at this concert every song from the Tarja & Anette eras are kicked up big time for Floor's versions ,which are now hers, they new Floor from her 1st band After Forever touring together, when Tarja was fired the band quietly inquired if Floor was available ,but she was deep into her band at the time, Beste Zangers 2019 is a Dutch tv show filmed on Ibiza, some top Dutch singers past & present get together and sing eachothers songs or songs that hold meaning but re imagined.Beste Zangers is a pivotal event for Floor & hence NW. Floor came aboard mid tour late 2012 when Anette had left due to illness, when Anette threw a fit that the band had brought Floor on they fired her , Tuomas has said that Floor is what they had always been missing.

About Floor joining NW: she was at her sisters wedding in 2012 (Irene Jansen, also a great singer and even taller than Floor) when NW called her and asked her to join. Floor accepted, you can watch the complete story in the documentary “Please learn the setlist in 48 hours”

True. And they know her because she was very well known in the symphonic metal scene when she was in her first band After Forever. This band was one of the best in the genre. I always thought, that she could be the perfect fit if Tarja ever left the band. I’m glad Tuomas thought the same.

Definitely one of my all time favorites. That last minute of Everdream with the continued double bass, is like a runaway steam train with Floor as the conductor and the lads stoking that boiler. Just insane 💥💥💥💥💥

Hi, If you want to know how it all went when Floor joined Nightwish, you need to watch "Please learn the setlist in 48 hours". Short version, Nighwish parted with Annette during a world tour, they needed a singer, so they called Floor, and she said yes. The knew Floor because they toured together for a while, so they knew what she was capable of.

to expand on what marco said, Floor was in the group since 5 month for this Waken performance in 2013 so every songs she sing were writen for Tarja or Annette. I believe they changed and arranged all those songs ever so slightly for Floor but nothing major, It's only on laters albums that Floor capabilities were taken into account by tuomas while writing/composing. From what I read and heard, he pushed her vocal ability prety hard knowing what she was able to do of course ^^ I mean not that hard to imagine you can go a little crazy as a song writer when you know your main singer have very few limitations.:)

Floor joined Nightwish in 2012. Beste Zangers(Best Singers) was in 2019. Floor was in After Forever for 12 years and they opened for Nightwish on one or more tours, so they knew each other. When After Forever broke up, Floor founded Revamp, and she wrote the songs and managed the band as well. This led to a serious case of burnout that lasted for more than a year. She was just getting over it when Nightwish called her (at her sister's wedding). She said yes and had only 48 hours to learn the setlist, pack, and book a flight to Seattle from Amsterdam. She still kept Revamp going until 2016, when she knew it wouldn't work anymore. Clearly Floor is a hard worker as she has sung on a bunch of other people's songs and projects, did a record of rock songs with another fellow(band is Northward), started a youtube channel, and is finishing up a solo project and doing solo shows and Nightwish shows, while raising a daughter with husband Hannes.

Floor’s first band, which she joined as a teenager, was called After Forever. They had a lot of the same fans as Nightwish, and toured Europe opening for Nightwish, so they knew her from way back. In fact when Tarja left, Floor was on Tuomas’ wish list for a replacement, but in the face of all the backlash he was getting from fans for dismissing Tarja, he didn’t want to get them even more angry by breaking up After Forever. When Anette left, Floor was not doing much as she’d experienced a burnout with her second band reVamp, and she was their first choice. As others have said, the documentary “Please Learn the Set List in 48 Hours” is great at telling that story. Floor was on Beste Zangers ( Best Singers) just a couple of years ago.

Nightwish headlined at Wacken 2013 and also played 2018. Too-ohmas. Yes, Nightwish tunes to D and D is one of Floor's strongest keys. The 2 records with Annette have some of my favorite Nightwish songs. Floor just takes it to another level. Yes, Beste Zangers (Best Singers) was the show that launched Floor's solo career. Beste Zangers is not a competition like our stupid shows in the US. It is simply 7 Dutch singers from different genres who spend time together getting to know each others music and tastes in music (2 weeks in Ibiza Spain). Then each show one singer sits in the middle on the couch and the other 6 singers pay tribute by singing for them. They perform one of the honor singers own songs or one that in some way influenced their career. This makes for an extremely emotional and fun concept for a show. Floor just did another one of these TV shows called, "Sing Meinen Song". This one was in Germany and I can't wait to get some videos to check out.

Nightwish knew her from her After Forever days. They had toured together in the early 2000's so the band was very familiar with what she could do. When Tarja was fired they considered asking her but didn't want to break up After Forever as they were starting to breakout. When Anette got sick during the North American part of the tour (see the Denver Debacle) they called Floor asked if she could fill in. Floor had just recovered from a burnout with her band ReVamp. She had 48 hours to fly to the states and learn the setlist before performing in Seattle. Shortly after Anette was let go over a dispute about Floor filling in later in the tour at the end of Anette's pregnancy (Anette said no). Over the 10 months they toured together they slowly changed some of the Tarja and Anette songs to fit Floor's voice, the end of Ghost Love Score being one of the most famous (there is a nice video on YT that shows the evolution of the end of the song from when she joined the band till now). Endless Forms Most Beautiful was the first album with songs written for Floor's voice (Wembley and Tampere concerts are from that album's tour). Best Zangers is Dutch for Best Singers. It is a singing show where a number of popular Dutch singers are gathered together and each week one singer is put in the spotlight and the other singers sing one of their songs or a song that is meaningful to the spotlight singer. Wacken Open Air was 2013 and Beste Zangers was in 2019. Prior to the show Floor was not well known in her native Netherlands but really become famous after the show. You should try another song from the show, Lady Gaga's Shallow. Even if it gets blocked you should see it. Just breathtaking and totally tops the original.

Tuomas Holopainen (pron: TOO-oh-Moss) has adjusted his songwriting for all three female lead vocalists. Since Floor was with another band that opened for Nightwish about 2002, Tuomas has always had Floor in mind to sing his songs. Also realizing she had the ability to embrace and adapt his older material to her voice. She was the first choice, as far as rumors go, after Tarja, but Floor was in another band at the time. When Anette got sick on tour, Floor, luckily, was available...and history was made!

The Best Singers is a Dutch TV show. Where Dutch singers sing for each other. The one in the middle of the couch is then sung for by all the singers. It's not a competition. Here in the Netherlands it is a famous program.

Tuomas has always worked with the singers vocals being front and centre in his mind, what you need to remember is that all of the songs Floor sings here were already written before she was a part of the Band. It was 2 years after Wacken where Floor got her Debut Nightwish album to sing on.

Let him keep his muse and continue writing good pieces of music for every one's enjoynment. Unnecessary speculation won't carry us too far. Waste of energy. The amount of songs, ideas, tunes what's thrown in the thrash can is Immense, what I have heard which only tells he needs to struggle what goes on record and what not.... Keep on rockin with this magical band and take it easy.

Beste Zangers (Best Singers) has great concept. Gather 7 singers from 7 genres of music (metal, opera, pop, latin...) and each week one singer sits on the couch, gets interviewed and other singers sing the main one's songs, out of their comfort zones. So Floor did nonmetal songs in 4 languages and showed the world what class is. Floor was in 2019 season and she was mostly unknown in her own country (while the rest of the world knows) by then. After, well...

Floor was 16 when she was in the band After forever and they have toured with Nightwish then with Revamp her second band Floor has sung with Nightwish and their first singer Tarja so they are very fimiliar about Floor's abilities. The Beste Zangers ( Best Singers ) is a group of Artists get together at a resort each night one would sit down while each of them will sing a song to that person. This could be one of there favourite artists songs or one of their own songs or one that brings back fond memories. Example Henk port was the one they perform too and Floor got up and not only sung a song to Henk that his mother sung to him as a child but she sings it in his language German. Another is when Emma's turn Floor sung a Lady Gaga song that's Emma's favorite Shallow which in the Lyrics Floor purposely says tell me something girl twice as she was singing to Emma. It's a great show and cool concept that should be adopted in the States.

Floor has said that this song is one of the more challenging for her to sing. Tuomas does consider the skillset of the singer when writing. This was a Tarja era song. Floor can sing all the styles, and she adds to the originals and makes them her own. Her previous bands were After Forever and Revamp. You watched Floor's version of Phantom of the Opera from Beste Zengers (which was 2019). Have you seen the Nightwish version of that song? It's from the 2005 End of an Era show with Tarja and Marko on vocals.

In three different interviews Floor, Emppu and Troy "complained" that Tuomas does not write for the people he has around him but the people they could be. All 3 where at a point where they argued with him that they can't do what he wanted and he always just said "you can do it, I believe in you" and it always worked out. So he does not only consider who is playing/singing his stuff but also constantly pushes them to grow as an artist.

NW already wanted Floor back in 2005 when Tarja was booted out, but Floor still had her own band After Forever (check them out!). They toured together with NW in 2002 if I remember correctly. From that time on, Floor & Tarja have been friends up 'till today (there's a recent Tarja chat stream here on YT with the both of them). Anyhew, After Forever disbanded 2009, Floor started a new band called ReVamp (check them out!!!) and when Tuomas called her on the phone when she was at her sister Irene's wedding in 2012 she was still with ReVamp (until 2016). She had been fronting a metal band (AF) since 1997, inspired by the great Anneke van Giersbergen (originator of the 'smile metal' genre), who also inspired Simone Simons (Epica!). The band that Anneke joined in 1995, The Gathering, started in 1989 and was mentioned by Tuomas Holopainen as an inspiration to start his own band. The rest is history ;) Cheers from Amsterdam

" Ever Dream " is the sixth single by Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish. Released as the first single from the band's fourth studio album, Century Child, it was the group's first single in two years, following " Deep Silent Complete " in 2000. The song is more operatic in nature than later works and the music itself is more on the heavy metal side. It is still played live since 2002 until today. "Ever Dream" was certified with Gold Disc in Finland two days after its release, with more than 5,000 copies sold, and later received Platinum Disc with more than 10,000 copies sold.

Some good questions and here are some answers. Floor joined the symphonic metal band After Forever in 1996 when she was only 16. She studied music at the rock academy and also studied musical theatre and opera. Technically she is one of the best singers there is and throughout her career she has always experimented with her vocals and she seamlessly can switch her vocal styles within a song and even within a sentence. In 2002 After Forever toured with Nightwish and that's when they met. When After Forever was disbanded in 2009 Floor started a new band called ReVamp, which was more thrash metal and during this time Floor experimented with harsher vocal styles. October 2012 she joined Nightwish mid tour to replace the previous singer. The Wacken '13 show takes place 10 months after she joined the band, so all the songs were still written for previous singers. Not really a problem for Floor because she can sing anything. At this time she was asked to join Nightwish officially, which she accepted, it just wasn't made public at the time until later in 2013. After completing the Nightwish tour Floor did another tour with ReVamp, however in 2016 ReVamp officially disbanded. Mostly because Floor could not combine Nightwish with ReVamp. Floor has been the frontwoman of Nightwish ever since. Throughout her career she did several sideprojects and guest appearances. She is a regular artist of Ayreon and Star One, both projects of Arjen Lucassen. In 2008 she worked on a rock album with Jorn Viggo Lofstad (Pagan's Mind), but not wanting to release a rock album right around the time her metal band was disbanded they postponed the project. It wasn't till 2018 the album was finished and released under the bandname Northward. She also made guest appearances/vocals with Epica, Ever Grey, Soilwork, Sabaton, and others... Beste Zangers (Best Singers) is a dutch tv show that brings together singers in a non competitive environment and is more a celebration of music inspired by and for the participants. Floor was in the 2019 edition and following her success on Beste Zangers she did a solo tour in the Netherlands with a bit more mellowed versions of songs from her entire catalogue. This concert was filmed in September 2021 and you can find this on her KZfaq channel. During the pandemic she recorded several covers from Disney's 'Let it Go' (for her daughter) to Alone from Heart, also on her channel. April 2022 she will participate in a German tv show, a variant of Beste Zangers, called Sing Meinen Song (Sing My Song). Last month she released her first ever solo single called Fire and the solo album will be expected early 2023. Currently she has started the delayed Nightwish Human :II: Nature world tour.

Every song at this concert is written for Tarja and Annette. Floor nails all 15. Floor was on Beste Zangers in 2019. She joined Nightwish in late 2012. She had toured in her previous band After Forever(1997-2009) with Nightwish. And Tuomas considered her after Tarja but she was already busy. Very little of Annette live and possibly two songs which she performs okay. Studio recording much better than live. But when you get to The Poet and the Pendulum only Wembley 2015 with Floor is how it should be performed.

To make it easy for you, Floor had joined the band (trial period) ten months prior (fall of 2012) to this venue, so it's a pretty good bet, nothing was written with Floor in mind at this point. She participated on Beste Zangers in 2019. Members of NW were familiar with previous bands Floor has been in and in 2012 she was unemployed when the position opened up after Annette was fired. Beste Zangers is based around the idea of gathering a small group of Dutch singers from different genres. Each week one of them acts as 'guest' and the other performers sing songs th that have meaning to the guest. No judging. Marcel Fisser band backs the singers. Fisser also has backed Floor's solo projects in the subsequent years. She performed a solo of Shallow, Vija Lied, and brought her peers to tears with I Don't Know About Love. it's where I was introduced to her which was the same for most of the group she participated with. She just was not that well known in her home country.

All the songs in the Wacken 2013 show were all written before Floor joined about 10 months earlier, on the other hand several of the songs from the Wembley 2015 show are from her first album with the band, so written with her in mind. Beste zangers is later then the Wacken consert. Its a TV show in the Netherlands with different singers that sings important songs from the other artists. So the song Mama she did for example was the blond girls originally. They had one show each that the other sings just for you.

Floor’s band After Forever opened for Nightwish in Tarja’s day, that was way back b4 ‘05, & how they became friends. Tuomas always wanted her, but she had just started ReVamp, when they fired Tarja, so that wasn’t an option. In this concert she is singing the other singers songs, & she she shows she can do it all better, & he can write ANYTHING, & she can present it at it’s best, hence his masterpiece, “Greatest Show”!

Ever Dream is one of their quieter tracks yet with so much energy. A good contrast to their harder tracks :-) Much of the music was written for Tarja, but she is also trained supran.

Floor lost the nose ring when she had her daughter. Little kids love pull tabs (~_^) Floor had played festivals with her old band After Forever and then Revamp where NW had also played and Tuomas et al knew her, and she was supposedly considered as a replacement for Tarja, but they knew she was tied into her then current band, so they didn't ask her (and she then had burnout, so she did little of nothing for 2 years or so, dealing with that), and they went with Annette. Then, literally as Floor was recovering from her burnout, she got a text from Tuomas while she was standing in her sister's wedding, so she gave him a convenient time to call after the ceremony, and immediately said "YES!". She has said a week or two earlier, and she would not have been physically able to sing for them. So she flew to the US for their Seattle show, listening to the songs on an iPod and reading lyrics to learn them, and 48 hours after being called, performed her first show with them.

He has changed up for Floor. He writes each album that best brings out the vocals. She was with Nightwish when she was on Beste Zangers dutch for best singers. She was in her band After Forever she got call from them, she said yes. You need to watch learn the setlist in 48 hours, that's how much time she had before showtime, the rest is history. Beste Zangers (best singers) was from 2019 so 7 years after she joined Nightwish. It is a Dutch TV programme for prominent Dutch singers of all genres where one of them doesn't have to sing one week and the rest of them sing something that is either the listener's song or something close to their heart. All of Floor's songs were excellent, including 'Shallow' and other songs less well known such as 'Mama' - very emotional. Also a song she sung in Spanish. It's got far more class than those Simon Cowell programmes as it is NOT a contest - the performers who are being performed to decide at the end of the show, which singer/song they preferred so definitely NOT a tacky contest ! If you have a break in the middle of a Beste Zangers song, I'm pretty sure it won't be blocked! Looking forward to more, take good care of yourselves 😃

Most of the songs played at this concert were written for the first two singers, so Floor is making them her own now. My top five are; Opening song 'Dark Chest of Wonders'(very very up-tempo). Song Of Myself(Second half of it the audience is headbanging like the band lol). Beste Zangers is Best Singers in Dutch, a great program for singers singing to each other. IOW there is no competition like Simon Cowell's shows. Floor wanted to be on the show b/c her idol since she was 12 years old was the Dutch Phantom Henk Poort. Floor started taking Opera/Classical lessons b/c of Henk. They sang 'Phantom of the Opera' on Beste Zangers. I strongly suggest you watch the whole 2018 Ibiza program b/c it gets quite emotional at times, and the Marcel Fisser backup band is phenomenal!! Ever Dream is a song from their 2002 studio album Century Child. In 2002 After Forever was their support act for some European concerts. They know Floor from that era because she was the lead singer of After Forever. There's no need to have any concerns about the ability of Floor to sing the songs Tuomas writes. Not now, not back then. Whatever he thinks of, he trusts Floor wil find a solution. And Floor likes to be challenged. BTW: This Wacken concert is from August 2013, way before she participated in the Beste Zangers 2019 TV show. There aren't any judges at the Beste Zangers show. They are all singers (even the TV host is). It's a TV format in which each week a different singer is in the spotlight, and when the other singers perform a song to that highlighted artist which he / she originally performed, or which is meaningful to him / her. In the last show of each season they perform a duet with an artist of their choice. Over the years it lead to some surprising performances. Like a singer with a Turkish background singing a Dutch rock song (in a dialect from an eastern part of the Netherlands), or an opera singer doing a rap song. It's fun, often also emotional and a celebration to music.

Great Reaction Again! You were talking about the show Beste Zangers, which was in 2019. You really should try another song from that show. It was not a competition, just Dutch singers singing songs to each other. On the first night of the show Floor was the first singer and she sang Vilja Lied, an Opera song to Henk Poort, whose mother used to sing the song to him when he was a little boy. Only one person there had heard her sing. All they knew was she was a singer in a metal band and she blew them away. Don't watch the official video by Avrotos. There are video's out there where they show the conversation they have on the couch's before the people get up and sing. They usually have (English Subtitles) in the title of the video. One person who has some of those is a KZfaqr called Jenniezelf. You get alot of info through their conversations on the couch then from the official video and it might not get blocked. Still loving those pits!

Floor is comfortable singing all the past songs as she can do the operatic like Tarja, and easily songs written during Annette, as Floor can also sing the operatic backing tracks used which Annette could not sing. She has made subtle changes to give the older songs her own style. :) Since Floor joined, Tuomas has carte Blanche to write anything, and really challenged her with the last album lol. You can react to the video "Please learn the setlist in 48 hours" for Floors story of joining Nightwish. She joined during their world tour in 2012. The Beste Zangers show was in 2019. You can still react to it, but put a blurred filter or something over most or all of the video so we cannot see it all; seems to work for other reactors. We don't mind ;) The show premis is a group of singers from many different genres get together in an intimate setting. Each week, one is featured and the others all sing their music or songs they feel would be special to them. Floor killed every song, sang in 4 languages, and blew everyone away, including most of the Dutch people who did not really know about her. Metal is not big in the Netherlands. She was so popular, many of her covers hit the charts and the really good band from the show has toured Holland with her a few times since. She also has awesome covers on her KZfaq channel you guys could react to, which she did to keep her voice in shape during covid lockdowns. :) A quick wiki search will give you her past bands in which she released many albums. Tuomas (TOO’-oh-mas) does take into account the vocalist that will be singing. All the songs in the Wacken 2013 show written for a singer other than Floor. He expanded his compositional capabilities when he chose a singer with a different style, with Anette. He wrote some great songs on those two albums that were very different from their Tarja songs. Floor is talented enough to sing all of their songs. Tuomas was familiar with Floor from several years before as her first band, After Forever, had played with Nightwish on a few occasions. There was speculation that Tuomas wanted Floor to replace Tarja, but she was still with Forever After, who she had been with since she was 16. Nightwish has played Wacken Open Air 6 times, twice with Floor. I believe everything you’ve seen was from the 2013 show. Tuomas asked Floor if she would fill in on short notice when Nightwish was touring the US in 2012. She was in Europe at the time. Floor’s 1st band was After Forever (great band!) They splitted, so Floor formed a new band called Revamp (not as great as AF but very cool) After a while she got a burn out and stopped performing. At her sister’s wedding Nightwish contacted her asking in she could inmediatly join them to finish their tour. They knew each other because AF toured with NW previously. Beste Zangers is the same as Best Singers. Not a competition, more fellow artists singing each others songs or favorite songs. Floor was part to fhe show in 2019. You may find it incredible, but before that show, Floor was pretty unknown in the Netherland - where she comes from. That is because, like may other places, Heavy Metal is never played on the radio or tv shows. All of the sudden, people (incl. some of the artists participating) discovered Floor and her unmatched versatility - from opera/operette à la Floor (Vilja Lied, Phantom of the Opera) to pop rock (Shallow from Lady Gaga) to spanish (Que Se Siente) with more. And they were blown away. Now, Floor is going to be in a similar german program starting shortly. No song in this concert was written for Floors voice. This concert was from 2013. The Series you are talking about is Best Zangers, from 2019. 6 or 7 singers are picked to sing for each other. One singer is picked and the others sing a song that they feel is important to that person. The longer BZ videos have more dialog from the one in the hot seat and the others who will be singing. You get a more insightful understanding of why they picked the songs they highlight.

I'm not sure if Tuomas is pronounced Too-Womas or Too-Wahmas. I hear both regularly. If you want to see the first days of Floor with Nightwish, you can check out "Learn the Set List in 48 hours" which is what was asked of her. She got thrown into the fire mid tour. Floor was in a couple of bands before Nightwish, called After Forever and Revamp, both of which had decent notoriety in the metal community.

Okay, watched some more of this video. Beste zangers would translate as best singers. It was not a competition, it is singers singing other singers songs. Maybe changed the song a little to suite their genre. There was also a part in doing duets. Floor is a big fan of Henk Poort since she was a child. So her dream was to sing the Phantom with Henk. Floor was already in Nightwish when beste zangers was recorded. But funny enough, Floor was not well known to the general audience in the Netherlands. This program was her big break through in the Netherlands, now everyone knows her talent and how good she is (finally).

Here again a short biography of our 1.83 tall Dutch Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen. She joined the band 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. "Who's Anette again?" Lmao You're terrible. 😁 Ever Dream was written for Tarja. Floor's band and Nightwish had performed together a number of times back in the day, as Floor has admitted. So it's safe to say that they knew about each other prior to Floor getting that call in September 2012, so Tuomas knew what he was getting when he asked her for that favor. And as Floor said a few times already, Ghost Love Score has been her favorite Nightwish song to sing, even before joining the band. She admits singing along at shows when they played together and freestyling towards the end of the song which is something she enjoyed doing. That same feeling to freestyle is what actually made the ending to GLS as famous as it is today. She did it during rehearsals before a show in Colombia and the band thought it sounded really good so they said she should try it in the show that night. The BESTE ZANGERS is a Dutch TV show in Netherlands. It means best singers. Tuomas's name is pronounced as TU-WOH-MUHS, not the American way like Thomas.

Check out this awesome documentary about Nightwish. When they parted ways with Anette and Floor joined the band in the middle of the tour. Floor flew out from Europe to the middle of the US to join the band on tour. She had two days to learn the setlist before performing with the band for the first time ever. Annette has a BEAUTIFUL voice and she is a wonderful vocalist. The issue with her is, her voice and range just wasn't a good fit for their Tarja Era songs. She struggled alot with those but she could sing all of the songs Tuomas wrote for the two albums she sang on. I recommend you listen to "Slow Love Slow," "Meadows Of Heaven" and "Turn Loose The Mermaids." They are beautiful songs that really showcase her vocals.

No, she got noticed by her band ReVamp Beste Zangers is a holland TV show that was after Nightwish, Nightwish is huge in Europe like so huge hated in NA I have heard even people utter death threats to the band after hearing them really seriously. But this song was written for Tarja the best singer ever really she has the highest register of any singer ever really, why the band got my attention even really Tuomas is good still but he is gonna get eaten up by a new girl who is better educated and is really really good and hits a higher register than Tarja sort of I guess not in Octave but is a pure Soprano. So yeah triple-threat songwriter composer, songwriter/opera writer, soprano singer/black metal/death growls.

Anette was definitely a different type of singer, that worked well in the studio, but (edit typo)live was not her strong point. She had some good songs though. Check out the original clip of amaranth. While I like most of Floors versions better, I think I have to give that one to Anette.

"cool"... That's probably one of the shortest and simplest initial responses so far a reactor has given to this video, as it is one of the songs with the biggest strain on Floor's voice. Oh well... BTW, "Zanger" is Dutch for "Singer", so it translates to Best Singers. A tv show where singers just get together and talk about the songs they are singing in that show. A concept totally incomprehensible to Americans where every TV singing needs to be a competition.
