I just bought a used 2017 TRD Sport. It’s the executive edition with sun roof, JBL sound system that sounds amazing and I was thinking of installing a super Charger so this video just answered some questions I had about slapping one on mine. It’s an awesome truck so far it only had 27,000 miles so it was a low mileage vehicle. The only complaint I have about it is how loud the direct injection is on it. If Toyota would have insulated the hood the noise would have been less but besides that it’s a great truck…

I had a CJ for twenty years. Loved it. Decided to "upgrade" to a used 05 Rubicon one previous owner with only 20,000 miles--a very well taken care of Jeep. After a few years, but very few miles, I started having computer/electronics problems. It was at the local Dodge dealer for months. The dealer owners contacted me. They also owned a Toyota dealership and as an extension of good faith gave me 10K on a Jeep they couldn't fix and I then became the proud owner of a 2019 Tacoma 4x4. Toyota is now my brand.

Yeah I bought a 2021 TRD off road this past weekend and it was a nightmare. Most dealerships were not letting people put down payments on ones in transit to hold them for some unknown reason, so it was a first come first serve situation. And they sold the second they hit the lot. In fact last Saturday I actually had a salesman who I had given my contact info to call me to say one arrived that morning, and he put me on hold to go set aside the keys. I was already in the process of driving there. After 10 minutes on hold he picked up the phone to say sorry it is sold. I was like “wtf man, you called ME here”. Ultimately, I had to drive 130 miles and multiple cities over to get mine. And of course there’s no haggling on price due to the shortage. The dealer said I was the third person that week who came from 100+ miles away. The dealership was in a poorer area where the locals couldn’t afford a TRD off road, that was the only reason it sat on the lot for more than 30 minutes

Tacoma's are GREAT and I am REALLY starting to like the look of that new 2022 Nissan Frontier too! I can't wait to see and drive the latest upgraded versions of these Toyota and Nissan medium-sized trucks! As other posters have found, out most of these medium sized these trucks are NOT designed for a Big and Tall person! You will feel quite constrained. If you are over 6'1" (185 cm) and over 220 lbs (99 KG). You are going to feel squished! The ONLY MEDIUM SIZED TRUCK that doesn't make me feel squished out of the factory is the Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison Edition because for some reason it's SEATS seem lower, more streamlined and more adjustable than the normal Colorado. That extra 1.5 inches to 2 inches of head and leg room make ALL the difference! I just rack the seats low and right back and I can properly fit into the Chevy ZR2 Bison. In the Tacoma, it took my friend changing out his seats to RACAROs and add a seat movement extender rails (he too is large) before I could properly fit into the Tacoma. For plain old 4x4'ing, the Tacoma is actually a pretty good deal. It will keep its resale value even when bought used and it's actually a VERY CAPABLE off-roader if you put good M/T tires on it! For any fisherman, hunter and/or off-road boondocker/overlander, ANY Tacoma starting from 2010 onwards now has EVERYTHING you could need as a base to do proper 4x4 long-range off-road. As in almost ALL my posts, I highly suggest putting an extra in-bed fuel tank to double your range OR AT LEAST buy TWO 20 Gallon Jerry Cans to let you go really deep into the remote backwoods where the best fishing/hunting/hiking/camping is! If you can find one, GET THE TRD Extreme/ or T/X Baja edition from 2011 to 2014 with the really beefy springs and shocks. It was basically off-road rally-ready right out of the box! Of course, ANY TRD Pro version from 2015 (when it first started) is going to be an IDEAL boondocker/overlander vehicle! The FIRST THING you need to do when you get a used Tacoma, if it doesn't already have it, is to get a 2 inch or 4 inch lift, new and larger M/T tires, an in-bed extra fuel tank and a bed-attached roll-bar to hold some high-lumens LED light bars and multiple Go-Pro cameras point front, back and sides attached to an in-cabin 12 inch tablet so you can see all-around you during your off-road driving! Now you are TRULY off-road/boondocking/overlanding ready! v

The truck is made for people 5’10” and below. At 6’, I can’t sit in the back seat with my head against the head rest but I still love it because there’s so wasted interior space, it can do wonders off-road, and can haul all my gear. The Pedal Commander helps to with responsiveness. I wish there was a smiles per mile mode.

If you are buying this specific model Tacoma, the first thing you do is TAKE OUT the back seats and put in a big storage box for your 100 litre (25 gallon) slidout-combo fridge/freezer, your toolbox, a portable propane or solar generator and your fishing tackle and/or hunting gear! I always found the back seats to be a total waste of space in any truck BUT the extra back-seat area is GREAT for extra secured and weatherproof storage once the seats are taken out! I do that even on the Crew-Cab F-150's -- You take out the back seats and put in MASSIVE slide-out storage system for hiding/securing all your toys and gear! v

Including while towing my 27’, 4,500-5,600 lbs max travel trailer, that I’ve towed all over the South East, from Key West, FL, to Pigeon Forge, TN all through The Smokey Mountains, I’ve been able to maintain legal speed limits on all roads and grades, all while just feathering the gas pedal, without Tow/Haul mode with the trans temp never going over 190 degrees! On the longest Interstate grade I can cruise up at 65 mph, at approx 3,500 rpm’s in 5th gear while feathering the pedal.

After reading comments, I would say this truck owner is happy with his upgrades he’s had done. After all, it his choice how and where he wishes to spend his money. My next door neighbor will blow a $78,000 custom engine in 6 seconds on the track. Big deal he says, thats racing. I’d say its typical American Car culture to spend lots and lots of $$$ on whatever blows our skirts up... As said so often, if it makes you happy then its all good. Due to this channel covering the GMC AT4 Canyon I bought that truck. After traveling 11 states towing a teardrop trailer with all our gear in the bed I’ve fall’n in love with my truck. So much so my wife has mentioned we should consider selling her Highlander and making the GMC our only vehicle. Would I consider a super charger in the future? Sure I would. We loved exploring small communities having one lane roads with little worry about being oversized when facing ranch owners/employees F-350’s F-450’s with large stock trailers. The only mod I’ve done so far is remove the air dam. Now I’m thinking of super charging my truck after watching this well done video. Stock hight is perfect for this old boy, better shocks are in my future. Cheers! Gary B.

Just a heads up, my mechanic whose shop builds up Toyota trucks, says that the new generation of Tacomas and Tundras are made with parts sourced from China. Their parts used to be sourced from Japan. They’re still assembled in Japan, but no longer with mostly Japanese parts. Apparently they’re already having big problems indicative of quality control issues such as inconsistent parts machining. I’ll hold on to my ‘06 4Runner V8 for as long as I can.

I have this exact truck, but in stock form. I've always had Toyotas. I'm not a fan of this engine at all. It has NO low end torque and you have to rev it up and slip the clutch like crazy to be able to tow or crawl. It's made to run at high RPM. I had a 2014 FJ with the 4.0L and it was better for towing. If you drive it hard, it's a great set up. If you rock crawl or tow, it could be a lot better. I feel a supercharger would just compound the problem.

Roots style super chargers are'nt turned off and on, unless this has some computer controlled clutch on the pulley. When the engine runs the pulleys turn the impellers in the SC. So, not having extra power in first gear seems like somethings amis. Typically, unless its a centrifigul type blower, you should feel lots of extra power thru the whole power curve, but definitley down low in fisrt ear.
