I defy you not to have that song going through your head by the end of this video! Ha ha!
I mentioned my Favourite Things in last week's video but then didn't tell you any! So here I make up for that with a colourful mind map to help me!
I mention The Knitting Squirrel every time we see the Mitred Square Blanket, but there are many places you can find a pattern, search here or on Pinterest or indeed, anywhere and you will find this easy pattern. It is very addictive and uses lots of your odds and ends of yarn.
The weaving I did a couple of years ago is linked at the end of the video. I didn't get on with the darning, but tidied my shed out instead!
Always in the shop are the books, cards, badges, (pins) and virtual downloads, with the new shop product coming next week. Sign up to the Mailing List for your chance to win the new product!
www.thelasthomelyhouse.co.uk/
This video is sponsored by my PATRONS
The little clip of film from the Northumberland Coast was taken by my daughter in law Anna and features my son John making his monthly video for my Patrons
/ thelasthomelyhouse
I think it is the best video ever to be made for Patreon and here at The Last Homely House - I considered hanging up my hat and passing the baton to Anna - I wanted to become a patron after seeing it! Which is just silly, because it is my channel! ha ha! But I have watched it about 8 times and will watch it again. Best thing she has ever made! Thank you Anna and John (and Frank!)
The music is called 'In Pursuit of Happiness' from epidemic sound and is just about perfect for today's content I think.
Don't worry that you didn't see Norma. She is sitting on the keyboard as I write this and I am trying to find the keys around her furry body! (really!)
Take care
Kate

I took a very early retirement 4 years ago when I was 60 years old. I love to wake up in the morning without the alarm clock. I love the long lazy days without any stress. I spend my days making quilts, reading and biking around in the town, just enjoying slow living.

I’m retiring June 1 and can’t wait to be done with a 10 hour schedule and start some of the crafts I’ve been learning from your videos. We’ve sold our large house and are buying a smaller one in the country. That’s a statement I’ve always stated! I spent about ten years going to technical college doing numerous courses. I love learning new things all the time but I think the best has been learning to make quilts! As there are so many ways to construct patterns and all the different colour combinations it is a never ending learning curve. I’m 74 and hope to be learning for many many more years to come. And of course KZfaq is a wealth of information about everything you could possibly want to know and I use it almost daily. Thank you Kate for your contribution to KZfaq, it’s an absolute pleasure to spend time on the lime green sofa watching and listening to you, plus learning from you. ❤😊🐝🐓🐈‍⬛😻🧶🪡🧵🍀

Attitude of gratitude; knowing yourself and accepting and loving yourself without trying to be someone you are not; finding friends who accept you for who you are. I can identify with so many of the comments below that I am sure the group of us (when safe) would enjoying sitting in your pavillion keeping our hands busy in our favourite way and listening to your stories. I too was a thrower, but thanks to Arne & Carlos, have mostly converted to their "Norwegian knitting style", although it's nice to have both methods in your bag of skills. When you are determined to learn something, with time and patience, you can. I think your idea of making a map of your favourite things is great. Your woven scarf is beautiful -- I think it would be worth the effort to try and match the yarn -- perhaps we can all send you odds and sods of yarn we think might match. One of my favourite things is sitting with my knitting and watching your youtube video on Sundays. It feels like a community of like minds. Loved the story of your father escaping the party to watch the hens.

Hi Kate, for your scarf instead of darning you could try embroidery. A vine with strategically placed flowers over the holes or a pattern taken from your coat and placed randomly on the scarf. Thank you for your chats.

Retirement provided so much-I don’t have to stop doing whatever I’m doing if I don’t want to, I don’t get all upset by the weather if it rains or snows on my days off because there are no “days off” anymore and I can wait for the weather to change, there’s time for just about anything that I want to do, so no more having to cram all things into short intervals of time, I can take breaks and not feel pressured, I suppose its the gift of your own time! My advice is to stay as healthy as you possibly can, because you’ll need mobility and energy more than ever when you do retire. And when you do, revel in it, you’ve earned it!

I believe that keeping a running mind map of things that we love and enjoy is a great way to not only boost morale, but to help us to be mindful of all that brings gratitude. Keep it somewhere visible, and always add to it when things come to mind. Even if you're having a good day, seeing all of the things that you enjoy written out can make it even better. Knitting , sewing, and walking my two dogs, and living on a farm with the birth of calves each spring. Have you seen “ Natasha makes”;on you tube. She is on, on, Monday Tuesday and wednesdays, she sews a lot with kaffee fabric, and sells it also . She did a interview over the Easter with kaffee , and two other men that work with him,it was interesting, a perfect one to listen to as you sew with his fabric.

Oh gosh, so many similarities, Kate ('cept I've never attempted weaving or spinning, having a 6th sense that told me it'd be a tad slow for impatient me!) But .... making rag rugs is a passion (listening to British plays on the internet) manipulating recycled fabric into 'stuff', my cats, music, walking on the beach, living by the sea, proper coffee in a cafe with a friend, libraries, making compost, growing vegies and enough flowers for the house, the Internet - computer word games (yes, there's an addiction right there!) And SO true, waking up with a blank slate & a big mug of tea in bed is fanTAStic, my fave time of day with my 'appreciation' notebook ... oh yes, and opening goodies from your shop from time to time! LOVING the badges, which have been handed out to lots of creative people around the place, squeal of delight from a chicken loving friend and a beekeeper :) Nearly forgot - your videos, of course, guaranteed to spark a bit of creativity ♥♥♥

One of my favourite things these days is definitely your channel. :-) It's been such a joy this past year. I also enjoy crafts, yes... I am often knitting with your videos on, and this one got me through three and a half rows of my patterned Moravian-Wallachian socks. Made of wool, which is another of my favourite things. :D Blue-and-white onion pattern china (just looking at my mug sitting at my hand). I’ll probably add to this as we go but I moved away from London a few years ago and came to live in Kettering. I have my family here and I love it. So my first favourite thing is spending time with my family, three generations of happy, funny people. Wherever they, we, are there is laughter and I feel so lucky to have been able to centre myself here with them. In Northamptonshire we have a lot of red kites - raptors. You can see them high in the sky and they are beautiful. Yesterday I was in my sister’s garden, and a kite flew down low, I suspect to check what we were eating and whether there was anything for him :-). We could see his beautiful markings and how large and powerful he is. I love watching kites and birds of all kinds. I also really understand your idea of having a completely free day or two. Time to find yourself and just relax is in very short supply. I am just coming up to retirement myself, and having worked hard for 40 years in education, I am looking forward to trying something different that involves more creativity, freedom and time for thought. Thanks for this great vlog, Kate, I love hearing all about you and your cats and family.

I said and still say what ever the blank I want and when ever I want to. I, like you, always have something in my hand to work on and love it. Love getting up when I want and going to bed when I want. I also like not being responsible for anything but me and my pets. I know exactly what you and your dad mean when talking about social functions. I too have always hated them. When I was younger I used to live in Hebden Bridge and would be persuaded to go out for a drink with friends to the pub. After a time I would always feel like I had had enough and would quietly dissapear off into the night. ( I found it easier to leave without saying anything as if I did say I was going there would be some friends who would try to persuade me to stay longer) As a result my nickname became "Urban Fox"

Applicating would still make this a useful scarf to go with your coat and maybe add some pops of color. Also have trouble with mothes. I'm thinking of getting some pheromone traps to set around closets and storage areas. They seem to be safe for animals and things may start trying to use those maybe a suggestion for you too with all your fabric and yarn. I found them on Amazon after being referred for pantry moths. I don't know haven't tried it yet seems like the pantry moth one works pretty well. Now on to the closet
