Heidelberg is one of the prettiest and best-preserved towns in all of Germany, set in picture postcard perfection alongside the Neckar River, with a classic castle towering above. Filled with Old World charm, it’s almost like a fantasy version of an ancient German town, or something dreamed up by Disney -- but this is the real thing. Heidelberg’s historic center of picturesque early 18th century buildings, about one mile long and four blocks wide, is an ideal-sized pedestrian zone to explore on foot.
Heidelberg movie chapters; ;
00:01 introduction; 2:39 Marktplatz (Marketplace); 8:43 Hauptstrasse; 13:48 University of Heidelberg; 19:43 Bismarkplatz; 23:32 Castle; 44:21 Philosopher’s Walk; 54:52 Boat Ride; 1:05:05 Walk little lanes; 1:22:27 hotel and restaurants;
In this detailed movie we are taking you in depth for a complete look at Heidelberg. Of course we will take you to the most historic landmark of Heidelberg, the castle up on the hill, one of the most famous and beautiful in Europe. We will show you how to get up there and then we’ll take a walk in the garden and show you how to get down.
But first we’re going to explore the city itself, it has an amazing pedestrian zone filled with restaurants, shops, historic structures and always busy with lots of people.
We’ll go for a walk along the main street o lf town the Hauptstrasse, then we’ll explore the little side streets as well and we’ll take a stroll on the Philosophers Walk up on the hill overlooking the city with great views looking back at the town We’ll take a boat ride on the Neckar River all the way up to Necharsteinach and back, with many practical tips including a survey of the restaurants of town and we’ll visit the University of Heidelberg, the oldest in Germany.
This detailed movie combines 6 recent shorter films into one complete video. The individual films that make up this movie can also be seen individually in this playlist:

VERY gratefull to you for this. My late wife Elizabeth was born there in 1960. We met when we were 12, lost contact in 1981 when we were 21 and FINALLY reunited 22 years later in 2003. She passed from a stroke at the tender age of 51 in late 20.11. This is very well done. My ONLY request? And I know in Europe they go by the metric crap...you said "Meters" about the walk but then said "Feet" talking about the mountain hike. I'd love if you said both, to satify everyone. Again though, this meant a LOT to me, thank you SO MUCH!! Great narration btw, loved your voice.

Thank you for that poignant comment, glad it brought happy memories. Yes, I sometimes say "feet" for distance, an old habit, but meters is more universal.

Very good movie about Heidelberg. Some places you have forgotten in Heidelberg and near by Heidelberg: Dilsberg, the old funicular to Königstuhl Hill, the "Kurpfälzische Tiergarten" (Zoo), Schwetzingen Castle with garden, the complete "Heiligenberg" (saints hill) with "Stephanskloster", "Michaels Basilika", "Thingstätte", "Keltische Ringwälle" (Celtic circle rampart) and "Heidenloch, Tiefburg, Riesenstein and so on. :)

What a wonderful video giving the overview of Heidelberg. I was last there in 1988 and always wanted to return. I plan a trip there in a week as I am an expat living in Paris. Thank you, Dennis, for a great video. One question: are you a Math or Science teacher??? Your presentation reminds me of some courses way back when.
@denniscallan
@denniscallan 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Jon, thanks for the comment. I've had various academic connections, but not teaching math or science -- although I'm a big fan of science. My teaching experience was three years as a graduate student/teaching assistant in anthropology at the University of Hawaii. But more relevant "teaching" is my 30 years as a tour guide, bringing groups from Hawaii to Europe on a variety of trips I organize, where I spend a lot of time leading walking tours and talking about all these great places (while shooting the video).

The term Aprilwetter (or April weather in English) is a phrase in German that means: you can expect pretty much everything, and it can change fast. First week in April is just the beginning of spring. When you come from Southern India it will feel cold to you almost for sure. In average it is 13 degree Celsius as daily maximum and 5 degree Celsius as daily minimum.
