Take me back... please... I am now 76 ans her music was just so new and meaningful when i was 15.)anmd she was) . It still is. ....Such a natural powerfull voice. That was when music was about enjoing life and now its about how you can be bigger that some other usless cretin.

And I suppose there hasn't been any decent music written since you were 21, that sort of attitude makes me avoid people your ages, how arrogant, by the way, I'm 67 and the best music hasn't been written yet, thinking anything other than that just demeans younger generations. I love Helen Shapiro, I love lots of old music, but it isn't the be all and end all.

Lovely I'd just met my husband I was 16 and he was 17 we holidayed in Wales with his family my hubby took me to see Helen Shapiro at a theatre in Prestatyn..boy could she belt it out everyone up dancing in Isles think there was supporting group we had a wonderful time went on to be married for 50yrs remember it like was yesterday

It's been playing over and over again in my head too. It sounds better today than it did back then (a better audio system). Your maths is a little bit off though. If you were 71 in 2021 you would have been born in 1950, so you would have been 11 in 1961 when this was a hit.

I was a teenage Disk Jockey at a local Teen Club in New Brunswick Canada when I first heard Helen in 1963. She became a life long favourite. Her hits are still available on CD and are worth every penny. BTW I am 75 now and she still touches me.

Even now in 2021 it would be difficult in a modern state of the art studio with electronic mixing, autotune etc to replicate this. What a stunning ,luxurious smooth fabulous voice, there really is a lot of talent out there today, but I can,t honestly think of anyone that comes close to Helen Shapiro,s perfect voice! Timeless!

I was younger than Helen, but she inspired me to be a singer, I won a talent contest with one of her songs, and went on to be professional for 20 years.Never made the big time, but toured the world with big stars of the day.Happy memories!

@@Qsv7RQ3ovB Thank you, you have to chase your dreams, I came from a large family, money was very tight, but that just urged me on.I joined a group and after winning opportunity knocks twice, we turned professional and had a recording contract.Our first single was recorded at Abbey Road, and we were told the Beatles were recording in another studio ,I hoped for a glimpse, but no such luck!We spent the next six summers first class entertaining on cruise ships, we spent three months touring South Africa with Max Bygraves, and in between worked with all the top stars of the day, really more than than I had dreamed of.We never made it to the top but I had a great time not getting there.One of our singles is on utube, The Freelanders, Turn of the Century.💙💚💙

Unfortunately US promoters were falling over each other to book British beat groups, many of which disappeared without trace. Having topped the bill in the UK at 15 with the Beatles as a support act, essentially she became a has-been before she was out of her teens.

Love Helen Shapiro. She was such a huge star back in the early 60's. When The Beatles first came out they went on tour with her, but she was the star of the show and The Beatles were one of her support acts.

Never remembered this until I heard it on a rerun of Call the Midwife. Waiting for this young singer to come on Sunday TV. I was about 9 years old but fell in love instantly. Remember when songs went straight to number one and the next week they were gone. This song captures those times perfectly.

From memory her "Please don't treat me like a child" video on YT shows her with her schoolmates in Bethnal Green. This was her first record made when she was 14. I think they let her leave school about three months early to promote her singing career. Well worth watching if you have not done so already that is.
