Please don't think you are the only one who has this struggle. Apart from the cancer diagnoses , l could have written your word to a tee. That is my struggle also. Satan lies to us and grabs hold of the weaknesses we feel. Jesus has triumphed though. And Jesus understands and knows your struggle and loves you completely. Hi. Take it one moment at a time. My mom has been so sick with intestinal problems for years and the cause was 30 years of smoking, damage was gradual but almost killed her last fall. She has a nicotine patch which completely covers that part but she's really struggling with the "habit". Check with your doctor for any medication that is available for you. There are a few that make you really sick, vomiting but not deadly, but bad enough that your brain begins to associate "feeling soooo sick" with smoking. That will give you the Desire you need to quit and walk away. One other idea for negative reinforcement is googling pictures of lungs or other medical conditions associated with them. Gross but effective. The pictures or videos of people so very sick are heartbreaking and would give anything to have the chance to stop and live. The stories also help you feel like you are not alone. You are going to have to seek support, there are so many support groups online that have someone chatting at most hours. I never read or write comments but I want you to know that what you are doing is so very very brave. Every single day your body is able to get more and more oxygen to nerves and cells that have been so starved for so long. The true withdrawal is finished after 7 days, the cravings though are psychological but knowing that doesn't always help. Try the medications. If no insurance call the company. You can even find other people in the craziest places. Look at me seeing yours and I clicked on Max! KZfaq videos, read the comments and ask/post for names of online help they have found out there. Contact local churches for established groups and remember that there are larger churches with so many small groups. I attend Elevation in Charlotte and I know there are several that meet online. You do not have to be a member. Join several at different churches. I know Saddleback church has some available. The people you meet in the group will support each other at times in need other than appointed group times. Reward yourself. God will give you all the grace and mercy that you will need each morning to get you through that day. And He promises that His grace is sufficient. That's such great news!!! Make a list of 10 or even 100 things you have to be grateful for. God knows you need His help. When I am dealing with something tough I lay down and close my eyes and put my head on Jesus' shoulder and as he wipes my tears, I look up to see His eyes, and I can't find words strong enough to describe the love and compassion I see. You are wonderfully made and you are worth a life without smoking so you can use that money and newfound energy for "do good" .... Remember when we are isolated, we have to change that. In this pandemic, you can help any day at churches or schools with food prep or delivery. So much help is needed in so many areas. You will reap much reward for helping others when you are feeling the opposite. Use this time like a "Fast". Every time it becomes overwhelming or you become anxious, drop to your knees and amazing things will grow between you and the Lord. I am praying for you and added you to my prayer list. Prayer works.
