This scene, when all soldiers gently approach the little Hellboy not as a demon but as a newborn, almost like they are accepting and protecting him, always warms my heart.

I really like how the first film is more of a fantasy horror while The Golden Army is more of a pure fairytale fantasy. Both films have their own distinct identity.

I’d like to think the kind of war they were fighting had opened their hearts, and saw no difference to what could have done been done to hell boy by the Nazi; men that have been slaughtering, imprisoning and experimenting on innocent children. The new Hellboy missed the whole point of the comics, these movies however got it damn near perfect, gotta love Del Toro's imagination which really worked well with Mike Mignola's original vision!!!...

I remember a film critic I used to follow who called Guillermo del Toro one-half fanboy at heart and one-half dark poet (he said personally he preferred the latter)...and that literally is how I see the films of Guillermo del Toro, and I absolutely love his work.

This version perfectly embodies why 2004 was a better adaptation than 2019. This made Hellboy and Brom characters and made their meeting an actual scene. 2019 completely glazed over the origin story and made it a footnote .

Combination of history, comedy, military, sci-fi, and also drama (such a nice introduction story to Hellboy).. is what makes this film special. They don't make this kind of film anymore today.

Two thing I'm sad we never got in this cut off trilogy from the comics: 1. The revelation Hellboy is technically a cambion and his human mother is a descendant of Mordred. 2. When he first falls in love with pancakes and hell's reaction to it.

@@danielbilodeau9045 One thing I love about that comic in particular is that since he was just a little boy, he didn’t want to try pancakes, and instead called for noodles, but the general who served him the pancakes told him no, he couldn’t have noodles for breakfast. If that’s not what most children are like, I don’t know what is.

Time really flies! I watched this when I was 18, the second one when I almost graduated Uni. This movie really shows how parent/s can shape a child to become a good person or bad.

I've always loved how fast the mood among the soldiers shifts from "AH! A DEMON!" to "Awww! A baby boy! Let's raise him as our own!" The power of cute babies transcends dimensions.

There is something in our brain that tics when we see something round-ish. Babies are round and hence, cute. They are noisy, yes. But, they are pure. They put things in a perspective where you just find out that things are simpler than they really are and you shouldn't take them that seriously.

Really says fate was on Hell-Boy’s side when they realized it wasn’t a demon needing to be killed but a scared orphaned kid needing a home and is immediately taken in to a loving home.

I had no idea who Hellboy was when I watched the first one… but it didn’t matter. I think that’s part of the reason it shined. Even if you had no idea who Hellboy was, they were still very well written and very entertaining to watch. Ron Perlman was born to play this character😝. The reboot was a dumpster fire.

A comment late to the party but nevertheless - 0:59 "do you really, really believe in hell?" the shivering voice of that soldier after everything he just witnessed, the sculptures, the music and Rasputin's backstory make it a trully terrifing scene
