Ok, ok, back to your regularly scheduled programming :). )
I’ve talked about this piece before but I wanted to touch on it again.
This Bulova piece is representative of the amazing historical piece shown here in the link below!
• Commander David Scott'...
This is an excellent piece of history and the Bulova Lunar Pilot Chronograph is an excellent representation of Commander Dave Scott’s piece that was worn not only in orbit but also on the moon and while piloting the lunar rover!
Yes. The production piece is a quartz, it has a new date window, and yes it is a little larger than its astronaut used prototype.
However, it’s 2018. I’m not going to the moon, I like being able to grab and go without having to set and wind everything I own, & and I like knowing what the date is T the flick of the wrist.
Also, if you prefer a no date option, Bulova produces a no date one as well.
In the end, I feel the significance of the prototype worn by Scott justifies this production piece. Being a piece worn on the outside of a spacesuit justifies its size, and it’s great price justifies it as a possible addition to any Chronograph or space fanatic like myself.

The story is the following, Omega hat the absolut exclusivity contract for all moon missions. The Bulova was the backup watch of Dave Randolph Scott because on EVA-2 (Extra Vehicle Activity) his Omega broke (the cristal poppet out). Dave tuck his backup watch Bulova for EVA-3, he also used the Bulova for control monitoring of the spaceship computers on the back journey. The Bulova is the only non Omega watch used in moon operation. Another interesting thing is. that all original Omega watches used on moon missions are property of the U.S. governement and they are exposed in many museums all thru the U.S.A. Only the original Bulowa moon is in privat property and buyed for 1´625´000 U.S. Dollars. This watch is a real piece of history !!!!!!

I just got this watch. It arrived about an hours ago. So many people mentioned that it was a very large watch, and that if it had been smaller it would be more popular. IDK perhaps I have been wearing a Garmin Fenix 3 since I began running Altra's in '15. It seem small compared to the Garmin. That being said I felt that it was kinda small to me. Seems like a nice watch. My watch has a leather NATO style band. I thinks I am going to get another type of band. I spent a little more by getting it from Macy's. You can find it cheaper. I still plan to get an Omega Moon Watch.

@@malbug but definitely worth the price. Hard to think of a chronograph in that price range that could make mpete with it. There were a couple of Dan Henry's thst looked really appealing for a little less money, but this one has such a great heritage and story behind it, and the design and build quality is on point. And then UHF quartz is a pretty special movement.

I've just bought the two strap version. I read loads of comments about the size and was convinced it was going to be too big. I feel I have quite thin wrists but as soon as I tried it in the shop I was sold! It looks great and I finally get a 'moon' watch! I also tried the none date, black version but it seemed to get 'lost' in the strap.

Totally agree about the need to actually try it on. If you do and still say it’s too big, so be it. But if you don’t and just say it, I think those who do that are doing themselves a big disservice. And yes! The blacks cool but the details get lost and the new polished one is cool but the original had a satin finish so I’ll take the date window and satin thank you. Lol! 👍

I have 6.5" wrist and wear this model on a thick racing strap. it helps with the curvature at the lugs so it doesn't look like it's hanging over. anyway, I think it looks fine. It's a moon watch. suppose to be kinda big(er). People forget the Omega Speedy was a gigantic watch in it's time... 42mm(professional model)... in late 60's, early 70's? also own the Omega as well. I think the two watches complement eachother well. I'm keeping both in my collection. have fun wearing both.(not at the same time though. ;)

I'll agree that it's a big watch but natos, as well as the included velcro strap, do help it to appear manageable even on my 6.5" wrist. Regarding the included velcro strap, if you loop it through the second keeper at the 12 o'clock end before folding it back over and securing, you'll find that the leather spec patch centers right under the wrist! I think this is how it's designed to be worn, at least on a bare wrist.

Bulova should have included the 12 hour timer at 6 instead of the second hand, which is useless with the chrono hand. the split second timer is also useless. It sbild have had the 30 minute timer at 3. That said, I love mine and it's a spectacular watch. Much prefer the bracelet, which is quality and looks incredible.

Hi I have this watch, you mentioned that the nato strap is too long, you'll notice that there are two posible rings that you can attach it to. If you put the velcro through the top ring (closest to the watch) then it won't be so long. The two rings are there to replicate an extension so the watch can sit outside a spacesuit.

Actually, that’s incorrect. Citizen Group owns Miyota so theoretically, they could produce it with a Miyota movement in the dutiful the outcry were great enough. However, The current highbeat quartz movement is higher quality and more accurate than most Miyota so I for one would still opt for the current movement even if a mechanical Miyota were to become an option if I could only have one. If I could have two then a Miyota powered Lunar Chronograph AND a hibeat Quartz version both in the collection would be very welcome indeed!

Thanks for the review! Should I get the bracelet/strap version? Each version has different spring bar position. Like the bracelet version, but it's more expensive and I'm not sure whether it'll fit a NATO strap later on.
@WristwatchAddiction
@WristwatchAddiction 5 жыл бұрын
That’s a very good question that a lot of people ask. Keep in mind, I only have the strap version so I have to go on what others have said but, I have been told that the spring bar position of the bracelet version will still allow for thin material NATO’s but not thick leather ones. You are correct that the steel bracelet will not fit on the strap version. However, if you don’t mind not having fitted flush endlinks, there is always the option for aftermarket Steel bracelets on the strap version. In the end it comes down to what you wear more. If you have a few watches it and they are all on metal bracelets, get the bracelet version. Myself, although I have the steel bracelets for almost all my time pieces, most are on leather or NATO so the strap version made more sense for me. Which ever you do get it, they are really cool pieces!

The big seconds hand is for running seconds on the Chronograph so no, it generally doesn’t run. The small seconds hand in the subdial at 6 o’clock is always running seconds. You CAN just leave the Chronograph always running to have a big seconds hand on some Chronographs. However, I believe this one stops at an hour so that doesn’t really work in this case. 🤷‍♂️ Sorry it took me so long to reply. I missed the question some how. Thanks for watching!

Yes, Everyone including myself wishes it was a bit smaller but it is within 2 mm of the original and since 42mm-45mm watches were all the rage at the time of this re-release, I suppose that’s why they opted for the size it is. I seem to remember reading the original being 40.5mm although I cannot find that info now. Here is a photo and interview with Commander David Scott (who’s watch this one is modeled after). Good read & as you can see, Bulova always had the Tach scale within the face and under glass. Only Omega had it on the bezel (a novel approach at the time). As far as I go, my only gripe is I wish they had omitted the date to keep it more true to the original. Newer models can be had without the date window now. www.fratellowatches.com/fratello-watches-qa-with-apollo-15-astronaut-dave-scott/ Thanks for watching!

Is it worth buying bulova lunar pilot? What’s the yearly accuracy of this watch?can this watch fit in small size wrist and any issues problems while using the watch?
@WristwatchAddiction
@WristwatchAddiction 5 жыл бұрын
I believe it is definitely worth buying. I have not measured the yearly accuracy but it seems to hold time to my phone consistently. I’ve only had to reset the hands for daylight savings time. Other than moving that hour hand, the minutes have stayed on target with the minutes on my phone throughout ownership. It can fit a smaller wrist on a NATO that adds some thickness to the band. My wrist is 6 3/4 and anything smaller and the lug to lug length would overhang on my wrist. As i think you can see in the video, the thicker the strap (Velcro & natos) in the video, the less noticeable the lug to lug becomes on the wrist. I’d say a 6 3/4 wrist is the smallest that would comfortably fit this watch though. No issues at all since I’ve owned it and I purchased mine preowned off of WatchUSeek so it’s worked great through two owners so far. Thanks for the questions and thanks so much for watching 🙏

@@WristwatchAddiction yes absolutely, they are returning to the innovative American technological firsts company they were in the past! They are finally doing a lot of things right! I love the UHF quartz they are using! It embraces what I love in mechanical movements with a smooth sweeping seconds/chrono hand and they are nailing their designs lately with these Archive series staying true to the originals except for proportions, however that doesnt bother me personally. These few lately with the Lunar Pilot and Devil Diver are true classic, historic, and timeless pieces that will never grow old, for me only get better every day I wear them and cant decide which one to wear! Bulova is starting again on innovation with the Curv, first curved movement, however they missed the mark not providing a smooth sweeping 16 beats/second chrono/second hand, which destroyed it for me personally. They just need to take this UHF movement farther, they are surpassing accuracy and competing with Seiko Spring Drive also having a perfect sweep seconds but not as accurate time keeping. Bulova needs to make a true proper high caliber/quality chronograph and standard watch to rival the Seiko GS Spring Drives out there at a fraction of the cost, just above price of their current products. That would be game over for Seiko! Offering more precise timekeeping but still maintaining what horologists demand, smooth sweeping seconds, in my opinion. I am willing to throw out tradition with innovation, technology, improvement, and still maintaining aesthetics. We threw everything out the window with traditional quartz, so dead, no soul. UHF quartz is high performance and alive! Need to bring the Bulova AccuSwiss line back for their higher quality materials and case finishing and throw UHF quartz movements in them! That would be revolutionary! The Sellita movements are total garbage that was in my Bulova Accuswiss Murren Chrono.

Do you own an actual birth year watch? If not, something to consider.

Definitely. I was born two weeks after the Apollo 11 moon landing, and I just held an Omega Speedy Moonwatch yesterday for the first time.

I wouldn't call it "a fantastic LITTLE watch"... Perhaps "an interesting watch albeit too LARGE for most wrists".

😂 great point on the word “little”. Probably shouldn’t ever be called that.
