Oh, you wouldn't believe how freaked out I was a couple minutes ago! I thought this was the end of my art career, my future as an animation producer, the end of the world for me even thought 2024 just got started for all of us. Thanks for sharing! i thought it was the ability of saving a psd file in my ipad then moving on to my laptop is whats changing! Also, after your explanation, turns out I barely even used their creative cloud synched files! XD

Unfortunately no, move the files to your computer, device or a different file sharing cloud like Dropbox. Good luck!

Hi Laura. Like everyone else, I've also been wondering how this will affect me. I really only use Sync for Lightroom between mobile devices and desktop, and occasionally Photoshop. I see that you've covered it here: 00:30 "This does not affect your Cloud Documents from the mobile apps or ones saved to the cloud from the desktop apps", but could you clarify this a bit more? Are we losing Sync between devices and Cloud Storage. It suggests that we're not, but I'm not finding very much information online about this. If I need to download all my photos, I'd rather do that now than wait until the last minute. From your video, I don't think it has any impact on my workflow. Thanks.

On that Adobe page I linked to: "Adobe continues to offer and support cloud storage and syncing across Creative Cloud with Cloud Documents, Creative Cloud Libraries, Lightroom Cloud storage, and Frame.io cloud storage. None of these cloud storage solutions are impacted by this change."

in my Creative Cloud Files folder where according to your video is the synced file, it has one thing in it, that thing being _Cloud documents. That was something automatically put in there (I know because before hearing about this I never even touched the Creative Cloud Folder), but it is very important because when I click on it it takes me to ALL of my cloud documents. Should I move that out of the file or is it supposed to be there and if I keep it there will it lose all of my files?

I see that in my folder, too - it's a link that takes you to a web page displaying your Creative Cloud account open to the Files tab. That link is not the files themselves but a shortcut to viewing them, similar to how you would view them in the Creative Cloud desktop app.

Hi Laura, thanks for the tutorial. This might sound like a silly question, but can I just drag and drop the creative cloud file into my side bar on my mac? will that automatically save them locally?

The sidebar on a Mac is like a "favorites" menu, so those are not original folders, per se but shortcuts to the folders. The folder actually lives in your Mac user folder. Adobe says they will not move that folder or delete it, just stop the cloud connection. But, on your Mac, you can go to Users > Your user name > Creative Cloud files and move or copy that folder somewhere else. I made a copy just for my peace of mind, but I'll wind up having to delete it later, I like backups ;-) and I'm just waiting to see what happens to the original folder.

Good video thanks. Just to be clear, if I get my files out of the 'Creative Cloud' and save them to my computer separately, then I will still be able to work on them after Feb 1st - right? 🙂 I use the In Design program and need to regular update my projects.

This is not about all files in the 'Creative Cloud', only the ones you placed inside that very specific folder in the video. Hope that helps!

That's OK, I don't share files online anyway. I'll also copy these files to another folder in case that 'Creative Cloud Files' folder mysteriously disappears!

Hi Laura! I'm so confused! 🤦♀ I go back and forth from Fresco to Illustrator (and vice versa) to add to and alter my designs. I save my Illustrator file on my Mac book in 'Creative Cloud files' so it then appears in Fresco when I use the little 'photo' icon- choose creative cloud then CC files. I really just use it so trace over and add bits to my design, then send it back to illustrator. I found this works for me and now I'm not sure how to open my illustrator file in Fresco when This option disappears! When I click 'Save As' Save to Creative Cloud I cannot seem to find them again in Fresco. Can you help at all?

I see what you mean! Illustrator files can't be edited in Fresco, but I think I understand that you are using them like you would use images and sketches to trace over. I don't work this way myself, but I just tried to click the photo icon in Fresco, choose Files, then choose Dropbox - but I can see that Illustrator files and PDFs are greyed out and not available. You can choose images saved in Dropbox, but not Illustrator content. Your workaround may be to use screenshots of your Illustrator work (or image exports) and instead of saving it to Creative Cloud Files as you are doing now, drag the screenshot into dropbox (or other file sharing cloud) or export the image to dropbox. Then click the photo icon in Fresco, choose Files, choose Dropbox (or iCloud Drive, etc.). Let me know if that helps!

Also, just saw the last part - when you "save as" from Illustrator, and choose Save to Creative Cloud, this creates an .aic file in your Creative Cloud, which can't be opened in Fresco. You can only open psdc files or import a .psd from the Home Screen in Fresco. But, if you have .aic files you want to use, you could open them in Illustrator on the iPad, click export, quick export as PNG, choose Dropbox, and then you can place the image export in Fresco.

I sent this video to Adobe. Their reps had NO clue how to address this when I reached out yesterday - NONE! I thought I had lost everything, sent them screenshots, was transferred three times on the chat and then the last rep simply left the conversation! Adobe is going backwards by taking away this feature and it's getting harder and harder to justify the large chunk of money I pay monthly for Creative Suite.

Thank you! Quick question - Adobe will package the synced files and let you download them in zip file, BUT it doesn't say WHERE that zip file is or let you choose the location. It says it downloaded them - but they're not in the Download folder and no where else that I can see. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

This change did not affect Creative Cloud documents (.aic, .psdc files) only synced files, so if you have documents and libraries you will see them in the CC desktop app.

Right, it's no longer there because this video was made earlier in the year before Adobe removed the feature. Now that it's been removed, you won't find it in the Creative Cloud app.

Just a question though, I'm confused about the purpose of the synced files folder - I checked mine and it had nothing in it prior to the discontinuing so I clearly haven't been using it. I also don't really understand the adobe article explaining it, maybe because english isn't my first language😅 Can anyone tell me what the purpose of it was??

It was just an extra feature, not an essential one. A place to store and share files like Dropbox.

Wow if it doesn’t effect fresco files they shouldn’t show that red warning everytime i open it. I just spent hours moving those files 10 at a time because they suck and won’t let you do more. I hope you are right thank you, having to sync ipad to mac would be a disaster without this option

You're welcome! Once I dismissed the warning in the Creative Cloud desktop app, it stopped showing everywhere else. That sync folder can be accessed and some people use it on the iPad, so that may be why the warning shows. Cloud Documents (.psdc and .aic files) on the iPad are not affected, and they will still be visible on your iPad and on the Home Screen of Photoshop and Illustrator on the desktop.

Only files that you are storing in that specific "Creative Cloud Files" folder are affected.

Hi Laura. This wording is confusing me still. This appears when I open up Creative cloud on the website. Can you please add your thoughts, and you may have mentioned it on your video and I have misunderstood. All of my work is synced and stored on Creative Cloud, but I know they are also stored on my PC. I have copied them to OneDrive via my PC just in case. Although, I want to move to an iPad Pro. Saving files to anywhere other than Creative Cloud on the iPad (which the directory isn’t visible in My Files) is impossible currently. This may be updated after Feb 1? Thanks in advance (It seems comments don’t like being italicised and are removed). This is the wording on the creative cloud website: After February 1, 2024, we’re discontinuing file syncing, removing the cloud copies of your synced files and removing shared folders/files. We will not remove files stored on your computer.

I'm not sure what you are asking - sorry! Creative Cloud is a world of files and apps, but this change only affects the folder I showed in the video. Adobe calls these files "Synced files." Adobe's term is confusing because we all think of anything in a cloud in terms of syncing. If you have been placing your files in that folder to store and share them (like Dropbox), they will be affected. If you simply create cloud documents using the apps, these will not be affected. I hope that helps!

I just want to make sure I got this right. So it's just the Creative Cloud documents folder in Files that is being affected. Is it true that they will delete everything in there?

I did not say they would delete everything in there, and Adobe has said they will not delete anything local on your computer, only the cloud version. You can read Adobe's help page at the link in the video description.

I use cloud sync to sync up two different systems that I use and have a shared folder with a sign shop that I do work for remotely. So this move by Adobe is very disappointing to me. I went ahead and signed up with Microsoft 365 OneDrive and got a terabyte of cloud storage that allows me to sync my computers.

I use the synced files as a storage..it is not connected to my laptop will it delete all the files from there?

My understanding is that nothing will be deleted (Adobe will not delete folders or files) from any local device, but the local folder will be disconnected from the cloud folder, the cloud folder is going away. I made a copy of the local folder because I like backups.

I used their cloud storage in creative files as a storage unit….in creative cloud I have used 71/100gb of storage but None of those files are synced to my laptop… e.g I create a file in ID..save to laptop then I make a copy and go to the adobe creative cloud website and upload as if I’m using Google drive or Box…my laptop and creative cloud app are not synced..I paused the sync over 2-3yrs ago…so will those file be deleted? Or they will be placed somewhere else for access?

As I understand it, you will need to sync the cloud version to the local folder. If you don’t have a local copy of the cloud folder, you may lose those files. Please contact Adobe support - make a local backup of your files, I would not leave it to chance.

My problem is, I cannot even find my cloud files. I go to Creative Cloud through the browser, and there is no library of my files, or any obvious option to choose to find them.

You can find everything under Files, Your Files in the Creative Cloud browser. If you are looking for Cloud Documents, Libraries, they are there on that page. The synced files (which this video is about) are under "Launch More" at the bottom, and you can zip and download them now - something new since this video was published. Hope that helps!

@@LauraCoyleI have an issue similar to this, except that the only way I can see my files is through the Adobe creative cloud mobile app. However I cannot share and download the original files, only jpgs. I'm scared that my files are gone forever or locked what do I do? I already contacted Adobe so many times but no one will answer through phone or email.

I know! That folder was not crucial to my workflow, but I used it a little, so I will miss it.

Sorry but this sucks big time. What about my shared indesign collaboration projects? It seems I just have to find another sharing service.. well thanks lot... paying 780 euro a year to adobe...

Im paying for 100gb of cloud storage and i cant use it now? Wtf?

Well only if you actively use that Sync folder. If you don't then all your other files saved in the Cloud should be fine (if I understood correctly). Becuase I pay for the same too, but those files shouldn't be affected. Its only for the Cloud Sync (which most ppl use for sharing projects as links and such). The storage you pay for should not be affected (I think!) :-)

Thank you for adding this comment! You're right, and it doesn't change the amount of storage space on the cloud - just means you have more to use for Cloud Documents, CC Libraries, etc.

Yeah! I just spoke with Chat support, and she said everything in my cloud files would be safe. anything specifically in the clouds "sync" folder would be removed. Just as explained in this amazing video 🙂
