Shooting at extended ranges has been the fastest growing trend in hunting, with high-dollar rifles and flatter-shooting calibers getting hyped faster than keys can pound out the news. As the dust settles, though, love them or hate them, long range calibers and the rifles that drive them are dominating the hunting market share. Until now, however, lever actions were left in the dust.
Henry began changing that mindset with the introduction of their Long Ranger rifles in .223, .243, and .308 several years back. Right from the get-go, though, distance hunters begged for one thing - a 6.5 Creedmoor chambering. Henry Repeating Arms has an outstanding track record of listening to their customers, so here we are, with a can full of premium ammunition and brand new rifle ready to find out how the hottest Long Ranger performs.

I didn’t really know that Henry had a lever action in 6.5 creedmoor. I’m very excited to get one. You are one of the better shooter’s I’ve seen on KZfaq and that helped me to make my decision on getting a long ranger.

Yes she is one of the premier reviewers and a shooter. For those of you who were "clambering" for a 6.5 CM , um... Browning BLR has been producing the 81 for some time now in blued with Amerrican walnut and SS with laminate and even have take down models. Sometimes these feel like a Henry ad especially when no one compares these to the Browning. Anyway minor issues . And once again Savage created rifles that handled Spitzer rounds in a lever actions a long long time ago. I am interested in a Long Ranger. But I prefer steel receivers. It is just what I like. Henry has made a few improvements. The one I like the most is the side release button for magazines. The second would be the free floated barrels. Great review once again. Thank you.

Great review. I already have one. I can do sub inch with most ammo and 3/4 inch with a few. The Underwood accubond is the best getting nclose to 1/2 inch along with the ELD 143 grain. The Underwood hits harder. I wouldn’t hesitate a bit, using this Accubond round on northern or Colorado Elk.

Kristin, I appreciate this video. I have been dithering back and forth on whether to get a 6.5 in an AR platform of maybe a bolt gun. Well thanks to you madam, and Gunscom, I'm going to be acquiring a Lever Action 6.5 and most likely a Henry. Great demonstration! Thanks again.

So I received mine in the mail this evening. Quick question. I noticed the magazine rattles quite a bit. There is a lot of movement. If I push the release button it drops right out. Is this normal? All the videos I have noticed showed the button being pushed with one hand and being pulled out with the other and some saying it’s quite stiff. I really don’t like this at all as it doesn’t take much effort to release and possibly lose the Mag in the bush. Plus the noise is a little ridiculous
@shortwavetube7652
@shortwavetube7652 4 жыл бұрын
Maybe the magazine was squeezed together on the sides. Try to open the sides little. This happened on a Remington I own and i simply spread the sides open a little and it fixed the problem or call Henry and they will take good care of you. Also the magazine should fall out when released

@thecowboy6317

Shot placement is the most important thing but at nowadays , with chronical wasting desiase out there, i would stick to duck, turkey, pigeons, waterfowl, hog and fishing. Bear hunting seems fun to but mostly for the skin, according to the bible you shouldn't eat bear meat. Hope I helped, God Bless You, stay safe
@MrCdiver
@MrCdiver 3 жыл бұрын
I know of both taking Elk. .308 can shoot heavier bullets which may be better for Elk at closer ranges (Under 250 Yards) The 6.5 will leave the 308 behind at longer ranges. But neither is really good for elk size animals past 300 yards. They just lose to much energy.
