I love the double Screens they have multiple screens on airplanes for a reason. Because it’s nice to have different information on different screens.

I just bought this car. I went in for an oil change on my 2008 Acura and it ended up being a very expensive oil change because I ended up buying a 2017 MDX Advanced, I have been looking to replace my 2008, I wasn't impressed much with the 2016. While I was waiting for my oil change, thought I'd take a look at the 2017 to see if I liked it. I loved it, I thought the advanced had a lot of class. I love the way they did the bucket seats and adding the wood, that was really nice touch, rather than the plastic. The seats were nicely trimmed. I couldn't resist, so I took it for a test drive, very smooth, very quiet in comfort. I wanted a car that is quiet and smooth, that soaks up the bumps. This car did it. I was saving for a GLE 350, but after the test drive and seeing how much nicer they did the inside, and the difference in cost from the GLE 350 versus the Acura, I bought the Acura. Here's what I don't like. They need a new NAV system, it's only slightly changed from 2008, it needs android auto play and color, that's my number one dislike. My second dislike is it has no panoramic glass view for the second row passengers, he's right, it should have a panoramic roof. The 3rd is the cargo space when all three rows are up, I had that problem with the 2008 and I still have it. One of the features that was a must have was the 3-zone climate control, not too many Luxury SUV's have it, so it really cuts the choices down. I also didn't want to drive a larger SUV, so I'm going to take a hit on the cargo space and keep the car length as it is. Most of the time I don't use the 3rd row, but occasionally it does come in handy if I have visitors with small children so I normally have use of all the cargo with the 3rd row down. Other than that there really wasn't much not to like. I'm never take my cars off road, so that's no issue. It handles fantastic, I love the lighter feel. Most SUV's feel like you're driving around with a boat anchor, including my 2008 MDX. The 2017 MDX felt much lighter, I felt like I could swing it in and out of parking spaces with no problems. I have window shades for my pups when their in the 2nd row, 3-zone climate to keep them cool, it drives really smooth so the pups will be able to nap comfortably without being bounced around. It's very quiet, no road pavement noise. We're going to take nice quiet, serene trips in this car. I think they did a good job with this one. I tested drove the Volvo XC90 too noisy, I wasn't impressed with the LKA, they also had no real storage places in the car. Acura's LKA is nice I liked it. Then there was the Infinity QX60, too heavy, too big and wobbly. Then there was the Audi Q7, It felt like I was driving a limo, and the interior really wasn't that nice, it looked like a souped up station wagon inside, it was also too long in length for the amount of cargo space and the inflated cost was probably not worth it. For 3-zone climate features that left the Mercedes GLE, which I had to order if I wanted the 3-zone climate control. The GLE was quiet, it drove very smooth, it felt a little heavy, but it was easy to drive, and the interior is truly outstanding. Then as I started thinking of adding what I really wanted in the GLE the price can climb up a little, they do offer really good deals, but I still had to order to get the 3-zone climate control. So today I walk in to Acura and see the Acura Advance and fell in love with it, thought about price of the GLE and decided I can live with the Acura. They really did a good job with the interior of the Advance Model. He's right at least now you feel like you're sitting inside and driving a luxury vehicle, where before it was just too much plastic. The sports mode works, and you hear a little whine, but again I want quiet so I'll be driving mostly in comfort mode, no whine in comfort mode.

Dave this is the most fair review I have seen on the mid cycle refresh for the MDX. You simply state your dislikes and at the same time not asking for a mountain to move. So even your criticism is very fair. As a owner of a 2014 & 2016(soon to be 2019) I agree with the improvements you mentioned that need to be implemented. I would say the biggest feature I would want to see is one continuous giant screen like you mentioned(which can also be positioned for minimal glare) instead of two screens for the nav and infotainment center. I say MDX can easily be made larger to the size of the current gen Pilot since they are pretty much using the same platform. I think all cigarette lighter ports need to be replaced with 2A USB ports, trim options not to have any DVD or Disc players since they are really on the way out and take up visual space(USB Ports so the car can read movie files and audio files which will be way better), and cool boxes for drinks. Also in today's world more high amp USB ports maybe 4 in the front 4 in the back would be super convenient(speed charging, and car's ability to read media is a savior). One single high res large display to control all functions to replace the entire center stack physical buttons, and an entirely digital tach. No car manufacturer would then be able to touch the MDX...MDX buyer for life.

I love the Dual screens... makes sense to me to have the navigation screen separate. I think it’s very cool. I love the sound system! Excellent sound!! The only dislike I have is no power fold third or second row seats from the back lift gate area. Did not like this MDX at all until this year... after they finally changed that ugly front grill.

Was wondering why you were wearing the hat backwards, now I get it! You do a great job with these videos, by the way. I also like the new grille, the MDX (and Acura in general) design language, particularly for the notorious "beak", has been in the wilderness since the glory days of the awesome Acura Legend so I'm glad to see them moving away from that. The LED headlights are not great but that's progress I guess.

Why did you buy it if you have so may dislikes that you could have noticed before purchase? Things like lack of panoramic moonroof, small 3rd row, small cargo space, no one-touch close & lock rear gate, and tires could have been identified without even going for a test drive.

For those of us who live in the sunbelt (Texas here) we really don't want a full panoramic roof because it lets in way too much heat. We test drove an Audi Q5 with that feature in the summer and it was crazy hot in the car. The fabric mesh covers did little to keep the heat out. We are looking at an MDX this weekend.

I have been shopping for a mid sized SUV for a while to find something that will be a suitable upgrade and replacement for my Venza in the next couple years and for me the MDX didn't even make it into the top 5 in terms of specifications. One of the issues with this class for me is size, while I frequently venture outside of the city to rural areas and need something that can handle soft roading and lots of snow, I also need something that is under 72" in height to fit in underground parking and preferably not much longer than my 189" Venza in length (also for ease of parking in the city). While I have never been hung up with the Venza and its 8.1" of clearance I have on a few occasions broke the clips off that hold the under engine splash guard in place driving in snow/ice and in the warmer month in rutted dirt roads to get to cottages and camps. In comparison to the Venza the MDX is almost 7.5" longer, with that extra length you get a third row (which I would rather not have) and based off of my specs about 20 cu ft of max cargo capacity and 7 cu ft more cargo capacity to the second row, which is good but you also sacrifice about 1/2 an inch of second row seat room not a noticeable difference but I would prefer an upgrade rather than the same or a slight downgrade with that extra length. Another weakness you mentioned, that is relevant for me due to needing to traverse deep snow is the loss of ground clearance compared to the Venza and no improvement in towing capacity (based off the specs I've seen they can both tow 3500) for all of this the MDX is also more expensive than a new Venza, Highlander, Acadia, Pilot or Grand Cherokee. My top contenders are Highlander, Acadia, Pilot and the Grand Cherokee. While the Highlander is a couple inches longer than the Venza, its 5" shorter than the MDX, and offers .7" more than the MDX, while still offering an improvement on the cargo capacity and towing capacity of the Venza. The Acadia and Pilot share the length weakness with the MDX, of less ground clearance and being slightly too long than preferred but they are more affordable than the MDX and offer better towing capacities for getting a trailer of snowmobiles around in the Canadian winter without needing to resort to a half ton truck. Without needing to consider price, the Mercedes GLE would likely top my list but with the need to do so that knocks both the GLE and MDX down below my list as I would need to compare used examples to new Highlanders, Acadias, Pilots and Grand Cherokees for them to fall into the same price range. Some possible disruptors to this list would be a new 4Runner, XC60 or Touareg but the current models are far down the list in their current designs.

Acura did an exit interview with customers and found out only 5% used it off road. They decided to tune it more for icey conditions and high speed handling. Hence SHAWD Sport Handling All Wheel Drive. I have an Advanced 2010 and on what few icey days I turn on VSA and try to break the tires loose before I hit major traffic. To find the traction threshold. This thing has amazing control in this condition. There are vids showing this AWD is one if not the best available. To prevent the steering tires from breaking loose under hard accelleration or high speed, it can apply up to 90% of the power to the rear outside tire and push the front tires through the turn. Very cool... They need to go to a true frame as at 180,000M I can feel the unibody construction flex slightly. Bumps that use to be absorbed by the suspension are more transferred and felt by the passengers. One last thought the ACC tops out at 90 MPH. Be Safe

Likes: 1.- Price hasn´t Ramp Up 2.- Great looking Front and Jewel Eyes looks amazing. 3.- SH-AWD Still Kicks in quite hard on the MDX (More than other SH-AWD Equipped Cars) 4.- Great MPGs 5.- Excellent Power even though the numbers might not suggest it the MDX is one of the 3 Fastest CUVs in its segment, Out performing cars with 4 cyl Turbos. 6.- Interior Styling, although this is a mix bag since its shares many design features with the Pilot. 7.- Rear Captain Chairs although again mixed bag since you get the Seat Bench hard packed with RES, Why??? 8.- New Sport Hybrid Version could be a Game Changer, If Acura ever release it. Dislikes: 1.- Dual Screen Setup, Completely useless and mixes a lot of UI on both screens 2.- Rear End looks like a Pilot (I liked the distinction of the 2nd Gen since you could not confuse it with a Pilot at all) the 3rd gen can be easily confused with a Pilot from the Rear for the average person. 3.- CRUNCHY DEAD ON WATER 2007 MAPS ON NAV, This is not funny the maps date back to 2004! but the system NAV core was released in 07 for the MDX.. It has more than OBSOLETE NAV Maps and nothing a +50K +2017 CUV should be using, The new Pilot has better UI and a new NAV System with upgraded Maps. 4.- No Apple Car or Android Car Support even when the Pilot has it! This is hilarious to some degree. 5.- Horrible looking rear bumper 6.- Still slow as hell Tailgate cycle time, Just look at the Volvo CX90! its like Match 1 compared to the MDX Tailgate. 7.- TERRIBLE Transmission, That thing likes to hunt for gears too much and hesitates to downshift, It is fast on Sport Mode but as a Daily Driver leaves too much to be desired. 8.- SH-AWD has been downgraded to a system that might not last as long as its previous versions, The new 3rd gen MDX has SH-AWD 3.0 (Also called iVTM4 in Honda). That is pretty much my summary, Unless you absolutely need the MDX Styling, Power and SH-AWD? Better get the Pilot until Acura get its shit together... I am an Acurazine Member and a MDX owner.

As an 04 and 14 MDX owner I can vouch for everything in this review. I average 22.7 MPG and I really like the new fascia. However, whereas my 04 MDX was pretty good off-road, the 14 one is a total mommy-mobile (aka, minivan in disguise) and the cargo space is disappointingly small for a SUV of this size.

bonus like : push button to access 3rd row bonus dislike : not having android auto Btw, when it comes to the dual screens, I like to be able to change settings without closing the navigation. It's not an annoyance for me since it's practical. The single screen does look nicer though. I would prefer a large screen which splits in 2 for navigation when it is used.

I also hate 2 screens and the fact you can not see map and what songs are playing on radio. One large screen would be huge improvement. Also many times the bright sun shines into the MDX are reflex off the metal trim and blinds you!

How is the ticking engine noise? My only compliant with 2014 MDX is the valve noise or whatever makes the ticking. It's actually embarrassing. I shut the car off immediately cuz it sounds like an old sewing machine!

I like the video, but it seems no one ever mentions how comfortable a car drives, how comfortable the seats are etc. Comparisons to other vehicles competing in the same segment in the areas mentioned above would be nice. A vehicle is either more, less, or just as comfortable as another. Please add that in your reviews.

What I don't like about the MDX is the transmission, I test drove this car and when you mash down on the pedal it hesitates while looking for the appropriate gear! Otherwise its a really nice SUV!

I also have a 2017 MDX. Likes: - SH AWD - handles really well for an SUV - Quiet and comfortable - Good built quality - LED headlights are great Dislikes: - Infotainment system is so slow to respond, really laggy and graphics are very dated as well, looks like it came out of an 80's computer console game - 60-40 split in the second row, not good for carrying skis (or any long item) because then you can't seat 2 in the second row, 40-20-40 split would be so much more useful - Blind spot warning indicator should be on the mirror rather than the A-pillar, it's easier and more intuitive to see it there because that's the first place you look when you are changing lanes - The shifter panel is a really dumb idea, it takes up just as much space as a regular shifter but is less intuitive to use and you have to look down to check that you have pressed the right button, a useless piece of innovation - This engine is more fuel efficient but the V6 in the 2010-2014 version is actually smoother and revs more freely

So just sold my 2007 MDX/170k on it. Loved it. But I'm so sad that the tech just has NOT kept up with it. STILL two screens. That's too old....one touch and the other nav. BUT, what gets me is that the nav system is still NOT GPS! It's still CD/rom driven! That's 10 yrs old. I wanted something newer...loved the new grill, but I agree that the back storage shelf height is to high! My 2007 was a couple inches lower. Why? Don't know. Am steering toward the XC90 or Q9. Just can't go with the MDX again. Wanted to, but won't. AND no CARPLAY? cmon Acura!

Agree with your likes and dislikes. My 2016 MDX's biggest dislike is the 9 speed transmission and Acura carries it into the 2017 model. 0-20 MPH it can be a "herky-jerky" drive as confirmed by the Jan 2017 issue of M.T. magazine. Service dept. concurs and can do nothing, as it's a software issue (1 1/2 yrs. now and not fixed.)

How many cars, especially in the luxury segment, have dual screens like that? Sounds like Acura/Honda is falling behind. I wouldn't worry about looking for likes and dislikes, just give an honest opinion. There are going to be those cars that, in your opinion, have no flaws at all. Don't worry about it so much.

I agree with your major likes and dislikes. Like the new "beak-less" grill. Like the powertrain combination, although I must admit the 9-speed on the vehicle I test-drove shifted a bit oddly (frankly don't know why they don't just bite the bullet and go with a CVT). The SW-AWD is one of my favorite FWD-biased drive systems. I dislike the twin dash screens; my Hyundai Sonata has a much more user friendly single screen system.

I agree, although Nissan has had remarkable success using CVTs with their 3.5L VQ engine. Aisin builds some of the better transmissions out there; their HD CVT is rated up to 300 lb-ft. of torque.

the car overall is nice but they should put wheels on them that reflect the purchaser residents performance tires are not the best in the snow and rain and thw suspension sucks on city atreets like NYC where I live and purchased. pots holes everywhere and for a car at this price point I ahouldnr feel like I'm on a safari and hard butt hits and the sport seats are not necessary for all drivers

Well at least the fixed the cheesy beak... that being said, my 2012 was a great SUV - except for the transmission that left you waiting for HOURS to get things moving. A really well made, luxurious vehicle, great stereo, torque vectoring etc... but that transmission didn't play nicely. Lots of them on the used car lots now, including mine. I forked over the extra $30K and bought a Range Rover Sport Supercharged. I'm currently in heaven. Permanently.
