's feedback enough for the channel. To at least do BASIC research before they interview someone.

How do you pronounce the Ne in Nemo? To me, Saki is saying nee as in the English Finding Nemo and the French Jules Verne character Captain Nemo. That also seems the way that Keiko Terada pronounces the name when she introduces them at last years Naon no Yaon music festival.

Not "westerners", just english speakers 😆 They say ニモフィリア 😆 We, spanish speakers, say ネモフィラ English speakers always have troubles pronouncing other languages. 🤷

They are just lazy in reading and assumed the 'phila' is 'philia' because of some words known like 'paraphilia', 'afrophilia', etc.

I actually thought there was an "ia" at the end thus that ia pronunciation. It was only that I looked at it closely that it ended in "la" so I knew I pronounced it incorrectly. The people who mispronounced it are likely just casual listeners to the group and didn't look at the band name carefully.
