Which is the stronger narrative choice? That Hellboy's father was negligent and a poor parent, or that he was loving and a constant light in Hellboy's life making his death at the hands of evil all the more heartbreaking? Yeah, not much of a contest.

I mean, both can work. Loving father makes his death weigh more in the emotional sense, asshole father can create a greater tension about Hellboy's feelings towards humanity. I could see many scenarios where this could be a great idea and work fenomenally, but it has to be done right and carefully. Needless to say it wasn't the case here, but it doesn't mean it couldn't work.

I felt more of a connection with Ron Pearlmans hellboy. I didnt feel shit for this one. It was just entertaining but it didnt mean anything to me.

Eventually the part had to be passed onto a successor since Perlman isn’t as young as he used to be eg wolverine/hugh jackman in xmen 1 vs Logan, though regardless of my point it has to be said that the original actor will forever be regarded as actor prime due to the blatant mastery of their role

I'm about to make you so sad: Rumor had it that a third one was in the works, years ago, but they couldn't get the full cast back together, everyone was busy doing something else. Del Toro opted to wait and in the meantime, he got to storyboarding. It was supposed to be that Liz had twins, we know that, but one would be evil and the other good. The evil one would try to bring about the apocalypse and there would be just a massive family feud. Perhaps ending in Hellboy finally taking over the world. It would have been an awesome movie for sure, but the studio didn't like the idea and they ditched it because they claimed the second Hellboy didn't do well (which it really depends on who you ask). I didn't mind them rebooting, although I wished we got that trilogy, what I minded was that there was nothing cohesive about the reboot. The story felt very fragmented, not everything really matched together. And of course, some things were forced.

I liked Ron Pearlman more as Hellboy than this guys performance I mean the way they tried to make this a comedy and a horror film at the same time just didn’t work, the last 2 films were serious with little bits of humor in it which is why it worked well and had a good plot

@@gabrielawada6160 Guillermo Del Toro used practical effect highly and less of CGI , the visual props and make up is on point with realism . That's why when you look at David Harbor Hellboy , he looked like people doesn't know how to use practical effect . -Stone Hand/Sound Design -Bad facial emotion -Overused the synthetic skin in chin area and forehead -Skin didn't match Coupled with bad story telling and reverse engineer lore (Dr. Broom) , this Hellboy reboot goes down the drain . I would've loved if David Harbour's Hellboy continued the story with HB3 having twins .

The always kinda end up telling me to obey every Fandoms' or Fanbases' rules that tell me I can't watch something new. Believe it or not, Fandoms or Fanbases can be very strict.

There was just too much going on. If they had managed to focus on just one plot line they might have been able to make a trilogy out of this version. I couldn’t even keep track the first time round

After doing doing some research on Hellboy, I found something about Hellboy's stone arm (the Right Hand of Doom): While it doesn't need to be attached in order to be used, if it remains attached to Hellboy when he dies, it will be rendered powerless and unable to unleash the Ogdru Jahad from their imprisonment. So perhaps Hellboy's true destiny is not to use the Right Hand of Doom at all, but to ensure that it can never be used.

as a german its insane to me how they pronounced "verhaften". he pronounced it "veerhoftun" when its more pronounced like "furhufftin". how can such a big production not get this right? also they translated it to "kill him" when in reality "verhaften" means to arrest someone.

I think why the Original movies of Hell boy where so much more liked was the pacing. The original Hellboy , ALWAYS had Hell Boy with a supporting character to kinda interact with. Not to mention long dialog from characters in the original movie where kept short and sweet, or kept short from Hell Boy Interrupting them not caring. "Ya ya shhhh. I get it." Another point is the Original Hell boy make team. Made him very expressive, making him feel more human, and emotional. Compared this this one where he always has the same face.

One of this movie's flaws (and there are a LOT) is just cramming in so much of the comic content. This doesn't make us comic fans happy, it disappoints us cause none of it has been well executed or written in!

@@abel2933 I would agree with you that music industry, and movie industry for that matter is quite corrupt and perversed. Some really demented people work in Hollywood. And we can see that more and more, their sickness ends in headlines nowadays.But... Hellboy is of demon origin, you would dissmis him for looking like a devil, but he has a heart of gold. Because he was raised that way, by a human parent. That is the point. Hellboy comic is playing with many mythologies (from all over the world) Christian concepts (Hell etc.). It is a comic with very rich lore, one of the best in that regard in my opinion. I know I won"t change your mind just wanted to add my input.

I’d have much rather seen a prequel of sorts with The lobster and other WWII Era heroes of this series. Make it separate enough from the Perlman hellboy so that if you wanted it to be different it could be. Or if the fans want it tie it all together in Hellboy III. Don’t throw shit at the wall and hope it sticks.

The way he played Hellboy was fine. David was my favorite part of the movie. It's the movie's version of Hellboy and how he seems kinda stupid that doesn't suit well. They play things off like a comedy, when usually it would be best to treat things with actual relevant weight.

This movie got way too much hate, I understand why it did but on its own it was an above average film that dove deeper into the Hellboy lore and Harbour gave it his all. He was never going to be Perlman, and Guillermo didn’t direct. Anyone who wanted it to be the same was fooling themselves. I loved it anyways, despite some clunky areas.

On its own it was below average with too much comic content crammed into a movie leaving a lot of areas to feel undeveloped or unexplored. With poorly written characters amongst other flaws.
