OMG! I do the same thing! I have the same hammock and have had it for almost 20 years. And do the very same boot trick as you do. Glad that I am on the same page as a master...😊

Great demo and review of your setup. Cracked me up when you were talking about the racoon stealin your boot. Down here you really gotta deep check your boots if you leave em on the ground from some of the deadly creepy crawlies. Very nice of you to gift your setup to your friend

The state park system in Texas has had a lot of tree damage. Last I looked they went to either banning hammocks or requiring a 2 inch strap around the trees depending upon which park you visit. Most straps are 1". How long a section of paracord did you use prior to tying the knots?
@blackoracle69
@blackoracle69 5 жыл бұрын
i started with a 20 foot and then folded in half..followed with knots at 6 to 8 inch intervals..it works well for me

Blackie, I just want to say I saw your original video explaining your paracord mounting system for hammocks and its been ever a life changing item. I've used it for all kinds of functionality, clothes lines, hanging stuff on my porch like decorations temporarily. The applications of having a quick line you can throw up in a minute with points to tie off whatever in between run to the moon. Its so quick and simple I would think your a genius or I'm stupid don't know which :).

You’re the reason places are trying to ban hammock camping! You can see the bark just breaking off during your video!

And, I'm seeing a camping situation more like the one I deal with instead of the more northern ones, like 100-150+ miles off the Gulf. Watching supposed experts drop their gear and boots on the ground for the night makes me cringe, do it down here and the critters or bugs will be all over it. Same thing for when they camp on or under dead trees, down here, welcome to being bug dinner. FYI, even the big wide straps a Hennesy comes with (or did, I got mine about the same time he did), pine trees will still "flake off" pieces of bark, but it doesnt hurt the bark like it would the thinner skin bark trees more inland. Why? Because the pine bark is much thicker and has layers. He even mentioned that.

@@kamaeq so what's he gonna do when he's not in a pine forest. Also, Paracord stretches overnight. It's not a good choice for hammock suspension anyway.
@kamaeq

@@kirkdouglass7266 Better use straps and that is a valid point, but all of the straps and hammocks I have stretch. Of course, if he stays anywhere near this area of the US (he appears to be located ~100 miles away from me), pine trees are the majority in the woods. It is a problem with a majority of the KZfaq bush craft experts, they live in a much different environment.

This method of setup defies most conventional logic on how to hang a hammock. Great story about the raccoon, though.

Hi Blackie.... Nice System... I am usually a ground sleeper in a "bug proof" tent unless it is raining. lol A hammock is a good way to stay out of the mud. lol One thing you forgot... What ever they use tell folks to practice, Practice, PRACTICE and then practice some more. It will come in handy - especially if it is raining. Rabbit Trail Warning: I have five kids... and we used to go camping a lot as it is relative cheep. My crew could setup camp in about 20min. Everyone had a job and we had practiced at home. One of our favorite hobbies was to sit back and watch other people setup camp. We really like the ones with brand new stuff still in the box. It could be quite entertaining especially if it was raining. If the people were nice we would offer to help. However, we have seen more that one couple/family throw things back in the car/truck and head off to a motel or home. So, practice, Practice, PRACTICE especially when you have new stuff. lol Blessings on this Lord's day.... later.....

I really like your paracord tree straps, I am going to make some. I love my Expedition as well but I rrally hate the straps and system that it comes with. Kudos to HH for shipping it completely ready to go out of the box, but after using it I knew I was going to change that lol

Love my Hennessy hammock. I am looking at one that zips instead of entering from the bottom just because in cool or cold weather it is a little harder to get in and out of.

Dude, get some nylon webbing for the trees with the Paracord. You're killing the bark. Also, Paracord stretches so it's a really silly choice for a hammock suspension.

When you are with other people that are not family, what do you do about changing close, taking a crap - things you take for granted at home?. I usually have to go by myself, so changing and bathroom breaks are not a problem. I put snares out wherever and whenever I want to, etc.etc. Great video! Thumbs up!

research hammock hang angle calculator, and shear force. never, ever hang your hammock taut and flat, and especially not higher than 20" off the ground. eventually, it will fail. shear force on your materials at flatter hang angles than 30 degrees is exponential. a normal person's actual weight on a tense line is in the thousands of pounds.

actually it isnt..you step up and in..put your bact to the rear of the hammock..pull the bottom under you and sit down ..lean back pull legs in ..the bottom snaps shut..to exit..take heel of foot and press seam and presto stand up your out

That system is too much work. You would have been better off adding whoopie slings or cinch buckles. Paracord stretches amsteel doesn't . Plus you should "ALWAYS" use tree straps when hanging a hammock. Rope and para cord are the main reason hammocks are banned in many state parks and national forests. I'm very disappointed to see you recommending the use of paracord as a hammock suspension. You may want to rethink this and tell your viewers to use tree straps.
