It's also the Regimental March of the 78th Highlanders of Halifax, Nova Scotia's Halifax Citadel. This regiment was based at the Halifax Citadel from 1869 to 1871.

Outstanding! From one piper to another! Your ornamentation, tembre, and articulation are truly an inspiration to a studbent piper like me!

My son has done a six month crash course in Edinburgh with the army. Never played an instrument in his life. Was very emotional watching play at his pass of parade. Cabar Feidh is one of my fav tunes, thankyou...

That's a great tempo, I always find the military bands tend to play it like they are on their way to a fire. Thanks .

Yes good soloists always play down tempo...military bands always have to play too fast in order to march the troop in.

Interesting you feel military pipe bands play tunes written by military pipers, to a tempo of 120 bpm for marching, play to fast. The tunes were written for a fast tempo. Civilian bands play many marches far too slow, painfully slow in some cases, down around 90 bpm.

Neil, thanks for this recital (and you many others). Can I ask what setting are you playing? Is it the music from SG volume 2?

Ty,. A&Sh is Argylls. The Cap Badge of the Seaforths is a stag, hence the Cabar Feidh = Horns of the Deer.Camerons was St Andrew looking over a cross... But I don't know... Thats why I said in the vid

@@NeilClark-FalkirkPiping just checked, you're 100% Right. Found a copy of "The Piper's day - regimental duty tunes of the Queen's Own Highlanders" and there's quite an extensive background story at pag. 4 about the whole thing. In the book is reported how Colin Kintail, the MacKenzie Chief, saved the life of King Alexander III from a stag which had unohorsed the King and was going to eviscerate him. To commemorate the episode, the King gave to the Mackenzies the right to use the stag's head as their Arms. The tune is quite old, and has always been associated with the Sutherland Hldrs. since the MacKenzies were retainers of the Earl of Sutherland

Then of course the Camerons and the A&S were amalgamated and I got confused about the lineage of the tune.... BTW, thanks a million fo all you're doing and your effort to complete the 100 tunes task.

@@marioguidotomasone1265 Thanks. I have that book too, it's great.. I generally make my mind up what tune I'm going to play in this series maybe 10 mins before I play and then dredge my brain for whatever I can remember... sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't! I think there have been 3 amalgamations since I knew these guys as the Queens Own Highlanders... Can't really think of them any other way. They've always had some seriously good players. Maybe catch you around sometime, world of piping is very small! Glad you enjoy the vids, cheers.
