Tim, Thanks for showing folks about loading a bisque firing. One thing I have a bit of an issue with is at about the 10:15 frame you placed a bowl inside a altered bowl such that it nested inside the bowl below, resting on the rim. This can possibly cause stress and cracking of bottom bowl. I found with my students work to stack rim-to-rim or foot-to-foot and if placing a bowl inside another bowl that the one placed inside was best if the foot sat on the interior bottom, not touching the sides of the bottom bowl. Otherwise, very good video lesson.

In order to see if a piece is too tall, my teacher taught us to make a bridge by placing a flat object over two stilts and then passing pieces underneath it to make sure it will fit. Saves a lot of time if you have a lot of varied height pieces.

I set all my pieces on a large table by size so I know what pots will fit together on a shelf. I also outlined a full shelf as well as a half shelf for both of my kilns so I can place the pieces “in” the area to see what fits! This is where I place my pots when they are dry so it works out well.

Nice video. Thanks you. Maybe you might consider filming everything in landscape so that more is visible for the standard computer format.

This was great information, thank you! Sorry if these are stupid questions, I am new at doing this, how come you can paint and stack them together? Is that underglaze paint? What kind of clay did you use? How to know what kind of clay can be painted for bisque firing? Thanks again!

How much in advance do you make your cone 'holder'? Is it leatherhard, or bone dry? In your video is looks as though its got some moisture left in the clay? Great video -- thanks!

cone packs go in at bone dry, the clay is just a little off color, its reclaim

Thank you! Great video! Which I had seen it before I loaded my first bisque. ;-) Will you do one on loading a cone 6 glaze? Though it will be too late for me since I plan to fire my first glaze this weekend. :-)

Can you clarify for me... are you loading bisque and glazed pieces in the same firing? Are glazed pieces touching each other? I have always thought that’s a no no.
@timseepots
@timseepots 6 жыл бұрын
these are underglazes in a bisque. They are fine to ^06. Some may not be its best to test the ones you use on pieces you don't care about

@timseepots

A blown up up is a failure of the person firing the kiln and independent of how its stacked. There is no reason for work to blow up when fired properly. Stack the kiln anyway you want.
