There will no other artist like Dwight Yoakam. His sound, his look, and stage presence will never be duplicated. My first Dwight Yoakam concert I remember he came out, amps turned to 11, and this same band played about 7 songs before the band stopped and Dwight Yoakam talked to the crowd. I’ve been going to his concerts over 20 years and I’ve never seen the same show twice. As far as his “trance” that is just the way he performs. He almost seems disinterested but it’s all a part of his way, I think, of putting on good show. When he stops and talks to the crowd it’s clear he’s not stoned or drunk (in fact he’s a teetotaler) If you get a chance to go see him live because even at 65 years old he still puts on a helluva show.

Dwight is essentially the most successful Elvis impersonator that has ever lived. Which is really impressive because he sounds nothing like the guy. But hes got the moves. The only thing else I know about him is that women were absolutely ape shit for him. He had bright blue cowboy boots and he always wore the tightest jeans that anybody could ever find anywhere they might have been just paint. And he danced like Elvis in the genre of country where people weren't used to that and he blew the hell up. Not to mention his voice is verifiably phenomenal.

He was born in Kentucky & is now 66 & is 'super' country like Buck Owens & the old guys, with no apologies. He actually acts in movies more than he sings; it seems. His most famous role was in 'Sling Blade' with Billy Bob Thornton. Also, when he dated Sharon Stone, she said kissing him was like kissing a dirt sandwich, whatever that means. LOL ~ Mullets are really coming back much because of a newer country singer named Morgan Wallen. He is huge right now with a ton of hits & he is maybe 30. ~ For a cool song & fun video, check our Blake Shelton's new one called 'No Body'. IN the video, you walk in with short hair & when you get inside, you automatically have a mullet & Blake has one as well. The song is really fun too.

Yup. It's me again. I guess I just like sharing my taste in music with you. It's almost better than money. If you ever get back to the blues again, be sure to partake in Lonnie Johnsons "another night to cry". You've experienced some Albert Collins in your life right? If you haven't, you've got to see "too many dirty dishes" live. There's even a mullet or two in there for the lady.

Woah.. The video starts off with the date of Oct. 23, 1988. That's both Dwight Yoakum and my birthday. Though, this was 3 years before I was born. Edit: Another funny coincidence is that I was going to say that "She Wore Red Dresses" is a cool and kinda dark song by Dwight. I think the live performance video of that was actually from this same night.

His performance here was a bit off, he's usually dancing, he was more reserved here and a bit too close to the mic or something so his vocals were a bit muffled. He's basically the Elvis of country and great on the stage. The Bakersfield sound was basically created from western swing. Some big singers during the dust bowl/depression from Texas and Oklahoma etc, the OG's Bob Wills and Jimmie Rogers and Lefty Frizell headed to California and made people dance. Buck Owens and Dwight put their stamp on it and those two were very close. Dwight has his own sound for sure but he still has that very distinct Kentucky yodel. Quite a few have it. I think that originates back to Ireland/immigrants where they would use that technique during funeral songs and mourning. I'm not completely sure. The Cranberries singer was great at it. I forget what it's called.

This is a perfect 10 song for me, though I'm referring to the studio cut. It's Yoakam at his best. Some other favorites of mine by him are "Honky Tonk Man", "Little Ways", and "The Heart That You Own". His was my first live concert back in 1993 in Amarillo. I saw him again a few years later in Amarillo; I was near the stage and got a guitar pick from Pete Anderson, his lead player (still have it). Around 2001, I caught Yoakam's show a final time when he was appearing with Willie Nelson in Dallas.

Girl you taught me how to hurt real bad and cry myself to sleep You showed me how this town can shatter dreams Another lesson about a naive fool that came to Babylon And found out that the pie don't taste so sweet Now it's guitars, Cadillacs, hillbilly music Lonely, lonely streets that I call home Yeah my guitars, Cadillacs, hillbilly music Is the only thing that keeps me hanging on There ain't no glamour in this tinseled land of lost and wasted lives And painful scars are all that's left of me Oh but thank you girl for teaching me brand new ways to be cruel If I can find my mind now, I guess I'll just leave And it's guitars, Cadillacs, hillbilly music Lonely, lonely streets that I call home Yeah my guitars, Cadillacs, hillbilly music Is the only thing that keeps me hanging on Oh it's guitars, Cadillacs, hillbilly music Lonely, lonely streets that I call home Yeah my guitars, Cadillacs, hillbilly music Is the only thing that keeps me hanging on It's the only thing that keeps me hanging on It's the only thing that keeps me hanging on

I have one or two albums of his, really like him… but I must say, he sounds very nasally here. He sounds so much better in his studio version.
