Ray came to Washington from his native Bronx in the early Sixties as an Army infantry/intelligence officer and then served as a CIA analyst for 27 years, from the administration of John F. Kennedy to that of George H. W. Bush. Ray’s duties included chairing National Intelligence Estimates and preparing the President’s Daily Brief, which he briefed one-on-one to President Ronald Reagan’s five most senior national security advisers from 1981 to 1985.

Not much about Kissinger's war crimes, esp. bombing innocent Cambodia who was uninvolved in any crises in South East Asia and much more damage & destruction he caused. McGovern avoided talking about Kissinger.

Having watched Ray on Judge Nap's show, I thought him a little senile at times, as the back-and-forth happens quickly and Ray has trouble tracking what the Judge is interrupting him about. But letting him go like in this interview showed me a side of him I had not previously seen - when working at his own pace, he relates the behind-the-scenes history like few others can. Kudos to Nima for not getting in the way of Ray.

The United States no longer has the economic clout or international credibility to lead negotiations in which China and Taiwan recognize each other as independent nations. At this point, China can achieve a diplomatic coup as a member of the international community by simply recognizing Taiwan as an independent nation, even getting Russia, India, Japan, and South Korea to approve this.

McGovern is really good! He has that kind of goofy funny style but he's really serious. I watched a lot of videos including interviews with Nixon recorded in the 1980s and he's spot on. McGovern even managed to have a balanced view of Kissinger - something I couldn't - and can't - do since I'm from Latin America.

As usual, a very insightful conversation that highlights the reality behind the policies that are driving the narratives. Willful Ignorance of the reality in the evolving world, by those at what seems like the helm is off the charts. They will be the last to figure out their steering mechanism was disengaged when people gained an understanding of the truth. No steering equals No control. ❤️🇨🇦

The judge has a prepared series of questions and is time limited. I love Ray and his style, it's clear he's retired and feels he can speak at his leisure. Judge Nap's podcast doesn't allow for leisure, I'm afraid. This is why Nima's style of show is so wonderful.
@roguewave1060
@roguewave1060 4 ай бұрын
@@soniavadnjal7553 Yes, Judge Nap's podcast doesn't allow for leisure, but these things are important and it's (IMHO) important to hear people like Ray talk about all the details. This of course takes time which Nima provides graciously and patiently. Constantly cutting people off (of constantly playing the same video/audio clips) is really getting annoying, although he has improved a quite bit lately with regards to interrupting.

46:00 - Mr. McGovern made a minor historical mistake. The Treaty of Nerchinsk is generally not the Sino-Russian treaty that many modern Chinese resent as unequal. Nerchinsk was looked upon favorably by modern mainstream Chinese historiography as a treaty that stabilized ties with Russia, & established borders that were more or less favorable to the Qing Empire. The Sino-Russian treaties that many Chinese resent are the Treaties of Aigun & Beijing (1858 & 1860 respectively), which overturned the terms of Nerchinsk, & pushed the Chinese border to the south of the Amur & west of the Ussuri rivers. That said, foreign policy is not made based on resentment alone. Both sides eventually came to a pragmatic realization that continued fighting over these borders is unproductive & neither side will yield any gains, so China & Russia have moved on from this dispute, resulting ultimately in the eventual final demarcation of the Sino-Russian border in '08. But bottom line - Aigun is the unequal treaty, not Nerchinsk.

Nice video. One thing that gets forgotten had been how the USA under Nixon - Kissinger supported Pakistan's (then West Pakistan) genocidal actions in then East Pakistan (February/ March 1971 - December 1971) now Bangaldesh, which saw over 3 million people murdered by Pakistan, and over 200,000 women raped. Pakistan and China were allies then, and the USA supplied weapons to Pakistan... it was US support for Pakistan which China wanted to watch for. When India in December 1971 intervened to end the genocide, the USA was prepared to launch air strikes against India... All of this helped with the US - China rapprochement...
