One of the things I like the most in HLL is that if you have a nice, friendly and communicating squad and you are happy with how things go, you can even lose the game but end it with a good feeling of 'we worked together well, did our best and had fun' (from my experience especially while defending as the only squad who 'sacrifices' themselves to defend). Not often a FPS game can give you such good feelings while losing.

I was the same GG. I bought HLL about a year ago tried it without really understanding how it was different - shelfed it until Christmas. Over the vacation I binged HLL tutorials and started playing again. Just hit 500 hours and it's by far my favorite game

Thanks Gouda for this video! Communication is number one in this game. As a veteran in this game, I encourage new players to talk as much as possible. Even just some fun chitchat, just to a flow of communication going. And to new players, defense is as critical (if not more) as offense. This is not COD or BFx! Defense matters!! Also, don't be afraid of squad lead! Most vets will help you and encourage you through the match.

I recently joined HLL and was instantly surprised by the communication between people. As a new player, the community was very helpful and welcoming too. Can't believe I never played it sooner, great game.

Had a similar experience, I came from Vietnam Rising Storm 2 so I was used to a much faster paced experience. When I started HLL I got discouraged because I could go entire matches without ever seeing an enemy…then I learned to just stick with my squad and use my mic, even if I didn’t know what I was saying. As soon as I did that I was finding enemies left right and center and actually playing the game!

Dont be afraid to play squad leader. I started out as a squad leader in my first game with some buddies and was tank commander for a bit. If you are communicative with your team and help them understand you just started but your willing to do your part and learn then you can usually trust your squad, fellow squad leaders and even the commander to teach you and walk you throught it. It also usually gives you access to a smg without promoting a more aggressive playstyle so it allows you to get a better feel for the gunplay. Once again just make sure you communicate and listen and youll pick up leadership positions pretty quickly

I hated the game the first few times. And then it finally clicked after I got told to just... Slow down. Clocked level 200 yesterday

For some reason(at the time of writing this) I’m like level 15 but a few friends I made on here basically demand I’m the SL because for some reason I take one look at an area and automatically find a good spot for the outpost and sometimes I even manage to get a garri up? I’m still trying to remind myself this game is more like a realistic mil-sim than cod so I have to play it differently and it’s really helped watching videos like this because it’s helped me go from literally getting 2-3 kills a game and dying 30+ times to breaking even with the same amount of deaths but I have equal kills.

Just started and I love it, no way in hell would I stop. Love the open maps and the realistic one hitter quitter and not dumping 15 rounds into somebody without killing them.

Buddy of mine got me to get this game today and wow…it’s so good, and yes you die a lot when first starting out, but the learning curve is actually enjoyable to me and getting kills is very satisfying , plus the proximity chat is gold lol

Now that makes perfect sense. Without communication and tactics, you're just playing the same old multi-player shoot fest. However, every match I've played so far (only 8), most people are rifleman and everyone scatters. Haven't once seen a squad stay together. Maybe one game mode tends to draw in the tactical players? I've been doing the random maps and modes.

3 biggest tips : 1 talk/play as 1 squad , 2 do your job (build notes/walls etc ,garrisons drop supply's or heal people depending on your role) 3 PLAY SLOWER , 1 bullet is enough to kill so dont walk like a headless chicken like you said yourself ,but looks after every corner and watch your map to see were bleu berries are standing still shooting/dying Enjoy !

Just started today and out of 4 games only in the first did the SL advise me on what was going on..... I still don't have a clue on where to spawn and what objectives to achieve, very step learning curve and yes I could just walk away with the frustration.

I can't emphasize enough how much my understanding of the game improved from playing as SL. I wouldn't recommend playing SL on like...your first 5 hours in the game but once you understand the difference between an outpost and a garrison I would highly recommend stepping up as SL as a learning tool.

I love this game because of the slower pace. I always hated the fast paced cod type games

I say that the first 100 hours in HLL are a steep STEEP learning curve .. if you are comming from BF or COD you have to unlearn so much before you are ready for HLL and I am thankfull for that learning curve becorse it makes ALOT of people drop the game since "its just not for them".. ^^ getting kills are not the main goal and I can have matches where I play for 90 min with 5- 10 kills but made a huge inpact in the game with my squad, building nodes, as a medic, defending points .. HLL are not just kill, get kill ..respawn and repeat.. if this is what you seek go play COD

What’s tough for me Is that I have been starting in the middle Of the game. It’s hard to join a group when they’re already in the action. A lot of people, as soon as they spawn go off on their own and play like COD. I usually get killed on the way to all the real action. I haven’t seen too much teamwork unless it’s in a tank crew. Then again it’s not a good idea to be a lone tanker. You need infantry to watch your back for engineers

Just got the game on Wednesday. Been playing every chance I get. I’ve played commander a hand full of times and was straight up honest about it. The squad leaders were very helpful and them because they wanted to win, it was in everyone’s best interest to work through me being a noob. Like you said, a bare minimum commander is better than no commander, although you said squad leader. That being said, squad leader intimidated me the most. Because you are right there in the thick of it all. Commander I hung back, drove supply’s, set up garrisons, and supported the mission via supply drops, bombing runs, and deploying tanks. As a squad leader you have to do much more in my opinion and I don’t want to let my men, and commander down. Also, I recognize that accent anywhere, plus Gouda gives it away. My mom still isn’t a US citizen because she doesn’t want to give up her Dutch citizenship, she was from The Hague and my Oma still lives there

I love HLL but the amount of times some rando creates a squad and hogs the Squad Leader position and has no comms at all is extremely frustrating.

Eversince I joined a clan, the reward of playing increased immensely. Having 20+ people communicating and working on the same game plan is surreal!

1st time i played i was excited then disappointed. Gave it a break for a couple of days. Hopped back on and now all i play is this game. This game 100x better than any first person shooter game hands down

I started playing a few weeks ago, sadly on ps5 finding a communicating squad with a leader is like finding unicorn shite, It's virtually impossible. add to that when someone does talk it usually comes out as garbled nonsense on the PS5 controller.

Why so many trolls in this game? Muted a guy for being annoying af, he found out, and started team killing the entire squad. Another guy I kindly notified him that his mic was echoing. He did not take it well and started team killing. We got him kicked lol. Be a team player guys not a complete a hole, it’s unnecessary!

Literally just spawn near objectives and go from there. Always gonna be people attacking your position and enemies will always be on eneny position. Layer in squad tean work and the games a dream. (I dont do squad shit i just lone wolf it but still see lot of action)

It would help if the community wasn't the most toxic on the internet. I can't count on my two hands how many times I've been tk'ed over a supply truck that was meant for my squad.

Playing since day one. the best tip that I can give is spread the fuck out and move slow.

This would be great if I could stay in a game longer than 15 mins without getting the “connection to server lost” stupid fucking developers since day 1, and haven’t fixed it.

One coordinated squad can win a map. I’ve had some great experiences flanking and capturing/destroying crucial positions. Like suffering with your squad for 10 minutes to hit a 16 kill garrison clearing satchel on the Hill 400 bunker. Or the time my squad built an AT gun battery on the cliff of Remagen, we used 2000 munitions. We were laughing so hard when SL got chewd out for us using all the munitions.

The GAME SUCKS and anyone who disagrees are gaslighting themselves because they can't deal with buyers remorse. Being an irl military man myself I get the appeal for a realistic ww2 shooter like this. However everything about the game frustrates me to no end. Firstly you can't skip any of the intro logos when you boot up the game, then you have to connect to the service, then you have to "enlist" and wait for the servers to load, then you select a server with low ping and decent amount of players, then you wait for 20 min in queue because there are 3 people in front of you and finally when you do get in, the teams arent even full so you're sitting there wondering why the fuck there was a queue!? The game is currently ongoing so a bunch of people certainly didn't just log off after the round ended. Then after you picked a team, then a squad, then you can't pick the role you want to play because someone is already playing that and the other squads are full, so you pick something you don't want, then you select an OP or a garrison to spawn at only to wait an additional 20+seconds and finally after all this BS you spawn in and BOOM! instant artillery or grenade or camping machine gunner kills you and everyone else that just spawned there! NO GAME should take 30 - 40 min plus a BS death just to start! This is how almost every single game has started for me and I have waisted 36 hours of my life really trying to get into and enjoy this game. I just can't because a third of the time I've wasted was spent booting up and waiting in queue! Everything from just starting the game is already putting me in a bad mood. BAD GAME! Skim the fucking fat and let me join quickly without any of this hazzle! Make the infantry squads a more realistic size 10 and double the amount of available roles in them and add a corporal role to them, who can work with squad lead and also place OPs so a totalt of 2 per squad. Make the pings visible for others around you, not just your squad. Make the friendly blue cirkle GO AWAY when they're downed, I don't need that shit blocking my view of whoever just shot them. Only the medic needs to see that when they're downed! Give me the abilty to just take ammo from the riflemen! I've only ever seen one person put down the box that allows me to rearm. Boost the proxy volume! Yes I have a mic and asking for ammo doesn't fucking help. Half the time I can't even hear what people are saying, so I'm assuming they can't hear me either. In fact I know they can't hear me because I was yelling at another squad in proxy and close to me, that they shouldn't go a specific way because the enemy was shelling that area. Every single one of those deaf fucks died shortly after and no I didn't use the squad channel. It's really difficult to be patient in a game that already tests your patience before you even start to play. Actually playing isn't the main issue for me, I can play it well and get kills. My fuse is just very short after spending all this time just to play. So whenever some random BS get's me killed, in any other game I'd be annoyed but cool with it and can keep going. In this game however... I can't forgive the minor BS deaths, weird mechanics, bugs or glitches because I'm already in the orange zone when I finally get in! BAD GAME!

complexity? How many cheek welds have you actually had to a real M-1 garand? these games do very little to actually emcompass any reality of trench warfare or in theatre campaigns. ITs pixel projectiles on an internet connection, with ballistic co-efficient skullduggery .....maybe those addictted to the internet feel this is "realistic" its not, Its a chit show. Id be willing to bet 90% of the people playing this game couldnt even make it 2 miles rucking it with just the rifles and ammo required!

i stopped playing because shooting mechanics are meh. i played for years red orchestra, darkest hour, project reality and im very familiar with all mechanics but the fighting is just not fun.
