My Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo with 318 all time all wheel drive and did 0-60 in 5 and 6 seconds all the time and the wheels were the stock aluminum with 235/75 tires so it's no surprise your truck hit that time !

Yeah I have done this to more trucks than I can remember, and I always see a 1.5 to 2.5 MPG decrease with slightly larger, heavier tires. BUT, the benefit is that I haven't had a flat tire in decades on aftermarket tires, whereas the factory garbage will get sidewall damage easily.

I saw similar results going from the 31" stock tires on my 2014 Sierra to 33" Discoverer AT3 4S tires. A little bit loss of efficiency but the year round performance of the all weather tires is easily worth the sacrifice. Plus they are very decent offroad. IMO all weather are a great choice for an all around tire. Especially if you don't have the room or funds for proper snow tires and your off roader is your daily driver.

I also put on 33s on my stock truck, with a 2 inch leveling kit. I found the speedometer to be 2 mph less than actual and on a regular 107 mile trip my mileage reduced to 101 miles on the Odometer.

I saw a 0.5L/100km loss just in changing to bfg ko2 tires at the same size. And almost 1L/100km loss with a 2.5" level, 1" rear, (which I assume you had to fit 33s) on my '14. Would do it again in a heart beat, but I was astounded at the efficiency and power difference.

This is an interesting and informative video. Thanks Andre and TFL. I have a 2014 F 150 4x4 Supercab ( extended) with the naturally aspirated 3.7 V-6 rated at about 300 H.P. and similar torque. It has the 3.73 axle ratio. The truck also has a duel fuel system with CNG provided by Altech-Eco as a Ford option. The 15 gallon CNG tank is cross mounted in the bed and weighs hundreds of pounds. My gasoline tank holds 36 gallons. Stock tires were 235 75 17 and I was running 265 70 17 Goodyear Wranglers all season tires. I switched to Bridgestone 285 70 17 10 ply E rated Dueler Revo 3 A/T tires on stock steel wheels. I added a 1.5" level lift and Air-Lift air bags for the rear suspension. I also added a Roush low restriction air cleaner .Before I added options I was getting close to 22 mpg on a good day, level road, 70 mph , 2,000 rpm. The lift and bigger tires dropped the mpg by about 3 mpg. I noticed it took more work for the truck to turn the bigger tires when accelerating but once at 70 or so it was fine. The lift seemed to create more drag at the front and I felt the wind pushing it around more. I believe that contributed to the loss of mpg. My tires can take up to 80 psi and I keep about 55 psi for normal driving without a load. I like the E rated 10 ply for stiffer handling, especially with a load. When I air up the rear air bags it brings the rear end up a good inch or two and gives more slope downward to the front end, decreasing wind drag and increasing mpg. I love the woosshing sound of the Roush air cleaner and I believe it helps the mpg a tad, Plus the filter can be cleaned by hand. I also have a hard tonneau cover and that likely helps mpg a bit. My conclusion: the low restriction air cleaner helps. The rear air bags allow me to lift the rear and lower the front reducing air drag. The front puck level lift pokes the nose up a bit. I would not get anything taller than 1.5". The E rated Bridgestones are a nice all terrain tire but their bigger size and width slows the truck down a bit. These tires are about 33" and I wouldn't put anything wider with the stock suspension for adequate front end clearance. The bigger tires throws the speedometer off, especially at higher speeds. So, my mpg is actually better than the truck indicates. Still the truck has to work a bit harder and downshifts more when accelerating hard. I'm basically happy with all I've done. Keeping some rake in the front end helps mpg, noticeably , but I wouldn't want to go back to factory rake which is about 2". I don't like that look. Returning to a more stock type highway tire of 265 70 or 75 x 17 would improve mpg but I like the Revos for snow and off road use. Btw, I also love having the CNG option. CNG is cheaper at the pump and it gets the same mpg and performs as well as gasoline. The tank does take up space in the bed though and adds some weight. I love my Ford truck and not having a turbo doesn't bother me much. Andre's hybrid with turbo combination would feel powerful, no doubt, and gets better mpg than I do. Oh well, these are trucks, not Teslas. Happy trails!

Andre you definitely need to figure out how to program the truck for the larger tires. In the old days when I installed larger tires I had to change the plastic gear in the speedo cable. Now with everything computer controlled the vehicle needs to be updated to the larger size tire as it will effect the speedometer, odometer, shift points and other variables. It will also change your effective gearing in the axles.
@Jay-me7gw
@Jay-me7gw Жыл бұрын
Forscan might be able to do it on his truck. It depends if the PCM will allow the BCM to report a larger tire size. On my 2014 F150 I had to change the size in the BCM but also had to tweak PCM tune to accept the larger reported size from the BCM, otherwise it would throw a code and the PCM would ignore the BCM and default back to the factory size.
@alexnunes

Forscan will do that. I have done this in my 2018, it did throw a code, so he'd have to reset it so the computer can learn the shifting points for the larger tires.

I put these same tires on my F150 and they have been good tires but the main thing that I noted is that changing from the Michelin‘s that I had on there previously which were just all season tires these really gave me back the off-road capability that I was looking for out of the truck because I quite often take it off pavement for the work that I do and have to cruise around fields and down trails. These tires made it where win before I would’ve had to put it in four-wheel-drive to get out of a situation now with the new tires three out of four times I don’t need four-wheel-drive anymore.

Hi Andrey I loved your video. Just a helpful tip, For every 1 inch in diameter you go up on tire size you gain a half inch in height “lift”. If you went up in tire size by 2 inches then that correlates to 1 inch gained in height “lift”. Measure your 31s straight down the middle from top to bottom and then measure the 34s and you will see it will be 1inch taller and not 2 inches taller
@donekadamore5907
@donekadamore5907 Жыл бұрын
The diameter should still be 2” bigger but it’s the radius that’s only 1” bigger. So that would be middle of the rim to the ground which is the gained height not the top to bottom of the whole tire

@@donekadamore5907 - Exactly!!! Even then,,, it’s not an exact thing. He went from a 4 ply P Metric sized tire to a 8 ply LT Metric sized tire. @@truckercowboyed2638 - Technology, yes, but the batteries are HEAVY. Every pound you add to the batteries, you take away from payload. I only speak of an average commuter, but 25 miles is more than enough with room to spare for grocery shopping and the odd daily side trips. Now, in my case, when I was working, I had a drive of 1.25 hours,,,, one way,,, and the same back. I would need a full on EV to run emissions free. The plug in hybrid CUV/SUVs get around the 75 mpgE. That’s can add up significantly,,, not sure if the 25 miles of EV driving only for part of the trip is best or using hybrid mode with the fully charged battery instead,,,,. It really is different for everyone, so there is no ONE answer. There’s just the fact that if you lose 250 lbs of payload to extra batteries,,,,, that’s significant, and would definitely be a factor for me.

Hey Andre, great video as always. Did the 2" pucks effect your ride at all? I've been debating about going with Bilstein 5100 adjustable shocks to level my Silverado rather then the spacers.

Nice video, Good to see real world results on a hybrid. You could have probably bought a nice cheap set of factory take-off aluminum wheels on marketplace to increase its appearance before mounting the new tires.

He has always said he likes the steel wheels and has always intended to keep them? Not everyone like alloy wheels. I am surprised by how the steel wheels look, but I would have done exactly what you mentioned!! I’m not a steel wheel fan.

I have that same tire size, I really like them and didn't want to risk 35s. Went with a Bilstein 6112 kit up front to level out then replaced the rear blocks to get some rake back. I w we not with raptor wheels for the slight offset change without getting too crazy. I've noticed very little affect with those tires on my 2.7eb. if the hybrid version was available when I got mine, that would have been the one. Great video 👍

$100 for the spacer kit and $300 for install and alignment is a really good price. I reached out to a suspension shop here in Michigan about having the same thing done and they wanted $800 for the whole thing

Nice! Would a 2 inch leveling kit be a great thing to have over stock when you atmre towing a travel trailer? Thanks! 😀

My 2018 STX supercrew 4x4 still has the factory 20's and 275/55R20 tires. (32 inches). I eventually will do a basic leveling kit and 275/60/R20 tires (33 inches) This gives me hope that I may not really loose any fuel mileage if I pick my tire carefully. Lucky for me the brand A/T tire that was on it when I bought it comes in a 33 inch tire. I"m keeping my factory wheels 1)because I like them and 2) when it comes to offroading, I don't really take my truck anyplace that a 20 inch wheel will be a problem.

Hybrids are 3.73, so running 34's vs 32's helps out on the highway giving a taller ratio. Should see if you can give it a software update to correct for tire size.

Andre! Really dig the new set up. Looks so much better. I’d like to see an update! How are you liking it? What’s the ride quality like? I’d like to see it hooked up to a couple of trailers to see what the squat looks like with the level installed. And maybe a future video with something like the Roush/Fox 2.0s installed and a comparison. I’ll be leveling my 2021 XLT sometime before next summer and I’m trying to decide between the spacer and the fox set up. Thanks!

I have the 22 powerboost and I was curious since I want new tires. Mine has the premium upgraded wheels but still the stock tires and a leveling kit was done before it ever left the lot. I also use premium but I get mine at costco, was $4.36 yesterday there. Mileage is the same but I have definitely seen it running better with the premium and they do recommend it for certain temps and towing. This test pretty much helps me make the decision since the loss is not much as all.

I got my 2022 Powerboost Lariat on July 7 (ordered Feb 25). It came with 275/75/18 Goodyear tires. I’ve put over 6000 miles on it since then, 4000 or so towing a 29’ travel trailer to Washington State and back. I’ve averaged about 11 mpg towing and 23-25 mpg otherwise. Towing mileage is about the same as my 5.0 ‘18 Lariat and 6.0 f250 06’ powerstroke pulling the same trailer. I got 36 mpg once on a 60 mi trip but then that was from Monument, CO to Pueblo, CO (all down hill). Keeping one’s foot out of those turbos has a bigger effect on gas mileage than anything else as well as terrain, wind and speed or some combination thereof.

I had a 2000 f150 v6 manual with the adjustable torsion bars on the front where you could loosen or tight two bolts and the front would go up and down. With the nose down I got 18 mpg combined driving and with it leveled with bed, it got 16.

The truck looks good with your changes Andre......I bet that change in sidewall height/Aspect ratio to 75 will be a nice smooth ride.....I personally would have left it at the stock ride height if possible then leveled it and if I was too raise it I would have gone with 1" as to not get any bigger of a gap in between the tire and fender well without anything rubbing of course.

Andre, just curious does the truck require Load E tires? If not 285/75R17 has Load C options like OpenCountry AT3 which might give you a little bit more comfort but not much of unsprung weight difference between those KO2 Load E and AT3 Load Cs. For winter performance I see KO2s are 3PMSF rated compound but don't see 3PMSF rating for AT3 even though the tires have bit more siping on the tread. Love to see you put that to test on the trails. I know there is lot of debate for tires. I have put KO2 285/70R17 Load C in CO deep snow and have no complains but on pavement Duratrac Standard Load tires performed well. Looking forward for trail test videos.

for testing on different tyres, etc., using GPS to determine speed is critical - also use a 3rd party app for distance travelled not the vehicle odometer.. all's good, besides.

I think bfg recommends at least an 8” wide rim for their 285 75 R17. That stock rim in either 7 or 7.5”. Don’t be surprised if it wears uneven in the middle of the tire.
@Christian-kj4ox
@Christian-kj4ox Жыл бұрын
Looks like he may be ok if the rim is 7.5”, after a quick little search on the website the rim width range for a 285/75r17 is 7.50-9.50 but good point! I thought the same exact thing so when I saw your comment I was very curious Edit: Those tires are also insanely heavy haha

As always - really enjoy all your videos - spectacular content and relevance! I'm within a week of having the Roush Fox 2.0 Suspension Kit installed (I'd be curious as to your thoughts on this particular kit), and debating as to whether I want to include new tires. My 2021 F150 Lariat FX4 5.0 has a bit over 12k in mileage so the stock OEM tires (Hankook AT 275/60/R20, 33's) are still viable. To save some money after making such an investment in this leveling kit, I might be better off wearing down the stock tires. I have considered Falkan Wildpeak AT3W 275/65/R20 or same OEM size as noted... Thank you!
