AGAIN when this was recorded and ALL we had was bulky film / audio recording equipment, we didn't TRIP too much because it was still the first time most people got to see them perform Live on an unprecedented triple album set. I am sure audience weren't too angry when they saw their first Talkie in movie theaters. LOL Anyway my main beef is over those you view this song as purely soft or Siberian Khatru as straightforward. YES rarely did anything simply. There are some serious complex instrumentations happening especially as it builds and intensifies towards the ending and that heavenly crescendo is the ultimate crescendo in all of Prog for all time!

Justin, have you tried listening to "Shiny Happy People", "Stand", etc.? REM ran out of vibe, mood. Monster? Gassed. Long live the Connells.

My favorite singers can sing, but can amp up intensity, which Doug can do. Wailing works on certain songs, but no respect for screamers who wail and yell and cannot sing.

Maybe its more about mood than being in your face with anything. Maybe in your face is overvalued to tone and mood and ambiance.

BTW, you talked about being cool? I stopped being cool in about November of 1993. That's when I first saw the video for November Rain and siad to myself, "I can't do this anymore!" It was aweful! I also didn't have a "favorite song" on the radio. I knew it was over. Classic rock here I come.

Most reactors seem to like EVEYTHING! I wonder if they just didn't post the stuff they really didn't care for? Anyway, we all want validation but a little honesty once in a while doesn't hurt either. Unless it has to do with Deacon Blues or A Man I'll Never Be. Then we have to talk. 🙃

The beginning is intentional, when you have listened to it a few more times, it will make sense. Close to the Edge, without any doubt a true classic. It will still be being played a hundred years time.

You're right about the mix on Ann Wilson's voice at the end is low. It was probably impossible to mix her over the choir so maybe they should have had fewer singers.

5:15 i always loved that buildup here maybe the most of this song. Yessongs was btw. the first album i ever bought myself when i was maybe 14 and the first time to the next big city with my older brother and without my mother. The main reason was at that time mostly that it were like 3 LPs for the same price than 1. But in the end for the next year or so, every day after i returned from school the first thing i did was putting "Close to the edge" on my ancient LP player, lay down on the bed, and listened to it 😍 Btw.: didn't knew there were videos from the concert, also at that point didn't knew that the sound was bad, since i really only had a very ancient mono player 😂

You print some comments by a certain number of dumb ass people, TBH. How dare you, LOL. (Some of it is not even sentences, the English is so bad) People react to music as if it's a science and there are types of music you should and shouldn't like. It's subjective, dumb ass, there is no best, everybody has there own favs and stuff they don't like. And I don't care, you listen to what you want to and I'll do the same. I have to tell you I love that classic console TV, brings back memories. Yes I'm that old.

That you as a reactor gets hate proves one thing: You are doing it right and honest. You should embrace it. As a Queen fan I only listen to a couple of songs on Hot Space. Under Pressure and Life is Real. Other than that I agree, it is pretty boring.

Personally, I think as long as a reactor doesn't disrespect artists and/or their fans, I could care less if they don’t vibe to a particular song or artist. There are plenty of extremely popular songs/artists that don’t send me into musical Nirvana. Keep on keeping it real lol.

Queensrÿche has hardcore fans. I saw the Operation: Mindcrime tour and it was amazing. Suite Sister Mary might have been the wrong song to request and especially out of context. Geoff Tate's vocals and the compositions are really good. I'm a healthcare prof. w/exer science background....Stay fit, strong and healthy; body types just serve to provide baselines for your goals. You've got a great start by taking the jabs, "In Stride."

One of Dolby's best not She Blinded Me With Science that is not what he is about at all. This song was a hit in The U.K. at #48, U.S. Hot 100 #67 and #37 U.S. Rock. I know the lyrics and what they mean too. I love this song great reaction dude! I still love Prog plus the stuff like this too. The Tubes are bad ass as hell prog you should do them and not She's A Beauty lol. Also check out Devo, Tubeway Army/Gary Numan & The Arms/Gary Numan & Band, The Cars, Berlin, Deadsy to start with.

Dude it’s George Straits song. If Stafford was still alive I’m sure he’d say the same thing. After all he probably made a heck of a lot more from the royalties of the George Strait rendition then he ever could have hoped to have nade from his own rendition.

I grew up with the Yessongs version so I have some nostalgic affinity for this version. Yes is one of the few bands I prefer live to the original recordings. But if you want to here a totally crisp, fantastic version of And You and I, I recommend the 2003 Montreaux version. It's fabulous in all respects.

This song is very much a cultural anthem. Most Texans I know always feel a little something when this song plays at the right moment - even if they’re several degrees removed from ranching, rodeo, or this type of music. George Strait did have super broad ‘country’ appeal, but the musical tradition he inhabited (and put his own mark upon for a generation) is for Texas ranching culture kind of like what bluegrass is to Appalachian culture. And all specialized genre’s of music seem to ‘hit’ differently the more exposure you have to people within the culture, or appreciation you have for the culture vs just hearing the musical forms and ideas in abstract
