I would have thought that giving the cot a new lick of paint that went with the decor would be a great idea. It would still get to be used, but would fit the OP's aesthetic.

Yes a great way to up cycle and save some money and OP can still show the friend the cot and explain they changed the colour to fit the theme of the nursery
