I mean there would have been less backlash if they didn't tell their fans to move on from what the first albums sounded like. Still miss this band though and was heavily disheartened when i heard the news Chester was gone.

I like how people are like “aw, see!?! They didn’t forget their fans and were trying to give them what they wanted” because they don’t realize that this video edited out when Chester said “there’s your hybrid theory, now shut the fuck up” showing that this was meant to be a “piss off” to the fans that were bitching about Heavy’s sound. Well played, Chester. Hope wherever you are now you’ve found peace.

Drums were very Meteora. Guitar and turntables screamed Hybrid Theory. Piano brought some Minutes to Midnight. Vocals were very... Chester. No matter the album, Chester was always Chester. Mike did Mike, Brad was Brad, Mr. Han was very Han. Phoenix always humble Phoenix. Together, they’re always Linkin Park. Linkin Park was never ours, it was always theirs which is why people needed to stop complaining of their change. They were born to change and live for themselves. The music may have been for us but Linkin Park belonged to them.

This video is a prime example of how they still had it even tho they didn't do that type of music anymore. Chester's vocals are by far one of the greatest vocalist of a band in his time just for how iconic and recognising it is

If I recall correctly, the whole act and especially the "give the kids what they want..." part was interpreted by some people, as mocking the fans that wasn't satisfied with the new direction of the band. They thought that it's disrespectful for the fans

I think the sad thing is OML wasn't as successful as they had thought. The hybrid sound isn't to blame for this, it's purely OML wasn't successful because it didn't sound as unique. You can't blame for the fans for that.

This was entirely to Mock hybrid theory linkin park fans and was taken almost entirely negative. He lost his fan base overnight. People started throwing things at him during concerts after this.

This was a joke response to fans hating the new album. Chester absolutely hated NU Metal later in his life and even contemplated dissolving Linkin Park and going full pop, but the response was so bad with his new material.. He saw no future. Chester and Mike hate NU Metal. Mike even said when fans ask why he doesn't play hybrid theory or early linkin park songs..."its not me."

@@thegoldenorder1240 That's unfortunate, I can certainly understand wanting to evolve, but hating your former self expression. Especially when the music then was still their genuine expression at the time, and helped them deal with their issues (namely Chester). I knew there was even a growing disdain for fans who didn't like their new sound, but I didn't know it came from hating their old sound.

Same. My tastes changed a bit and so did LP's style, so after Hybrid Theory and Meteora I didn't listen to a whole lot more by them, but those two albums got me through high school. It saddens me every time to think about it.
