Can’t wait to get my hands on the final released version. I was lucky enough to test one of the later stage prototype versions. Such an amazing grip and my favorite part is that I have a thumb grip and can still run around with my flash attached. Fantastic attention to detail and design. Always great to have choices and the Leica community loves their add ons. My grips end up left at home on M, SL and S bodies to lighten the weight in hand, combined with some gym work to keep arms and hands strong to carry a camera all day. Good luck with the project, I too love to see beautifully, well thought out Leica gear and accessories.

I'm also really interested in the product - but need to be assured its fully compatible with the RRS equivalent , as the tolerance on the dovetail slide into any of the RRS heads seems to be unique.. I have several Arca type "L" brackets but none fit as well as the native RRS versions onto the large ball head !!...
@EdwardPalisoc29 күн бұрын
We certainly can validate that to assure you; a quick test to assuage any concern you’d have would be if you have a Peak Design capture clip - if the adapter plate dovetail profile works, then the short answer will be in the affirmative. This also applies if you have a Peak Design Travel Tripod and find the plates interchange.
@john3Lee29 күн бұрын
@@EdwardPalisoc The large RRS ball head relies on a cam action for its clamp,.. The size of the dovetail is critical to create a smooth locking mechanism. most of the other arca types rely on just a screw clamp, which can clamp anywhere, and sizing is not so critical. I hope this helps you in the development of this excellent sounding product.
@EdwardPalisoc29 күн бұрын
@@john3LeeI am arranging to get an RSS clamp plate to test, but I can share this with you; from what information that is publicly available the RSS universal plate calls out the plate width to be 38.1mm. The He3 baseplate width is 38.8mm, which was purposeful to address what I considered a looseness between the OEM Peak Design capture clip adapter plate that comes with the clip, and the clip itself. I would imagine the RRS clamp would not have a functional precision so tight that it would not accommodate a sub 1mm difference, but I hope to be absolutely sure in short order.

I have received a RRS BR-60-II clamp, and it works beautifully with it, so much I am putting the clamp on my monopod. Slides smoothly along within the dovetail groove, and clamps firmly without any adjustment.

I'd love to see a smoother transition to the thumb grip. Only part of the design I can see that isn't very "Leica."
@EdwardPalisoc29 күн бұрын
I understand your point; note that the thumb grip profile was driven by function, tactile feel, and ability to smoothly access the controls with the thumb, how the thumb moves and sweeps while holding the camera in use vs just holding it, etc. One consideration is that the thumb grip is a modular component that can be removed, replaced, reconsidered without requiring the rest of the handgrip to be affected. Function over compromise to adhere to an aesthetic is always an interesting discourse. Certainly one worthy of a dialogue with Carlo Scarpa and Mies van der Rohe.
@morgan-sutherland29 күн бұрын
@@EdwardPalisoc I hear you, and a difficult balance to strike when Leica's design language is decidedly not "ergonomic" in the blobby Canon sense at the expense of comfort, but it looks possible to "flatten" or round out the fillets where the thumb rest intersects with its support without affecting access to the dials or creating uncomfortable spots for the thumb. I could be wrong, but I'd encourage you to mess around with a few ideas in that area and see if a more beautiful balance can be struck. The other area of concern I'd have is with the finger loop thing. After using a Peak Design micro clutch, I'm all about the concept, but I could imagine that being either uselessly too big or too small-or in the wrong place-depending on hand-size. I have large hands and my micro-clutch ends up needing to be positioned quite a ways forward of the hand grip. The freely-rotating strap anchor on the Peak Design design is genius and, I think, necessary. I don't have a good suggestion for you given other design choices you made, though. On the whole, this looks fantastic though-excited to see you raising the bar!
@EdwardPalisoc29 күн бұрын
