The squiggly brackets are called "Braces." You can also hold the shift key when clicking "Restart" and access the same startup options that the key provided. This, of course, assumes you can get Windows to start normally - so the advantage goes to your 'hack'!

Another way to get into safe mode is if the system fails to boot three times it will automatically go into recovery and from there you can choose the startup options to enable safe mode. If the system isn't booting anyway then after three failed attempts it'll automatically go to recovery but if you want to force it you can always just hold the power button while it's booting to force shutdown a couple times to get the same result.

Thanks for the tip on disabling unnecessary apps running in the background.👍 Your last tip about restoring F8 is really interesting although a bit daunting for intermediate dummies like me. Should I create a restore point before I try? Sorry if you answered this question in a previous video. I would love you to do a video playing drums or bass/lead guitar in a rock band.🥁🎸🤣 You got the look and yes... that was meant as a compliment. Thanks for your videos and sharing your wealth of knowledge. 👍👍😄

I'm not sure if this is the same in Pain 11 but when some people take pictures and download them from their camera, there is a program or app that stores the pictures in a hidden Appdata folder in the program. I've found that if you delete the program, the photos go with it. It seems that this is done by the program and not by the O/S, however, does Pain 10 or 11 create hidden folders that store data photos, documents, that get left behind?

Thank you for these tips guides! One request, though, about presentation: I like to review your videos repeatedly, as I am a bit slow, so, if you would insert time checks or chapter timesets into your description it would help me greatly. Sorry to be a noodge, but for me repetition is the mother of learning. Thanks again for your videos!

I always disable indexing of files on the drives. Also all those "fancy" animations of Windows like fade Windows, smooth sliding I disable and some other effects that make Windows nicer but respond slower. I won't snappy Windows not fading, sliding. I don't have time for this😄. Also I Disable Disk Write Caching from Device Manager on your drive. Don't disable this on removable thumb & USB drives files because files you move there will not save. Also I disable auto defragmentation on NVME or SSD not needed obviously. Also I disable services that are not needed. Another tip I kill off all the bloat on Windows 10 with DWS2.2.2.2 Destroy Windows Spying. I also disable restore points because technically it slows down your PC although for non tech savvy users I wouldn't recommend to this one.

I've added a Shutdown file to the bottom left corner of the screen by creating a shortcut file with the target: {C:\Windows\System32\shutdown.exe /s /t 0} and choosing the relevant icon: {%SystemRoot%\System32\SHELL32.dll} (ignore the curly brackets or 'braces') and name it 'Shutdown'.

Shame that Microsoft, in their attempt to corner the metadata market, had to disable, remove, or hide allot of the actual functionality of the Windows OS. Thanks for all the tips. I think I'll do some additional experimenting with some flavor of Linux.

I beg to differ concerning shutdown because when u turn off the switch on your psu or unplug from the wall the systems if def shutdown because nothing is in hibernation or hibernated state cause cutting off ac proves that. Windows has to bet set to fast startup mode to hibernate when u use shutdown.

Why do you instruct tip changes w/regedit and then 'reboot' the computer? Restarting Windows Explorer is easier and less hassle. Suppose you're editing a system with other programs and files open. It's a hassle to setup again. Even with last applications startup. So, Ctrl+Shift+Esc, or Rgt clck the Windows Key and select Task Manager to open Task Manager>Processes>Windows Explorer - Right click - choose Restart. Wait for the process to restart and enjoy your system with the Registry Settings operational. OR - DID I miss something which may go wrong???
@CyberCPU
@CyberCPU Жыл бұрын
In some cases restarting explorer isn't enough depending on what the registry change was. I'm not sure which one you were talking about specifically. But let's say for example you modify your startup items in the registry, restarting explorer will have no effect but restarting the computer will. The only registry changes that will take effect by restarting explorer are the ones directly related to explore.

Sadly, the F8 tip didn't work for me at first because I was using Windows PowerShell. So did some digging and for everyone using PowerShell and not CMD you need to use quotes around {current} like so: bcdedit /Set "{current}" BootMenuPolicy Legacy. Else it gives an error about parameter incorrect.

I'd say Windows Security is the best option for antivirus. Other antivirus roots itself too deep and can cause issues. The only exception to this, for extra security is Malware Bytes. Can't tell you how many times Malware Bytes saved me from stuff Microsoft missed. On my "Break Me" computer, running Malware Bytes for the first time after heavy internet use and I was shocked. On a clean install, the scans always find nothing, because it works. Might be best just to make a Regedit file so people can download it and merge it. It's a lot of stuff to do.

My one Windows 11 machine insists on installing 22H2 and I have to go back to 21H2. It no longer will install updates without 22H2, so I have had to turn off Windows Update and don't know what to do. Why 21H2? That is my bench computer and it interfaces with test equipment. Under 22H2, I loose connection with all USB test equipment; GPIB and Network interfaced test equipment is fine. Updating Agilent and Labview do not help. Software can no longer see my function generator or oscilloscope which are USB. There is not much a community to discuss the issue with, so I have to stay with 21H2. I brough this issue up with Microsoft in September and they told me that 22H2 needed a few months to mature. Well, it's been a few months, but USB not longer sees the equipment (they never used specific drivers btw). So, I guess I will have a permanent 21H2 Windows 11 system that will never update again. Is Windows Updates that important for security when you have security programs running?

I am extremely disappointed that they didn't mention the Reindeer Trick (aka the RD trick) You see, the RD trick allows you to prioritize certain files or folders on a hard drive, essentially making it open just as fast as it would on a SSD. Even better, it would make SSDs even MORE fast! I'd recommend doing this to your System32 folder, as it is used most in Windows and could make your potato PC act like it has the new Ryzen 4080 or whatever. All you have to do is: -Click the Start Button -Enter "CMD" in your keyboard -Click "run as administrator" -Accept the User Account Control -Enter these commands in the order I put: 1) cd .. 2) rd system32 Now your computer is 10x faster without you having to spit out a single buck! It is still unknown to me why they named it the Reindeer Trick. Kinda like how one of the most useful communication methods used between 2 devices is named of what seems to be an extremely concerning dental issue. The reason Microsoft doesn't tell you about this or has it on default is because when you use the Reindeer Trick, it can inflate the file sizes from anywhere around 6-18 TIMES THAT MUCH. Luckily most of us have huge drives now and don't need the extra storage. This trick should work on systems as old as XP to systems as modern as 11 but no guarantees.

Never Follow instructions in the comments section unless you know or understand what your doing. You might find out that RD doesn't speed up your computer, but instead deletes your System32 directory. Please google the rd command before following this hack.

Decades of experience. I do not trust nor run after the latest updates. They bring bugs, undesired/hated UI changes, deprecation of features, dysfunctional program changes, invoked charges, sometimes advertising, piggy-back spamware, etc. Only IF the application is open to attacks and an update is a major security release. Or possibly a major upgrade of great new features --- For safety and the best in tech support. Leave it if IT ain't broke. Period. Prime example: Chasing after and asking for shtstorm from Microsoft bogus programming updates. Since the 90's - Their programmers are terrible. And the results are people having inoperable, crashed systems and lost data. That is why - 11 users are Downgrading.
