Tyler, I think the Wizard is probably the nicest guy - in the world. He patiently and knowledgeably looks over your car while you savour the aroma emanating from the leather cover of the owner's manual - and he is polite enough not to take a second glance. Most mechanics I know prefer taking sharp intakes of breath through their teeth, while shaking their heads from side to side and saying "that's gonna cost ya" .

That transmission mount plate looks identical to the one used in a Jaguar XJ-S. If the mount itself IS fluid filled and has failed it might be cheaper and more reliable to replace it with the mount used in the XJ-S, which is basically a large spring a two big washers. It's going to be a lot cheaper than the correct part (yes, they are easily available brand new, and I would imagine it would be very easy to get a used one from a Jag breaker) and I can't imagine it is going to make the car noticeably less refined as an XJ-S is still a very refined car...
@flightmaster178
@flightmaster178 5 жыл бұрын
Beautiful car. Not too many issues considering it's age and all. Also, a pro tip for Wizard. On cars such as that with a lot of electronics, sometimes the modules fail to turn off, and when you disconnect the battery terminal to insert your ammeter in between, the modules reset when you connect them and will sometimes make the issue intermittent. Personally, I'd tell him to use an inductive amperage clamp around the battery cable, as it's non intrusive, and it won't cause anything to be "reset" by disconnecting any cables. Overall, love what you're doing. Keep up the good work.

I've had a few of these in our shop over the years. Not all Lucas parts. A lot of French valeo crap in there as well. The French equivalent of Lucas. In fact the entire windshield wiper setup is from a 1980s peugeot 205. ..yummy.! I've had customers who have had quotes of $5000 and more to repair simple problems on these. But all you need is a Peugeot 205 and an old ford mondeo and you'll have enough parts to keep it on the road for years.

@@sebastienlavallee8320 actually most aftermarket stereos have between 7.5 and 10 amp fuses on board. Your factory radio fuse might be 15a, but in most cars it's paired with other lights or power adapters

osheathedj I think he said it was the ignition control wire. Radios often have that On-Off control wire as a Yellow-Orange color while the main power wire is red. Dual power source. I'm guessing the Red wire them powers the main amplifier etc in the radio while the Yellow wire only powers control unit. Hopefully someone can confirm this or explain the reality?

I had one in 98’ in Forest Green a lighter colour but also tan upholstery. My first Aston and an easy transition from the XJS I had prior, given the same mechanics. It was a turning point in Aston’s survival and rebirth. The V12, which I then had, was an appreciably better car. Was down at the Bloxham factory to see it being built, in the same Tom Walkinshaw founded shed that built the XJ220. Still great days, then, before the big corporate attitude fully took over. The DB7 bodies, which are galvanised, were built by Vickers engineering for Aston, and delivered as a virtually complete shell to Bloxham. Vickers of course was a company with a great British engineering heritage too, from airplanes to munitions, ships and tanks. It disappeared in a buy-out by Rolls-Royce in 1999. Good luck with your DB7 and enjoy...I loved them.

Ha Ha.... that is why the entire industry is foreign owned and engineered. Have to laugh when British reviewers claim that a Vauxhall has comparable build quality and driving dynamics of a German car. Really... It is a German car! They don't ever mention it is a Opel.

@@williamegler8771 a lot of the British car industry is foreign owned, which is due to the brands being valuable and desirable. They are pretty much all engineered over here though, with the exception of Vauxhall which is just a brand rather than a company these days; I've never heard anyone speak of Vauxhall with any amount of pride, so I'm not sure where you got that information from.

I once had a Suzuki XL7 that kept draining the battery. Turns out it was the dvd player that was incorrectly wired, both the main circuit and switching circuit were connected to the battery power instead of having the switching circuit connected to the accessory or run circuit, so if it wasn't manually turned off, it could be still running even when the screen was folded up. Rewiring it fixed that problem. Took two trips to the dealer under warranty to figure it out 😂.
