UPDATE: Due to several comments asking for a decent quality version of this clip, I'm pleased to offer the full HD version for your viewing pleasure.
I uploaded the original as a low bit rate, low resolution quickie, due to having a lousy internet connection where I was at the time. A big regret now, given that the clip went crazy viral - but how was I to know??
So here it is, (link below) in full HD 1080p glory, along with a slightly remixed audio - a little more of the ambient camera sound, because the disbelievers out there are convinced this was over-dubbed, somehow. As well as the camera built in (rubbish) audio, I placed a Zoom H4n stereo recorder just behind the piano to record good quality sound with less of the background noise audible, to later sync in post production. This resulted in also picking up the sound of broken strings inside the piano, which many people are convinced is the sound of a hidden percussionist somewhere, playing a hi-hat, and therefore it must be an overdub fake studio recording setup or something! Well, it ain't.

Parents used to make me learn the keyboard when i was a kid, there were some fast songs too. I can't speak for others but I played by route. My conscious mind didn't really pick individual keys to press, my fingers just did it themselves.

Pure hard work and practice. All the people that are good at things aren't good because they were born with talent. They put thousands of hours into honing their craft. Talent is a word to make people who have no drive feel better about themselves. "Oh, I could never do that, he was born with it." No, you're just a lazy fuck who'd rather watch than do.

Actually no - hard work is at least as important as talent, and probably more so. Playing piano very well is highly difficult, but anyone with sufficient time and dedication (and the knowledge of how best to apply that dedication) can build up the muscle memory to do so, and even develop their interpretative skills along the way.

This is boogie woogie in the style of the masters from the 1920s and 1930s like Pete Johnson, Meade Lux Lewis, and Albert Ammons. The left hand parts are taken straight from those pianists. The right hand is a variation of their themes. Mr. Herbert is good enough to be mentioned along with those folks, which is saying a lot.

My music teachers main job is renting out sound equipment for events, he even mixes live bands occasionally and I went with him on a few occasions to help out. One wedding I went to, the groom was friends with Henri, so he’d managed to book him and his band to play. I’d never heard boogie woogie much before, but the energy Henri had at that gig was insane. I’d like to be a professional musician myself one day, and even though I’m not a pianist, and boogie woogie isn’t my style. I want to be able express clearly my love for my craft as much as Henri can.

Or maybe every last one of them had to take piano lessons as a kid and their teacher beat them when they missed a note. Now, as adults, they cannot stand the piano so they avoid it at all costs. In all seriousness though, just because the piano isn't your thing doesn't make you a sheep. People seem to be busier than just years ago and have things to do and places to go. I would definitely stop and listen and as long as I could. But if everybody else did as well, wouldn't that make them "sheep".

Not likely, maybe some Beethoven or some other classical pieces. Haven't seen too many Asians that play music with this kind of rhythm nor with much talent of improvisation. Not that they can obviously, but they just seem to be taught towards only set pieces and get stuck doing that which is too bad. Parents have to let their kids loose, free their inner emotions and liven things up on the piano with music like the blues, jazz and some good ol' rock and roll. :D

This video says it all. It`s a "wonderful" mirror of our society... Here people are getting an opportunity to see a genius at his best and they turn their backs towards him, preferring the head-phones with taped music, rushing by not even noticing him, his exceptional talent..., or even noticing each other. Like in a trance, programmed to go from A to B. Gosh, it`s difficult being a feeling human being in this world... MrTrotty57, thank you very much for sharing :))

What really gets to me watching this video is that nobody has the time whilst walking past to stop and acknowledge something very special by an incredibly talented artist. It’s a sad time when people are to self-consumed to appreciate raw talent.
