The US MIM-23 HAWK anti-aircraft missile system was developed by the Raytheon Corporation and it entered into service with the United States Armed Forces in the 1960s era.
Since then, the MIM-23 HAWK is upgraded many times, and is modified to intercept new types of missiles. Hawk was superseded by the MIM-104 Patriot in US Army service by 1994. The last US user was the US Marine Corps, who used theirs until 2002 when they were replaced with the man-portable short-range FIM-92 Stinger.
The missile was also produced outside the US in Western Europe, Japan and Iran. The US never used the Hawk in combat, but it has been employed numerous times by other nations. Approximately 40,000 of the missiles were produced.

As a former Hawk missile systems technician I can tell you the old HAWK still has a lot of service left in her. You'd be surprised at some of the things that we made those missiles do. Almost all of the footage of the HAWK is old footage, before any of the improvements, and I like it that way because that means that the surprises are still in store for the Soviets trying to go against it in Ukraine.

1. The soviets don't exist, you are 30 years out of date. 2. If the Russians have no issues with the Patriot system they wont have a problem with hawk given they have the most advanced electronic countermeasures and air defences on earth.

Agreed it's a very effective a/a missile system took out 44 aircraft in the Iran war It's also hell for me in DCS 😂 hawk site always takes me out I find it's actually one of the hardest sams to defend against in DCS due to just how good its at close range they hit helis on ground basically cant defend against them compared to others

@@descentmvm the pilots always hated the fact we were located near the flightline at Cherry Point. We would lock on them with the radar, and their SAM alerts would go off while they were trying to land. LOL

"""Outdated and Useless Weapon in Modern Warfare ''""" this tittle is BS ... this system would have been "outdated" but still very usefull if every country was using only 2020 equipment . and this old dog would still do its job btw .. anyway since all countries still use older tech this equipment is stil VERY VERY usefull ... do better systems exist ? sure...

I totally agree - I served for 12 years on a HAWK site in Germany. The system is effective if integrated in a larger number of units led by BOC´s and Sector Commands. In terms of using it now in the Ukrainian defense, given the complexity of the system, I would have concerns whether critical criterias might be obtaineable, such as "time" for required training of operators, maintenance, supervisors, BCO´s and TCA´s plus time and "stable infrastructure" for the "set up and maintaining of required storage and logistics for spare parts" which you will definatly need. So if decided to use the Spanish granted systems in the Ukrainian war than.... GOOD LUCK with it They should give them the German Roland SAM System 😉

One of my MOSs. Hawk Missile Radar Mechanic. We fired them for practice at WHITE SANDS MISSILE RANGE. At that time it was pointed out to us operators that the HAWK MISSILE could reach the moon in 7 minutes if it had enough fuel. Coming back from Vietnam in 1970, I met a Nam grunt carrying a 17th century DUTCH musket. I asked him where he got it. From a dead Viet Cong soldier -- And he was USING IT, he told me. The musket was still lethal.

The tactics that Iran used was so important. Iraq airforce could attack the radars from far distance so Iranian used 2 tactics for that. The hawk was good but if you have no tactic it's an easy target itself. Here is Iranian🇮🇷 Tactic for shooting aircraft : Shah(king) of Iran bought many Hawk systems and many Spare parts. So in that war Iranian synced 2 radars in 1 system(because Iraq airforce had anti radar missile) they used 1 radar in 1 distance as a target for Iraq airforce and they used 1 radar near target(border)(and it was standby with no radar waves). The second tactic was about after 4 years when they learned many things about Hawk. They started to sync all of the Radars in a huge area and they were using many radars to detect the target. When the aircraft entered in the range of a radar, the radar personel started to read the flight pattern and they turned off the radar. The next radar in the next location was ready and they were waiting for target in standby mode.in this tactic they destroyed 74 aircraft and 11 helicopter in just 1 operation. The wal-fajr Operation_(Dawn operation)

In the 1980s the missiles themselves were 200K each. The launcher, loader, radars, control van, and assorted cables were on top of that. As a former 16D, I can tell you that this was a phenomenal system that hit what we aimed at. People commenting here that think this system was a dud are not speaking from a place of knowledge. I would disregard their comments entirely.

@@kentwooley7810 Im more worried about the generational theft taking place, for the benefit of a foreign nation. Bully for the Hawk though. Uncle MIC of the 60s spared no expense. The buzzcuts and bowties crowd must have been going through sliderulers like they were an infinite supply of them made out of freshly recycled wwii bombers.

The hawk was made to shoot down late 60s aircraft like the SU -24 that Russia is still using today !!! and thats a relic form the early cold war itself.... in fact if you look at Russia's military overrall Navy Air Force and Army a good 40% or more of there equipment is analog and made in the 70s .... even the improved Hawk is more advanced than that . The original Hind helicopter is still being used and its ancient by tech standards the Hawk would easily down them. any med range anti air battery is usefull. The rapier system that the UK and Australia used in the 80s has the worst success rate only 10% or so in the Faklans war yet even at such a low level if you were a pilot would you try to fly over it in a contested area and risk it ? prob not . The rapier was even less capable then the hawk with a 12 km or so range and needed to be manually guided
