Which Toyota 4Runner is right for you? There are 14 Trim Types for the 5th Generation. Part 1 we discussed how Trim Types have evolved so you know what to look for in the used market. Part 2 we go into deeper detail of the different features and what it costs to buy that Trim Type new or used. Part 3 we finish up the Venture, TRD Pro, TRD Sport, Limited and even the GX460.

Get the Trd pro always if you can find and get. It’s been the best resale values after a few years. Pro is the best by far and gets the best resale values even with high miles. I have had 4 and never lose of you take care of.

Only differences between the pro and TPE or TRDOR is suspension and the special colors that doesn’t get put on the following year for diff models. Ex. Inferno

I disagree with this. Assuming you’re in 7-8K more than an OR Premium, the resale values between the Pro and the OR Premium are largely within that delta. The ORP is arguably the best buy.

The pro depreciates too. Good luck finding one without a huge $7k mark up. Don't like sunroofs or dual zone AC. The JBL system is nice. Auto headlights are nice. At MSRP I'm sure it's a fair, but still more expensive, trim. With markups, it's definitely not worth it. The ORP is IMO the best value. 8k less MSRP no mark ups

Agreed, often folks say they save $8-10k going with the ORP, but there are some features the PRO has that they leave out-like upgraded audio system, dual auto climate control, auto on/off headlights, and home link. Additionally, with the PRO one would also save on time and labor costs having to install the mods (which is expensive here in NA). I think the value proposition between ORP and TRD Pro is a lot closer than folks make it out to be. To me ORP seems ideal for modders and those who don't use it as a daily driver, while TRD Pro suits non-modders who use it daily. Coming from a 2015 Lexus RX350, I didn't want to sacrifice those few amenities that the TRD Pro provides.

Three days ago I bought my brand new 2024 TRD Pro here in North Carolina for only $1000 more over the MSRP, with 4 miles on the ODO. With all the accessories it had from the factory/port I paid $59,000 total. So in other states is not so bad to buy a TRD Pro.

Good analysis. The One Major difference AND benefit of buying the TRD PRO with those add-ons is that they're designed, assembled, and built by Toyota. By the Japanese themselves (ie superior engineers, superior quality controls) AND its under Manufacture Warranty. It is always better to have the Japanese/Toyota build-out your 4Runner for a little extra $$, rather than going to a middle America mom-n-pop mechanic to build out your stock 4Runner. Would you rather eat sushi at an Italian owned restaurant OR would you rather pay $20 more to eat the same sushi at a Japanese owned restaurant?

TRD pro is nice, lots of positives. But Toyota and Fox don't sell rebuild kits for the suspension. So that means you have to buy another set of shocks or wait to get the suspension back from Fox. Sending the Fox suspension to Fox takes weeks. Also any competent shop can add new suspension to a 4runner, you don't need to worry about it not being done properly. Just make sure you do your research and pick the best suspension for you. The Fox TRD pro susoension is good, but with no rebuild kit available, also overall quality is decent but you can better for the money spent.

It is the best value for your money and best bang for your buck. Good advice in your video. I do miss the manual transmission of my Gen1 4Runner. In my personal opinion (for what that's worth), I think if you can get the TRD Pro for MSRP it's the best option for value. Not only because it comes with a $3,000 suspension, CRAWL control and Rear Locker, but the resale value compared to any other trim is exceptionally high (Especially if you get one of the ~750 color of the year ones). I mean, even 2-3 year old TRD Pro 4Runners are still at or above their original MSRP. Furthermore, I think that with the huge MSRP increases low end trims like the SR5 and TRD Off Road are broken. SR5's are like $47K now... Which is insane as a few years ago they were about $36K.

An aspect of ownership not mentioned in your review is resale. I think a relatively stock spec Pro would hold its value well compared to a one off upgraded version. Ad in the fact that the factory only makes about 1000 of them a year makes them a shade on the rare side. People pay for that. And, oh ya, your factory warranty will remain intact. Just another way of looking at things!😊

Every 4runner is selling for good money right now, even the 4th gens are around 10k or more for a good one. I just bought a 2013 SR5 with 160k miles for 16k. All the TRDs had too many miles or they wanted way too much IMO. Even the 2014s were all at or above 20k. I was forced into the used car market and with the prices being ridiculous no matter what you buy, I figured I'd buy one of the most reliable vehicles there is. I do plan on offroading and doing all my own upgrades. I am impressed all around with this rig so far. Best purchase I've made in a long time.

I purchased a 2023 SR54 wheel drive with third row seat. It is Barcelona red with a Toyota "blackout package." The dealership raped me without lube on the price, but I love the truck Negatives are very small third row seats (I only occasionally use them). I keep them folded down most of the time. Also, the body DOES roll on tight curves. An inexperienced driver could loose control if he is used to non truck vehicles. The gas milage is horrible and the fuel tank is smallish. I only can count on 450 miles per tank (way too few miles). The cloth seats will eventually rip, but I will get seat covers some day. I intend to keep it until I die. The turbo 4's and 6's will never last as long. I love the room (cargo and first two rows), and I love the color. Overall, worth the rape I got at the dealership. They will never build cars that will last this long in my lifetime.😢

I have decided to wait for the new set up. The new 4Runner will probably come with the 2.4 L turbo and 8 speed transmission, which is much more economic and has a little more power. Toyota is betting their reliability moat in this engine, personally I don’t think they would wish to rock the boat and have Korean companies take over market share unless they were sure of the set up doing well. I want to be able to drive it in slushy and wet terrain so to me AWD all the time is important, and the new Land Cruiser base price is comparable to the all time 4WD, so again I don’t see a compelling reason for buying current gen 4Runner.

@@thesilveremir Just two weeks ago, I found out I have to take my Principle's high end Mercedes in for a recall that just surfaced for this software that tracks potential hazards in the road and obstacle avoidance for this exact issue. About a month ago, the car picked up a dark spot in the road doing 50 mph, thought it was a hazard, and it slammed on brakes and swerved. Took over all controls and braking. It stopped so violently, it locked up both of our seatbelts and nearly caused the client to have a heart attack. A service pickup behind us locked up his brakes and had to swerve the opposite direction we did to avoid rear-ending us, all because the software "thought" we were going to hit a small object in the road. I knew it was just s blemish in the road and it was fine. It's done this a dozen times in the past 1 year. Now, it almost gives you anxiety driving the damn thing. Not worth the $137,000 price.
