Quick Video on how to replace the rear brake pads on the 1st Generation Ford fusion! Very easy and quick job. There are other steps I could have taken such as replacing the rotors as well but I was instructed not to as this car was being sold the next day. I will have a video on how to replace the rear brakes coming up in a couple days as well!

If you have electronic rear emergency brakes on a 2016 ford fusion you are not going to be able to just screw the caliper piston in all the way. You must put the car into "emergency brake maintenance mode" to do this watch this video. 2016 Ford Fusion rear brakes with EPB. This guy saved my butt.

Tools needed; Lug wrench (19mm) T45 Torx bit and ratchet, Brake cube tool ($12.99 at Advance auto), flat tip screw driver /prybar. 1st side took me an hour including second run to the auto store for caliper tool. Second side was literally 5 minutes! thanks!

Useful video. Bought disc tool for $13. Didn’t need it. Learned from comments to use Ford Service Mode. That put the electric parking brake in a state where a gentle squeeze with a c-clamp easily compressed the caliper plunger. First side took 3 hours. Second side 10 minutes.

Make sure to put it in brake maintenance mode before taking off the wheels and always remember to lube those “caliper guides”, That’s the main reason the brakes go out so fast
@WheresWaldo05
@WheresWaldo05 2 жыл бұрын
The main reason brake pads wear out fast is due to buying aftermarket brake pads that wear out at best 50% of the stock/oem brake pads life capacity. Also if the rotors have defects in them. And lastly the caliper cylinders sticking so the pads are always or partially engaged.

Hello I liked the video although I had a problem turning back the piston on the drivers side. The piston just stopped turning and would retract by force and you said it could be damaged that way so I googled a method to put 12volts on the motor and it spun out and I was able to turn it in but it with in in the reverse of how it was retracting prior to it stopping? Any concerns?

You won't need the wind back tool that looks like a cube. You will need something to push the caliper pistons back, a C-Clamp pushing on the old brake pads works fine, use slow, even pressure and be sure both pistons are moving equally.

Thank you so much, no way would have I just figured this out by trial and error! At least on a 2014 Fusion, you can turn the caliper back in, but it does not go all the way back by turning, you do still need to use a C-clamp or other tools to compress it in the last half inch or so.

I had to have some work done on my 2015 Ford Fusion and was told my rear brakes had about 3mm left on them. They said that they would repair it for $475.00 but I told them I would wait a little while. I feel confident after watching your video to do it myself, but I want to change out the rotors as the originals are a little warped. My question is, what is that tool you had to screw the piston back in and where can I get one. The shop also said the car had to be put in a service brake mode...is this true and if so, how is this done without a computer? Thanks for any answers.

John Hutchison Hi John. Actually as you will have noticed in the film, I did not put the car in maintenance mode. I simply used the tool mentioned (the brake cube tool) to spin the piston back into the caliper. I did NOT have the brake in the on position. I have it turned OFF in this video.
@johnhutchison9782
@johnhutchison9782 6 жыл бұрын
At 0:57 the EPB did get disconnected, correct? Or did you just move the wires out of your way? Several other videos make it seem like the maintenance mode needs to happen or all hell could "brake" loose (pun intended) It would seem that if the EPB wiring was unplugged, there would be no chance of it engaging during the pad/rotor change process. Thanks! Peace, John

There is an electric service mode for the rear brake. Search it up on KZfaq.

Do you have a video showing how to change the caliber

I don’t. But you would need to follow the steps in this video to remove the caliper. After that, you need to remove the hydraulic brake line from the caliper and the electrical connectors. Then the caliper should be free. Install the new caliper and you then need to bleed the fluid to get the air out of the system.
