How to REPLACE/UPGRADE DASH SPEAKERS in Porsche Boxster 986

UPDATE: Make sure your watch the ADDENDUM video for the dash speaker install after watching this one. It makes the process much easier!
I just replaced the factory dash speakers with some 4" Kicker speakers that I bought from Crutchfield.

Excellent video, thanks. Really helped replacing dash and rear speakers on my 996. The Metra 71-017C Speaker Wiring Harnesses from Crutchfield made the wiring simple.

I replaced my speakers last year, but I didn't cut all of that. You can buy these speaker adapter/mounting plate kits. Now that I look at it, I could have 3D printed some circles and it would have been the same. But it just saves work from trying to reuse the old speaker mount.

What speakers would you recommend if I keep the radio stock and just replace the speakers and maybe the amp? Looking for good sound and bass. My car doesn’t have the door speakers btw, just the dash

At 3:35 in the video I cut the old tweeter wires and talk about how it’s not used because the new speaker has one built in just before that.

What is the dashpad you have on top of the dash? Is it factory or add on and where is it from? It's nice

@@HelpMeDIY I have a 2000 boxster and my dashboard doesn't have a raised pad on top of the dash. Yours looks like it is padded.

Dash ones sound good. I would have done different door speakers if I had it to do over again.

Well watching your content today made me check my dash speakers and they were being held on with wire ties and were blown. Got some 4inch 4ways from Walmart for 20$ and I am putting them in now. I will let you know how they sound.

Dude it sounds awesome. Twenty dollar speakers and they rock. I am on a budget so can’t spend an arm and a leg. Next double din and gonna put two tweeters in the back speaker compartment each and I am gonna build a custom 8inch sub between the seats. I am not gonna do door speakers. For the small passenger compartment I will not need much.

Wrong speaker on dashboard. You work a lot and the quality of the speakers man is so bad.

There is no such thing as a “wrong” speaker. Unless it doesn’t work. But this one was recommended by Crutchfield and definitely works. If you would like to suggest a better speaker that’s fine, but your comment is wrong and pretty useless.
