About Cameron Fleury:
Having taught drums privately for over a decade, he has decided to share his knowledge of drumming and drum education online with the world. Cameron is a professional musician from Canada but that hasn't stopped him from touring internationally with major label bands: Terrorhorse, Betraying The Martyrs, Baptized In Blood. From his home studio Cameron makes the remote drum recording process easy for metal artists and producers around the globe. Cameron looks to inspire more drummers and musicians to love playing their instruments and music.

step 3-bass drum head in high tuning well stretched step 4-maximum tension on pedal spring and intermediate beater angle to high step 5-use triggers, it's an option, or your bass drum won't sound very nice step 6-Make no mistake - it takes a lot of time to perfect, practice and don't give up

I was just asking about this. Spring tension needs to be really high, right? I've tried the technique with a mid and low spring tension and controlling the beaters is a lot more difficult. It does not bounce back fast enough. Although when I want to play with the ankles I find it harder, but that must be a matter of technique and strength.

@@CameronFleury thank you for your response! In the video the batter head appeared to be under moderately high tension. I apologize if my assumption is wrong. Either way, the sound is amazing! I have been trying to tune my bass drum to sound like that, if you have any advice, it would be highly appreciated!
@Southboundpachyderm
@Southboundpachyderm Жыл бұрын
@@enayetkhan9397 So there's 2 ways of achieving the metal "clicky" kick sound while still keeping the low end. Get a thick batter head like an emad ebony with the reso rings and tune it up till you get bounce from the beater. Keep the reso head and finger tight and use dampening and a kick port hole to adjust the tone to where you want it. OR you crank a regular double ply batter head up so that you get a lot of bounce, and then you shove pillows into the kick so that it pretty much completely covers the head from the other side. then finger tight on the reso and mic it with the mic facing up and towards the right or left "corner" of the kick about halfway into the depth of your kick drum through the port hole. Either way you basically just want no resonation. Beater heads don't matter as much as getting EQ patches for the kick and muffling it properly. Beater heads are more about what you find comfortable weight wise when you're playing. I use the speed cobra beaters with the rubber beater heads and they're also weighted in a way that you can adjust the weight to get it the way you want it. A lot of metal drummers like really light beaters and others like myself prefer the heavier ones cause you get more punch from the hit. The harder beater material you use, the less low end and more of a pitch you're gunna get out of the kick so remember that and adjust around it and it's pretty easy. the metal kick really is a lazy mans kick drum once you get used to it.

Do you know if you move 4 inches forward you execute proper heel toe. Ball toe does not compete…unless you use triggers or amp the hell out the kick. Some use compression to level them out but I’ll look for performance repetition. If the performer is consistent the engineer is unnecessary.

@@anthemgunaether2914 bro it's heel toe. You need to do more research. Most good heel toe drummers don't use the heel or ball of the foot they use the arch and foot area below toes
@joshuakelly2665
@joshuakelly2665 Жыл бұрын
@@MoshNbreakzagreed. you watch almost any heel toe metal drummer and very few actually touch the ground or the pedal with the heel. I've been told the name comes from the motion not the action. I, however, actually do tap my heels on the ground, but this is actually for timing not the actual stroke.
