what exactly is the issue. kid wanted an interview with a hardcore band. he got it. he tried to pretend he was on their level because he's a fan and was quickly humbled. these are good experiences for kids. if he felt otherwise he wouldn't have shared it for everyone to see. feeling sorry for him is one thing, but if you're gonna make an issue out of nothing you're the one that needs to grow up

Yup. I can tell the kid earned some patience from Rollins’ sociopathic hazing he just put him through by holding his ground. Rollins is clearly an autistic narcissist who is fragile in ways nobody at the time was acknowledging, and he even tries to dissemble into humor that bombs. Rollins seems hyper aware of the nature of subculture and hates it because he’s got a high IQ but also hates everyone else who doesn’t know that subculture is a self parasitic social club.

I like this kid, and I don't think he was being mean, at all (just a bit naive) however asking Henry if the band was selling out was a bad question and likely to ruffle more than a few feathers. Either though it was a question that was probably doing the rounds in hardcore circles at the time. Especially if you consider that Black Flag never made any money at all, despite their constant, and grueling fly by the seat of your pants, tours in front of the craziest most brutal audience in music. So you get beat up , abused, spat on by some fans, harassed by the police, are borderline broke, all the time, and then some people accuse you of selling out. That question would really feel like a low blow in that context.

Why is Rollins on such a high horse now, I wish he addressed this now. That break in was karma for sure, for bullying, a kid the size of Kira. Also that kid rose to the challenge when he said r u selling out, thats ballsy, and they had weak comebacks.

He did on his podcast. He says he feels really bad about it and that he was going through a lot emotionally at the time.

He admitted what he did to this kid was wrong. He also explained that he was going through alot of shit at this time and misplaced his anger out on this poor kid who was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Rollins. He's in his mid-twenties slapping around a high school junior for just asking questions. He did this all ostensibly sober, which is not more impressive 😆

@@zippymufo9765you’re correct that punk was aggressive and antisocial, but that was directed at authority and the establishment. punching down and victimising other people wasn’t punk. Rollins has since commented on this incident and clearly regrets the way he acted.

I dont think he was being a prick I think he changed that kids outlook and influenced how he did things going forward and how he approached and talked to people. Rollins made him think vs just giving the usual bs answers.

I've always found Henry Rollins kind of insufferable. Interviews like this are a good example of why. I respect some of his music knowledge but that's about it. When he starts speaking his mind about other topics, I have to tune out.

I used to think Henry schooled this kid until you grow up and realize that punk music is not rock music: it’ll never be like Pink Floyd, Scorpions, Santana, or even the likes of AC/DC and Motörhead 😂 punk music is punk music and is what its meant to be: ugly music. And don’t get me wrong I love ugly music. But it’s better to admit that’s what it is instead of pretending it’s some ground breaking phenomena that no one has dared to take on before. Kid would’ve had a better time interviewing Lemmy or Joey Ramone 🤣🤣🤣

I love how everybody out there is giving Henry grief about this like he’s still the same person that he was then. If anything this is a testament to the growth he’s had since then. This was punk rock. This was the way it used to be. He’s Judd Nelson in the breakfast club. People like that, should they survive long enough, usually become wise people. It would be far more disappointing if he just bent to the status quo.
