My wife only wanted girls because they are more sensible than boys, as can be seen in the video. Every time she was pregnant, she terminated it if a test showed Y chromosomes in her blood because that means a boy baby. We have four girls and are very proud of them, there were 3 terminations of a Y fetus.

Yeah it drives me bonkers that parents think they don’t ALSO have to teach KIDS how to be around animals! My family has had animals in every generation, all my extended family. Kids are always taught safety like not approaching strange dogs because they may not be as nice as our dogs, not to harass dogs and cats, and if you do harass them then they will bite or scratch. Snowflakes today let their kids behave like monsters and think actions don’t have consequences. Train your pets, of course. Also train up your kids properly!

You always get some matting with long haired gsd and they're tIls are normally longer due to the long hair on the tail I.e it does normally brush the floor, but I think your right there is some matting making it worse. Not the main problem here though, the dog has nt been exposed to children as a puppy and as Joel says become reactive.

When young and small they need to be socialized and presented with situations outside the norm or they never learn how to handle new situations. It is easier to socialize a 10 pound puppy than a 100 pound fear biter. Owners need the training way more than the dogs do. The first months of a dogs life are the most important for training and behavior developement.

Well, I'm Autistic (High Functioning) and I paid a deposit on a German Shepherd puppy at about 4 weeks old (I picked out the one I wanted) and at the 7th week the lady I was buying from sent me a message on Facebook messenger and told me that all the puppies of that litter died. And so she gave me a choice of giving me my money back, giving me a pup from the next litter, or just taking a 3 year old male that's fixed or a 1 year old female. I chose the one year old and said she wouldn't charge me the rest because she felt so bad about the puppies dying. So I put this one in kennel at her house in back of my truck. My wife and grandson were wit me. Then by the time we got to the next couple towns I ended up getting her in to the back seat with my 2 year old grandson. He was a bit terrified because he was bit by another bigger dog a few weeks prior but not really bad. But of course he made a fuss and puppy jumped back out of my vehicle. I had wife pull grandson out of his car seat (2 years old) and got him calmed down. Then put her back in the back seat and closed the door. And then we put him back into his car seat and gave him a toy and he calmed right down. And the female puppy was in seat directly behind me, and grandson was in seat directly behind my wife. Puppy made no attempt to get any closer to baby. And then when we finally got home, wife wanted to let her dog out to pee. And she came to me and looked up into backseat and seen bigger dog (puppy). Wife's dog is an 8 year old female (fixed). And I asked previous owner about the dog befire we left. Said she wasn't sure how she would be with toddlers, but she was good with her 10 year old son. And that she was good with other dogs. But wife's dog jumped in to my front floor board, jumped up into driver's seat, then middle console, and then back out same way she came. This dog was a total wreck from all that. She hid under my truck. Took me about 30 minutes to get her out. She's not a biter thank goodness. And she is right now staying in front of the door to my step sons bedroom and he's not here tonight. I brought kennel in for her for when I'm at work tomorrow, I'll be gone for 3 hours, home an hour for lunch, and then go back to work for next 3 hours. Then I'll be home to let her out. So far I've had to pick her up to put her in my home and to take her back out to see if she would use restroom. She never did. So then I picked her back up to bring her in. And she's been laying in doorway between bathroom, back door, and step son's bedroom. And found out she won't eat from a bowl, it has to be on the floor. I kids her on her snout. She responds pretty good to that. I keep petting her, checking on her, talking to her and so far she's lucked my hand and arm. She barks and growls every time she sees wife's dog. Lol. And just after wife's dog leaves her sight in the living room from hallway leading to back door. Wife said she thought she was growling to get my attention. So hope in next few days she will come around... Hopefully...

@@BDTraining hi there, i would give you an update! sam was in heat a week into training. she got really defensive so we needed to put a pause on it. we've been in training now for 3 weeks. training 4 days each week. she is showing great progress, people can approuch us and childeren can also walk up to us. sometimes she needs a little help with the leave it command but she shows progress in trusting that other humand wont pet her. we've been training to let people pet her now for 2 trainings. what we do is she sits next to me and someone is in front of is. on my call she can go over there to get a treat and gets right back to me. after doing this a few times sam stays at the other peron he or she feeds her another 2/3 treats and then pets her chest. then right after the touch another treat. this has been going great. after doing this for 5 minutes she trusts the person enough to play and eventually comes to them for a pet. so we will continue doing this the next few weeks with the hope that she will learn from this. the lesson woud be, even if other people would want to pet me its not so bad.

She's walking like she is in pain, as German shepherds are so deformed by their incest breeding nowadays (see how low her back is, that's not good + painful), these dogs are predestined for painful hips or joints. One thing I'll do with a dog that has this anxiety level towards humans/kids, I'll initially tell them to get down on eye level, not facing her, just sitting on the ground talking with each other. For a fearful dog that situation with 6 people standing and looking at her might be a big step for the beginning.

I've been watching your videos searching for answers about the behavior of muy dog!!! But I'd really like it if you read me out, because I've tried everything and I still don't know how to help my dog. I own a female German Shepherd mix... We suspect the father was either a malinois or a dutch shepherd. A coworker gave her to my dad when she was one month old, because he told my dad her mother was bitting the puppies. So she came home with us. I think her puppy period was mostly ok, we did socialize her, but she had a bad experience with a neighbor dog who was off the leash and came running to her and bit her, that was when se was around 3-4 months old... After that a had other two incidents with that dog, because again it was off leash and aggressive towards our puppy. Since then my dog is overtly reactive, but just against that dog. We've tried to help her with training, and the girl who helped us, said she didn't find anything wrong with her, she learns fast, she has self control, etc. But after the first year we had bad experiences at a local dog park. She got to bite two dogs (at different times) because they wouldn't leave her alone, after the bite the other dog would leave her alone and the owners said it was fine because their dog was being invasive, but she also got into a dog fight with three dogs (again at different times), I think the fight began again because she felt her space being invaded, but instead of leaving her alone after her warning the other dogs fought back... these fights didn't last long and didn't ended up with fatal wounds, jus some spit over their coats, but they were still fights... I know I shouldn't have taken her to the dog park after the first incident, but my mom did wanted to, so I said, ok let's go, and obviously it didn't work out. After the last experience, we decided to stop taking her to the dog park, just exercise her through long walks, or playing to fetch the ball, and overall she's good during the walks and we can even walk her off leash, she has dog friends and she plays well with them, but lately during her 2nd year, she's shown signs of fear when meeting other dogs, big male dogs and some female dogs from strong breeds, she's even shown fear towards some of her friends (particularly a male Alaskan malamute, and a male Great Dane). Also she's shown fear towards some people (particularly males)... I really need help, cause I don't know how to help her at all, and I can see she wants to play with other dogs, but when she gets close she just steps back and hides or evades the other dog... And she's curious about people but then again takes a step back, hide and sometimes she even barks at them... Could you please give me your thoughts on her behavior?

Do you happen to have a video of fearful dog who's lunging and trying to bite on top of that? I've got an 8 year old rescue spaniel and it's becoming apparent that he was given away because he is unmanageable and unpredictable on walks, especially around children and wheels on pavement (you can imagine that kids on scooters are a real disaster!). I started with leash reactivity trainings, he's mostly getting it and can be better controlled now, but I don't really know any kids that I can trust to throw treats at him. We've been trying to go around kids playing areas and observing them from afar, but that doesn't seem to interest him all that much, and it has a bad side effect of kids wanting to come close and pet him, which is definitely a very bad idea. (Not to mention that parents start to think I'm creepy) Something tells me he never really got properly trained because of the positivity-only nonsense and weak handling of dominance, and learnt to disobey whenever he pleases. I'm not hoping for a dramatic change of character at his old age, but I am not giving up just yet!

One big thing is that your dog is just now getting out of the most severe “fear period”, and kid fear/reactivity can be a part of that, so time is on your side, and the dog may simply grow out of his kid fear. This dog is an example of what show dog people can do to a breed. Look at the tail dragging on the ground, in nature that dog's tail would get filthy, matted, infected and evolution would remove it from the bloodline. Look at it's hock, it's a purpose bred disability by GSD breeders because of the ridiculous breed standard. Don't get me started in GSD temperament! All bred in traits by show dog people.

My wife terminated pregnancies that showed a Y chromosome so right there that is your main problem. A little girl would have been much more sensible and would treat the dog better, and, the dog would feel comfortable. But you have a boy.

Why is she dragging her tail. I don't think she lifted it once during this entire video. That just seems odd to me like is there something wrong with her lower back/spine. Did a child step on it. I can't get past the tail.

I love how the kids behave but I think that the dog has reasons to be scared: 4 different people staring at her! this is too much for a dog with fear, you can see that she is not eating the treat. This is a sign about how stressed is. Dogs cannot learn if they are with such fear (the intensity is too high). This happened because they are looking directly to her, standing up and then the distance was too close. They were very near to her. I don't see the dog is receiving a positive reward. If she is a puppy, she can be sensitize and have the opposite result than the one you want: she can became reactive over kids as she sees she is not respected and sees that they are doing things unexpectedly (running, screaming, etc) which is what is done in this video: all at the same time. Keep calm. One step at a time. You can first only make her look and smell at distance to the kids and then coming back to a safe place, not being involved long time with this stress. Sorry to say but this is not useful for the dog neither for the owner and his family.

This should be a warning to all breeders. The German Shepherd is supposed to be one of the best breeds in the world with impeccable temperament and nerves of steel. This dog is beautiful but has the temperament of a coyote! Breeders that produce such a dog should be ashamed of themselves. Stop breeding show line disasters.

@@DougHinVA for the record I have never purchased a dog, I volunteer with rescues, I have done independent rescue, and I have volunteered at shelters. So yes I know all about adoption and support it. All of my dog's came off the street or from people needed to rehome and I chose to adopt it. However, I do support high-quality breeders and I will tell you exactly why in another post. I'm a huge Enthusiast of all dog breeds but particularly have a fondness for the working line German Shepherd. Later I will reply and I will delineate exactly why I support good breeders. And I mean good breeders not backyard breeders or breeders that are simply trying to make a profit

@@DougHinVA okay there's a follow-up, first of all, even if you stop all the ethical breeders from breeding, there will still be a huge overpopulation because there are plenty of backyard breeders that are breeding poor examples of each breed and making a profit off of them. In fact, some rescues are even purchasing breeding b****** sometimes even pregnant so they can have a purebred and a litter to "adopt" with the misguided hope that they will put the breeder out of business when in reality the breeder will simply buy a new breeding b****. The point is that ethical breeders are not the problem. And I do believe that we need ethical breeders because people that like to do IPO, PSA, or any personal protection sport, or even agility, often want dogs that reliably will perform. It is very hard to find a rescue dogs that can be up to the task. Heck, it can be even hard to find a German Shepherd or Malinois that is up to the task. That is why people go do certain breeders to ensure that they are getting the best dog for the job. Stainless police and military. They have certain suppliers they go to usually in Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Holland, Germany to supply dogs for their forces. There are some organizations that are devoted to finding rescue pups for police work but they are few and far between and it's a limited number of dogs if they find for this. More often than not they want to breed their own dogs so they can ensure that nine times out of ten they will be getting consistent litters that will perform. Then there's people that use dogs for hunting. Genetics is 90% of a dog's nature and temperament. Dogs that are nervous and such are often not abused it is a genetic fault just like with humans. Some people have nervous Nature's and some don't. Don't underestimate the power up selective breeding and after all, dogs have evolved alongside humans to work for us. That is how they became man's best friend. I personally do not do personal protection but at some point in the future I am interested in doing this and I will want a dogs that is suitable and I could scour the rescues and then temperament test each one and return the ones that don't work but is that really realistic? And then, I would want to health test them because I want to make sure that not only are they sound of mind but they are sound in body. It is very costly to do all that and so I'd much rather go to a breeder that is known to reliably produce dogs for this work and already temperament and health tested the parents. In a nutshell those are the reasons why good readers are still relevant. But yes, if you're just looking for a great dog to walk once or twice a day or be your lap dog, go to rescue. Great dogs can be found at rescues but sometimes you have to search far and wide for a healthy dog that's not a pitbull or Chihuahua. Not that there's anything wrong with those breeds but that's pretty much all you will find in LA County shelters. So if you want something else good luck
