I always felt that Mr Fonda was underrated because his performances were so nuanced, so understated.

"He was shaking. I leaned in closer and shouted over the music and applause that was starting: 'Make them stand up for you, Henry. You deserve it.' I turned and ran for the wings as the screen began to rise. The audience was applauding, and suddenly he didn't need his cane. He stood tall and elegant. The audience began to stand and as he walked toward a smiling Robert Redford, the entire audience, all two thousand of them, rose up in unison to their feet." -Norman Jewison

He wasn't wrong about coming to the climax of his being, the following year the Great Man was gone. In my opinion one of the top 5 greatest most distinctive voices in film history. The man was a stellar actor of the highest calibre, some of the greatest films ever produced. No one working today comes closes to the magnificent career Henry had.

I always thought that Robert Redford was one of history's most overrated actors. In spite of this, Henry Fonda was one of the top 10 greatest actors of all time in my book. His effortless naturalism, coupled with his timeless versatility in both comedic and dramatic roles made it seem as though he wasn't acting at all. Although he was proficient as both heroes and villains, Hank was best known for his persona as the noble everyman. His warm smile, reassuring demeanor, and commanding but comforting presence made him seem like a very dear friend, even to those who had never seen him before. So in conclusion, even if Robert is pouring the drinks, let's all raise a glass to Hank!

Jimmy Stewart and he were great friends despite their political differences...they had a physical fight over politics once and then they both decided never to talk about politics ever again because they valued their friendship more.

Henry Fonda didn't even need the honorary Oscar. I think he is the only person to have ever won an Honorary Oscar, and later went on to win a competitive Oscar. What's tragic was that he won for his final film role. The Academy was late to recognize him, but at least he was alive when he won.

Fonda was a brilliant actor. An incredible career with many memorable performances. In particular his performances as Tom Joad in the Grapes of Wrath and as Juror Number 8 in the timeless 12 Angry Men stand as a testament to his genius.

It really is a forgotten classic. I'm 31, a western fan and consider Ox-bow to be one of the greatest westerns ever made. My dad's 61, also a western fan but he's never even heard of it. The ending is mind blowing, when Henry reads the letter out in the bar.
