I bought a used hemi, I didn't even go through the compression test, just went for a total breakdown and inspection of absolutely every part and reassembled. The seller was asking why I did it and I told him that I needed the piece of mind. Glad that I did it.

After its on the stand might as well pull the pan and inspect bottom end, wouldnt hurt to inspect a main bearing and rod bearing as well as end play on the thrust bearing. Hopefully the bottom half of engine is ok but i know how details are important to you its best not to look over anything since this motor will be pushed hard or already has. I bet you could have the valves and seats re-ground and it would be back up to par. In my experience, the coating just wears off the rotors like that from normal wear BUT, I saw what looked like a chip on one so, I'd send er off and have it rebuilt/upgraded if you can and go from there along with having the heads gone through. Wouldnt be bad to have them ported/polished and have a valve job anyway since they are off. It'd only help make power with less effort 💪

It wouldn’t hurt pulling the Oil Control Valve that’s right at the front of the valley, if you haven’t already. Check the screen on it for any metal or debris. That will give you an idea if there was any metal introduced into the oil and circulated through the engine.

One of the benefits to a CLT is you can determine where the leaking air is going and use that info to get a better idea of the problem. Air in intake tract = leaking intake valve Air in exhaust = leaking exhaust valve Air in adjacent cylinder and/or coolant passages = head gasket Air in crank case = bad rings and/or damaged piston When an engine has been sitting for a long period or I am not certain of it's condition I almost always pull the valve covers, intake and exhaust manifolds off to investigate. Doing so allows you to use compressed air and a vacuum to clear debris from the intake/exhaust ports quite well to prepare for a CLT. Attaching the vacuum to the intake port and shooting a blast of air through the exhaust while the cylinder is in valve overlap first and then reverse the air and vac. If you want to add timing marks to the crank pulley it is really simple on a Hemi due to plug location. You just need a dial indicator with an extended plunger. 1 - Roll the engine over CW with the dial indicator on #1 piston until the dial indicator stops moving 2 - zero the indicator 3 - continue CW to .050" 4 - mark the balancer using something as a reference/pointer 5 - rotate CCW to .050" 6 - mark balancer using previous reference 7 - split the difference and you have TDC

That's why you should buy from factory or a salvage yard...these engines are not cheap....ask me I'll tell you... look what you spent for the one in the hellkota.. sorry Jon it sucks but now you got more content for #1 and #2 you will know what you got when done.... super charger is going to be 2,500-3000 for a good one......I have no idea what it cost to rebuild on I know the gasket kit is around $200 for the super charger... keep smiling brother it could be worse right? 👍👌✌️

my truck is parked on an angle a little, when we bought it in 2006 , of course it didnt shift right,an they never fixed it 100 per cent,they did put a new shifter on the column cause of a service bulletin, i can crank mine an put in reverse quickly,an turn around an go,an its like its been running an hour, dealer an no one can figure it out, we bought flowmaster muffler also in 2006 and needed new cat converter, which we got, crank it up to go other times an it strains,an finally goes an trans slips at times....barely,other times we let it warm up even in summer an it really goes chirpin the tires an winding hard an fast,i figure possible old junk trans fluid,or filters up in there are filthy, or cat converter is partially clogged whatever,i have no help,an get paid very little each month...stupid ass dealer only wants money an to sell you a new heavy ass challenger or charger etc..by the sound of the motor though,it winds out and is gone a good bit faster than your 5.9 was..but why does it sound like,..at times,..like your up against the converter at 3500 r pm,an other times man it screams an you can easily tell it has extra power as i was told they made it to have partially with hypertech11..i think to squeeze as much timing as safely possible,an it will even rattle on mid grade 89 or 91,but likes good 93 octane..and if i take it 40 miles to let the guy check and/ or change trans filters, how will i buy groceries when he is done,or if they check old cat converter, i could just make it sort of true dual exhaust,it will snap your head back hard an nearly get away from you when good an warmed up,an barks tires hard an fast,or is there a friggin senser, or relay someone missed..so i baby it,an gets wonderful mileage under 50 m ph..i have no bucks for sticky tires to see what it will run,or would trans slip or something else..im lost on it,but otherwise is a pleasure with new headliner, fan, water pump etc etc...o well thats it, a mystery.....i noticed it chirpin tires hard after i took out very filthy clogged k an n filter an got another, it can breathe again.....i have heard bad things about these tyrannies thru the years, who knows,but its beautiful with paint an clear coat damage mostly fixed,yep..a lotta words an thats it..wheres my 72 duster twister with a 360, or put a good 440 in it/????

everyone is probably scratching there head in confusion as to why you havent fixed dakota r/t yet,an mad plenty of passes,an then went on to something else,there all too nice an bewildered so they try to encourage no matter what...not me, you screwed up,an now you have to live with your mistakes etc,i been driving one fast truck 16 plus years my dakota r/t,an it will actually get away from you with torque,whatever the guys did before we got it,they did it right,an we put on new headliner, radiater, belts hoses,and fan in last few years an gotta work a tad more on clearcoat..but..good luck in your thinking etc,an patience.........

you did the test wrong I think. I was taught to do leak down the piston on the bottom of the stroke cuz the valves open at the top. the person put a built motor in a trackhawk, you know they abused that engine

now how many have you got tore up,or incompleate, just think if you would have fixed hellkota r/t etc,an it would have been done,have you considered xanax..one thing at a time jon,no im not a hater,an i hope you like the lightnin capital of the country,an where tropical storms love to head to,i told you of a great place in north georgia, paradise dragway in calhoun, and brainerd optmist dragway in fort ogelthorple,near chattanooga,but what do i know,im from the area,and east tennessee also..o well, ifyou like it,it must be allright,i pity the things your gonna have to go through far as the lightning,an storms etc..but good luck,an make the best of it..now how many vehicles are incompleat,or not right etc..but..good luck...keep your heartrate within specs an stay healthy...
