I enjoyed the video watching another younger old school mechanic actually fix things and not just replace everything. I can't be the only one watching this having done it myself but wondering if there's another trick I can pick up. Thanks for taking the time to make this.

Chase, you are a live saber, I just replaced those bad Boys in my tráiler, your video made it so easy. I couldn´t find that extractor device here in Costa Rica, so I builded one up with left overs ($30) & it work just fine, thanks a lot, & please , keep those videos comming.

Hey Chase. Good video. Those bushings are tough. Thanks and keep’m coming.

I was thinking that tool. Would have been made if it were me. But then again looks like it was worth the price for sure. Thanks for the video showing the easy way of doing this.

Wow! I have that tool, and I've done several of these over the years but I have never seen them come out like this! Maybe it's where I live? But for me, I've even had to burn them out before. I wished I was so lucky lol

Them heaters remind me of afterburners :) You always work hard man, Another great video.

You can get by with a half inch impact but it will increase the wear on the acme screw. Doing it with a 3/4 or 1 inch and youll turn those threads into a slinky. Ive seen it a bunch of times, after they were sent back for warranty claims. Head of the screw was knocked down at the corners from extended ugga dugga sessions and not so much as a drop of the special high pressure grease on it, and the threads sheared right off. No grease and a big impact was sure denial and those things arent cheap. Particularly if you need all three, the wide Hendrickson, the narrow one and the one for the Meritor, think we did the three for $2500 back when they were new and we were the only aftermarket company that had managed to make it without violating the patent. Ive also seen some people ask why the mark and why the bushing has to be lined up just so. For those that dont understand, the bushing allows movement and absorbs shocks in the vertical axis thru the half-moon holes. Its solid front to rear though so the alignment and the spacing between that axle and the rest stays locked in pretty well. Its a pretty smart design, just expensive to replace between the parts and those tools...

I made one of those tools and used one of the large washers that come with the bushing kit to pull it through since it’s smaller then the bushing it pushes the center of the bushing in and compresses it in worked pretty good and use the large impact gun on it and goes right in like butter 🧈

U can. All u need to do is to start somewhere. And the more mistakes you make the more you learn not to make those mistakes next time, and that's how you become smart like him. Remember, he was never born knowing all these things, he also learned from his mistakes. But it's a matter of starting to do something, and buy the tools as well.

Like Allen said we all started somewhere. At one point I didn't know much. If you have a thirst for knowledge and are motivated you can accomplish things you didn't think you could.

What would be an indication that I need to replace the bushings on my suspension. I have a Fontaine flatbed and I’m getting depression wear on the inner forward trailer axles.

Hows it going Chase , years ago there was a guy out here in California that built a portable hydraulic press , he had a airplane and would fly all over the state changing those bushings out in the field .
@LifeWithChase6 жыл бұрын
there is a company that makes a hydraulic setup to do it I found but it was like $3500, You would need something like that if you did this every day

Good video..i need them done on my 09 reefer wabash...the shop told me it's going to take 16hours or more is that almost true? How much did the parts cost you? Just wondering bc I was going to get an alignment bc my tires keep getting ate up and people keep saying my bushings are bad
@brandonoffenberger36516 жыл бұрын
Kelvin Reeves yeah 16 hrs is about right for a shop that time will cover anything they could run into depending on how hard those bushings come out. The hardest one I had to pull I ended up breaking the bushing tool....... I usually say anywhere from 10hrs to two days so 16 hrs when giving time quotes with those suspensions.

How do you when the bushings needs to be replaced?
@ZeMzA-_-Ай бұрын
Lift the trailer up, go to each tire, and put a good bit of pressure with your foot and hands. If you got a good bit of play, you probably gonna need bushings. Trailer walking? Alignment is needed. Bad bushing can cause the Alignment to go out as well. Can also look at the bolts, if them and the plate have wobble marks, you got bad bushings.
@hotshoter25 жыл бұрын
If you take the extensions out of the impact only when you have to have them you lose 30 percent of torque with extensions flopping around, and use never- seize on your parts you don't want to corrode even your lugs for sure with bud wheels and any other bolts your ever want to take back apart,old time retired trucker - mechanic trust me in time you will thank me.

I'll be surprised if that tool last you for another job, they are very easy to mess up, you have to heat the pivot arm first till they start to smoke then extract them, and then you have to clean all the rust built up then install them, so many rookies have fukd the tool up in the shop doing it your way, and the tool is not cheap in price but cheap on materials it's made out of
@jlkohel9112 ай бұрын
You can get those sleeves out with an airhammer instead of welding a nut just fyi
@bennyblanco40545 жыл бұрын
It's good to watch video to sometimes learn what not to do... I see you didn't even use penetrating spray to loosen none of the stuff you took apart... the part to install the bushing its recommend for the price u pay not to use it to get them out.... I cut them off with a reciprocating saw saw... the alignment procedure it's all wrong, have the idea but not the best way to align specially using wooden4x4... 👍👌🙈🙈🙈😎😍

To use a impact wrench to pull the bushing into place is a waste of air and time, let alone loss of hearing. Next time use a TorcUP Volta VT-2000 non-impacting battery powered torque wrench. It will deliver a nice steady 8 rpm with 2000 lb-ft of torque instantly drawing that bushing into place so quickly and so quietly that you will never touch an impact for that work again. Why work so hard, work smarter.

Can't you burn them out? In the auto world, I would just get the torch and melt them!
@Luke-id5bx Жыл бұрын
The auto world and heavy duty trucks/heavy equipment world are 2 totally different animals but we do use torches alot 😂 burning them big thick ass bushings out is a pain in the ass and takes way longer than something you'd find in automotive, I've seen several try and cut the end walking beam bushings out me included and you'll regret it
