As Squad leader I think these are pretty important: -not dying -placing outposts and garries -Inter-Squad communication -talk to Squad and see if they have tactical suggestions on what you should do next, it's a team effort that wins -relaying messages from other Squad leaders -**CHECKING MAP AND MAKING NOTES ON MAP FOR YOUR SQUAD** -Have a good sense of game flow -know when to push or defend (often nobody goes into defense so if your Squad can defend the last objective, you will get a lot of action and save the game) -also pretty important to not be an ordering asshole, at the end of the day it's just a game so take it easy and enjoy the match

I have a question. Is there Radio Communication in the Squad like in the Game „Squad“ or do you have to stay near your buddys to talk to them. Basically is there only proximity chat or radio chat too?
@SoulStormZero
@SoulStormZero 2 жыл бұрын
@@Vincent_2704 There are different kinds of chat channels, proximity, only for all team mates nearby, squad chat, only for your squad, and command chat for squad leaders and the commander. In this game it is key that the right information is shared with the other squads, this through copying marks on the map as SL or commander, or using the different com channels. None of this is enforced in anyway, but key to winning games, if the team is full with clueless players or players that are not interested in any tactical part of the game, none of this happens, and often the team is overrun before the match is over. if a match only lasted 10 minutes, one side most likely largely ignored the tactical aspects of this game. What most (new) players do is just press W and run towards the next point in a straight line without pinging or communicating. Teams like that can get easily flanked and absolutely wrecked from all sides, before getting blitzed point after point until its 0-5 and match is over.

Don't sleep on the mindset of "obscure your silhouette and outline" to be harder to see. Visual cover can be just as effective as hard cover when used right. Pay attention to the slope of where you are. Will your silhouette break the horizon line when you stand up? If so, you'll look like a bottle on a fence line asking to be plinked. Put hedgerows at your back if you can't hide on the other side of them. If you're Germans, your camo goes well with rocks and dirt, if you're Americans you'll blend best in foliage. When in doubt in forest areas, hold and hide, wait until the other person makes a move first. It's nearly impossible to see someone in this game who is hiding their outline and motionless.

This is something they teach you in the army and is something I think alot about when playing this game. Moving cover to cover, exposing as little as possible, avoiding crossfire against friendlies and much more. Never have I used my military knowledge in a practical way on a game like this before!
@oldkingcrow777

@@-Arv another thing a veteran friend taught me that stuck with me and applies in any game/hunt etc is to scan from right to left. I'm guessing it would be opposite for the Japanese hehe but it's because our brains are so trained for left to right from reading that it's natural to "blur" things. When going right to left things stick out much more clearly. This game is so satisfying and often stressful. Today I had one of my all time best/favorite shots on Hill 400. I killed one guy with the sniper, just decide to stay scoped and scan, and in like a 2 Sq inch window thorigj the trees I see the enemy sniper checking his scope, and as soon as he leveled it to see I pegged him in the face. So frigging satisfying. Gave me a Vietnam story feeling

I had a situation where I merced two or three guys in my first game while in this forest. I was in prone and next to a downed tree. The enemy took out an ally near me trying to push toward a destroyed cabin, I noticed one guy move and shot him, and saw another guy try to push and did the same to him before he could reach cover. Another guy managed to get behind a tree to figure out where I was, I didn't see him again. I think a teammate got him. I moved up next to the tree and took out another guy moving between trees, and then I pushed up to the cabin a minute or two after. I think I reached a bow in their line because I wound up getting shot in the back, or maybe it was a teammate.

Agreed, it is better to focus on not dying than getting kills. 50% of the game is just buying time for your team. If you can slow down an enemy squad for like 5 minutes even without managing to kill them, you've bought your team alot of breathing room.

For the newer players: Don't be afraid to take a roll, but do be upfront with your lack of knowledge. saying " I'll go anti tank but have no clue what I'm doing" will get you more tips, kinder instructions, and more level heads. Playing Defense is also HUGE, Games may be won with Offense but they are all lost without Defense. Even if it's just sitting in that cap circle and guarding the Garrison until your team can remove their head from their.... any ways. It's also some of the most fun you can have, one minute nothing is happening and the next you and your squad/buddies are fighting the entire enemy team. But seriously, ask questions, ask for help, there are plenty of us Old Hats who would love to guide you through this game. Sincerely, lv.215 1400 hours.

Being upfront is the best thing. Everytime I am SL or Command and someone says "this is my first time" they get my full attention all the time. I think the community is great when you just make this clear and you want to understand the game. Sometimes we take some newbs into our squat and teach them with five other guys. So they can do every mistake without being blamed as it's our take to help the guy or girl out.

Itd like to add to note on this is that, Not only does defence pay dividends for winning, it can sometimes be intense as all hell, and i know this as me and the guys and gals i play with tend to end up being the only defending squad and we have held up 3 different squads with just our 6 more than once allowing a denial of total loss or even allowing our team to put enough weight into winning the round.

Yea I can agree lol...my squad earlier today was the only damn squad trying to defend a heavily attacked position, literally nobody else was helping after we had the squad leader numerous times ask for assistance...it is extremely annoying, as a commander they should be tactically knowledgeable enough to task a squad or two with defending based on how many points you hold and how effective your side is against the enemies skill wise...Also, there is no point in having a commander when numerous people don't listen and just wander off to do their own thing. That is how I got into SL. And, I had some of the best "teachers" in game to be had. I was one of those thrust into the position. Now with over 600 hours playing I continue to work on it and now beginning the Command role. Yep! The help is out there! And, yeah there are the "Karens" out there also... every game have them around. The nice thing about SL role is you can bounce them out!

Another thing RE: sounds, it pays to memorise the sounds of your weapons. It can be a very good indicator of whether there are enemies near. You don't have much to go on with footsteps if the enemy you're looking for is flat on his belly in a cozy spot, but if you can recognise the sound his weapon is making you can sort of guess a direction and range. Also, like @RedcoatViking says, running around like a headless chicken isn't going to do you any favours, but be mindful as well that if you can see the enemy, they can probably also see you. And the fact you're crouched behind a wall doesn't mean that *all* of you is crouched behind that wall. I've been headshotted more than once while thinking I was safely crouched behind cover.

Just to add about the capture zones, that I have recently learnt. In warfare mode (the most common game type), you have to be in 4 squares surrounding and the strongpoint itself, to start capping, as said in the vid. Whereas in offensive mode, you have to be inside the strongpoint itself, to contribute to the cap race.
@RedcoatVikingYT

@RedcoatVikingYT
@RedcoatVikingYT 2 жыл бұрын
@@Slippy82 Yeah, people being inside the circle don't make it cap faster (it's always 2 minutes), but each person within the circle gets a small bonus to their 'cap weight', so basically 1 guy inside the circle is worth more than 1 guy outside the circle. The problem with being inside the circle is usually it results in a quick death, which makes the extra capture strength redundant because you're dead lol.

Biggest thing for me after playing my first match is knowing I can contribute to the capture sector without being in the actual capture zone. This would've reduced my deaths in my first game as I would get picked as soon as I made any motion outside of cover. Knowing this, I can be in a better square or take my time checking angles and treelines without feeling the need to push to put another body on the objective. I'll also be less subject to artillery, vehicles, and machine guns focusing on the objective.

Recently had a round where more than half of my team could use this tutorial. Three dire mistakes were commited by them. 1. They bodywaved the capture point. No flanking. No strategy. Just one collumn of attack wave over and over again from one direction. Right into the well established defense and making the enemy artillery having a field day on them. Not even the commander's airhead helped them out. Barely anyone took the chance to spawn behind the point. 2. Nobody defended. There was like one squad loitering on the point we needed to defend and even they were not a full squad. The rest of the team was busy commiting to Mistake 1. 3. Ignoring garrisons. In their fever to throw themselves at the enemy the entire team forgot garrisons. A squad or two slammed down a terriblly placed garrison where they were running into the enemy defense like cattle but that was all. Even when the defense garrisons got removed, nobody tried to help us out and we couldn't spawn anywhere near the point we were meant to defend. The rare occasions where I left a losing game cause I knew there will be not an inch of fun to be had in that team.

It's important to note that I did not want to play Squad Leader at level 3. However, the design of the game often forces new players to take on the role. You can't play the game without joining a squad, and often there are no open squads available (and if there aren't all full the rest are locked). You then have servers with restrictions on the SL role, including the requirement of having an SL in order to keep the squad, and level requirements, and it just becomes this huge fucking mess where no one wants to be SL or learn it because they cannot jump through every single hoop the game/server owners demand. Combined with little tutorials, on top of an ill-explained supply system, and you have a community that is afraid/discouraged to lead.

Flanking is a problem. There is no flank without a front do not encourage it. Thats how that blue zone attack garrisons get destroyed. That flank garrison will lock up. If one squads flanking do not go with them. The flanks there to shoot enemies at a different angle and distract them. The push to cap will half to come from the front. Map control is good for comp games but not when herding newbies. Stay in the cap zones.

Another thing people get wrong imo is supplies. They think that the only way to get supplies for garrisons is through a supply drop even though you can roll scroll your support, you can bring a truck and so on. Supply drops gives the enemy the supply drop position which is very stupid to drop on the front line aka where the enemies are and can see it. I usually use supply drops behind the front line for example if I want to build a garrison in the next locked sector so we can fall back in case we lose and to drop on the next point so the supplies are there when we take the point. There are so many more things with supplies most people get wrong with but please, don’t use supply drops unless you have to. If you get killed when you drive the supply truck and that you have a squad that doesn’t want to drop supply boxes.

When I first played Hell Let Loose, as I played Enlisted before I had a genral concept of how to combat but I had not rhe slightest clue how to control areas. 🤣so my self teaching experiment was to join a squad on my own and play each role to see what their differences were. I basically always took a quiet route into the enemies territory and came back frm behind to attack outposts which in reality shouldn't have qorked as well as it did. I was hard to apot because I alwasy kept a distance where I could be effective but also undetectable or able to flee if i needed to. basically just going where the enemies were more interested in going and just clearing it out was my goal. As long as you know what kind of game your playing even new players can be a big help. 🤣everything else I learned in this video today lol

If you're on a map with terrible cover, playing with a decent squad try "bounding" basically 2 or 3 guys open fire on the enemy, the guys not shooting move up hit the dirt after 6 or so seconds and then they suppress. The original guys shooting then move up and you just repeat this till you cross the open area you can't avoid. (Leap frog kinda) Obviously this is for taking fire as you cross that field, if you're not taking fire there's other ways you can cross rather than just running hoping not to die.

the SL position should be reserved for level 25-50 or something, the amount of players who start an infantry squad and either abandon the SL role instantly or do a terrible job in general will only rise.... it doesn't help that starting a squad puts you as SL, so you are forced to play SL, abandon the position once you join, or you wait around for 2 minutes for people to make squads
@RedcoatVikingYT
@RedcoatVikingYT 2 жыл бұрын
True, but if it didn't force you into the SL position, there'd be loads more squads with no SL at all, and just rando's running around with smg's :P The key is finding a good group of friends to play it with regularly, and thankfully meeting people in HLL is really easy since you can add people on steam direction from the scoreboard

Mistake 6: Not redeploying. Value your life, sure, however you still need to redeploy as the Butler ebs and flows. If the enemy is capturing the one behind the one you are faster than you, then redeploy and stop them. Redeploying is NOT failing, it's playing the game correctly. If your squad leader asks you too, DO IT! Your not helping waiting till you die, just redeploy and help your squad.

To be honest I wish veterans were more willing to have newcomers to their squads. I actually had to start making squads myself because the other squads are all locked and the SLs all reject you if you request to join it. Essentially locking new players out of their team. Very unwelcoming. Gotta learn the game alone and the hard way. This was my experience at least in the servers I played. Veteran SLs who are welcoming are pretty rare on this update post free weekend.

Do you hate talking to people or does the idea of talking to strangers make you nervous? There's a big difference, and if it's the latter then I can assure you Hell Let Loose has one of the friendliest communities in gaming. There's very few games out there where you can join a public match, join a random squad and instantly start talking and joking with them while trudging your way through the mud towards the front line :) Besides unless you're planning on squad leading or commanding the team, the most important part isn't your willingness to talk, it's more about listening and following simple instructions. Lots of people are fairly quiet, but as long as they play their role and go where they need to go when the squad lead needs them there's no issue at all. Try it :)

When I started playing this game (around level 3 / 4) I had a squad where no one wanted to hop in as SL. So I did the job, the game forced me into it. I just asked what they needed from me, and we had a pritty good run. Same with the command job. We kept loosing because of a lack of commander, so I took the job again and the SL told me what to do. You can take the job as low level, you just gotta listen to experienced players. Follow their advice.

i would say tho something i must do a bit of arguing with here is the not flanking enough, this is usually atleast in my experience a all in or out thing, if theres a flanking garrison nearly the entire team tends to go there, which just turns it into the frontline again, what we need is pincers instead of just simple flanks, where multiple squads come in from multiple angles creating kill zones against their enemys.

I get it ok it's kinda representing "real war" but even playing a carefully, sneakily and dodging from cover the cover the best I could, I just felt there was a few guys with scoped rifles sitting as far away from capture points as the could farming kills, as PTFO means very little when compared to a personal K/D ratio.

I have a strong feeling you were much less stealthy than you think :P It's a learning curve, but there's only max 2 guys looking at you with scopes due to the built-in sniper limit, and they're operating behind your lines usually, so the chances are you were being taken out from 1-200m by a regular old hard-sighted rifle!

An hour is no time at all. My first hour was a nightmare. I had no clue and got shot from many directions without seeing anyone. BUT join a communicating squad and stick with them so you all ping out enemies and you then start to get familiar with the map slowly and by working together you will begin to see the enemy. Hmm, depends what you mean by pinging a garrison I guess. If you're literally just pinging it, then only your squad mates can see it, so no one else will know it exists. If by ping you mean place a marker on the map, do you also tell them what it is and where it is in command chat? If you just mark something most people will ignore it as it may not be relevant or accurate. I don't experience these issues more than once in a blue moon so there must be more to the story :P
