When my husband proposed he told me that the center diamond was from his Nana's wedding ring. She had passed away 2 years before we got together so I never met her but he adored her. My engagement ring is Nana's diamond in the middle with 2 colored diamonds on the side. So something new and old. I absolutely love that part of my ring has a story behind it.

I actually am kind of in the middle because yes I would love to get my woman a ring that has sentimental value and stuff like that especially family traditions passing down engagement rings HOWEVER... I want to get her something that is a representation of OUR love and is a reflection of her personality and her style not something just passed down , especailly if the couple didn't work out YET they pass down the ring !

I would accept an heirloom ring. I don't understand the big deal of having the nicest and newest engagement ring. I've meant people who've had the most gorgeous and biggest wedding ring and their marriage lasted for about 7 months. My dad bought my mom a ring from Walmart and they've been married for over 21 years. I personally wouldn't care how old the ring is and how long its' been in the family.

I was obsessed with the idea of a vintage ring, but he went directly against all my wishes/hints and got a brand new ring from Jared (where I had specifically told him not to go). I didn't necessarily want a ring from one of our families, but an Edwardian style one that belonged to a stranger, or something like that. It's cheaper and the brand new ring has WORSE energy in my opinion, because it represents the continuous mining in Africa, etc., to get these diamonds. But I do love it now because it's from him. Then again if I could go back and change it, I still would. haha

You shouldn't be worried about how much the ring costs, it's a symbol of your love. So I would take an heirloom ring, especially if it's something important to him and his family.

I think it's really sweet, if the ring is a family heirloom. Even if it's small and not flashy. I'm marrying the man, not the ring. And I don't think I'd care if you give me an engagement ring of a previous fiance. Engagement rings are expensive, and it's honestly a just a glorified sparkly rock. I don't think it's that deep.

I really feel that Adrienne is a lot more sentimental, down to earth and traditional than a lot of people give her credit for. Love her!

The reason why I would want my own ring is because a ring is what starts it all. I believe that it's part of getting married the guy goes and finds the perfect ring for his perfect girl and the ring represents your guys love your story so wearing someone else's ring I just couldn't call it my own and for something that represents me and my marriage.

I think it’s more important to get the ring passed down if you have a certain connection with the person your ring belonged to. I helped take care of my grandma for the last year of her life, and when she passed away my step-grandpa gave me her ring. It was a beautiful diamond with a simple gold band. My fiancé took the diamond out and put it in a new setting, and too the band and put my birthstone in it. For 5 years I wore a birthstone ring my grandma gave me before she got sick, and one day the band snapped and when missing :( getting both on my engagement day was the most beautiful and perfect moment for me.

I think heirloom rings are great for engagements. I wouldn't be wearing it for anymore than a year. I'd want a new ring as a wedding band though. It's a symbol of starting our own family, journey, legacy and all that good stuff.

My engagement ring was my great grandmother's ring. I never met her and when she passed away it was passed on to my grandfather's sister, then my grandfather and finally my grandmother. Around the time my now husband and I were talking about getting engaged someday, my grandmother said she would love it if we used that ring. So we did and I love it!

I have an heirloom ring, it's over 100 years old and I am the 3rd woman to enjoy it. I think that's cool. The ring is very beautiful, so I was very fortunate. And we have a very happy marriage. It's all about what YOU make out of it.
