love listening to classical music as background noise, it itches my brain in the right ways. imagine ur writing and being lost in thought when all of a sudden your brain tunes in a melody that captivates your attention and UGHHH, so good.

The pain of their centuries-long separation melted away in the warmth of their embrace. Ala Lani gazed into Xuanzhong's ethereal eyes, her voice trembling with emotion. "I have longed for you every day since we parted. The stars themselves have borne witness to my undying love for you." Xuanzhong tenderly brushed a lock of hair from her face, his touch as gentle as a whisper. "My dearest Ala Lani, not a single moment has passed that you haven't been in my thoughts. Our love is as eternal as the heavens above." They held each other in silence, the depth of their connection transcending the need for words. She's been preparing everyone for this for a long, long time. She won't let them stop her, not this time. Her life felt wonderful. Their morning walks, their tours of the land, their nightly talks by the fire. His smile when she sings as she brushes her hair. Her contentment when she watches him diligently train the men. Every day, she grows to love him even more. Memories hit her. Of how he took flowers from the greenhouses and gave them to me at her birth day. How he ordered her favorite sweet cakes made in secret, and how he smiled though she chastised him for being so frivolous. How the act made her cry. Of how happy he made her, then. He danced with her. He surprised her how he doesn't step on her toes anymore. He never liked dancing. How she wanted him, then. And how she wanted him to ask for her hand. How they talked about the past, in our family crypts. Talking about old kings and queens and the ones they've lost. And how they bathed in the hot springs, and he told her of his dreams, of the approval of her father and her mother. Of being their heir instead of her brother. Of how he wanted to be part their family. Of how guilty he felt having these thoughts. Then she told him of her childish dreams. Of marrying a prince. Of having a love worthy of the songs. He was her prince, in her heart. She never knew how close her dreams were before. She knows now, and she'll not want to let go. She will make his dreams come true. Still, after all of that, he continued courting her. It made her feel giddy, like a little girl again. Then a letter comes, from the king in the south. He's being pardoned. She smiled at him when she read him the letter. She held him. He wept, then. And then he asked for her hand in marriage. None were surprised, truly. The lords were summoned, and the bethrothal was announced, and a date for the wedding was agreed on. She had been married before, against her will. This is the marriage she would choose. She had seen the lords happy for her bethrothal, knowing what has happened to her in the past. Knowing that she'd be treated with outmost love and care, this time. The wedding was perfect. Though it was partly done for the benefit of the lords, it was still wonderful in my eyes. A memory hits her. Of her sweeping the cloak of protection over his shoulder, giving him her name, as he's always dreamed of. How she kissed his cheek softly as she leaned in to fasten the clasps. How he looked at her so tenderly. One flesh, one heart, one soul. They danced through the night, mostly with each other, though entertaining the guest lords and ladies as well. The feast was plentiful, full of their favorites. They fed each other, for no reason at all. They came to bed tired, but happy and giggling. In the morning, as the sun hit their shared bed, her parents' bed, they consummated their marriage. He was gentle as a knight in the songs. She didn't know it was possible to love someone more until then. She remembered sobbing because of how wonderful it was. She knew now why it was called _making love._ They made love on the bed, and under the stars, in the springs, and beneath the trees, where the gods could see them. He wanted it, he confesses to her after, about their union, about everything. He wanted it as much as he had ever wanted anything, and he felt guilty, in the memory of her brother, of her mother, of her father. A marriage of love, of children bearing her siblings' names. The truest family he's ever known. They both wanted it, and she told him so. This was their shared dream. She knows, as the years pass, and as children with his hair and his eyes-or her hair and her eyes, he says-frolick and run throughout the castle grounds, their dreams will all come true. Their love will hold, and with time growing ever stronger, as if built stone by stone. A love worthy of the songs.
