I tell you what... finding the right writing utensil can be a real chore. Come with me as I review several of the heavy hitters in the Bible marking game! I'm not sure if I'll do another one of these videos as I tend to just work with what I've got, and right now, I have a lot of pens! I hope this video helps you hammer out what you'd like to mark in your Bibles with.
The best Bible out there, is the one you read! May God bless you and your Bible studies!

Do you ever mess up your markings? How do you deal with it? I just bought a new Wide Margin and have messed up some markings and its driving me crazy. I have used some white gel pens to fix as best as possible.

Excellent question! I've considered all of the options (that I know of at least), and to me they all look worse than the simplest solution I use. I just do one simple line through the word that I messed up. If you're worried about ideas or longer entries that might change while reading the Bible, I might suggest using a mechanical pencil instead. That will give you the best results for correction. It's important to remember that even though the word of God is perfect, we are not. Mistakes happen, and that's okay. I write a lot, and the chances of me going back and reading my notes are slim to none. I know some people want to create something to pass down for their kids, but more than likely, our kids will not value Bibles as much as we do. If they do happen to value them greatly, they will be fine with some scribbles here and there. Also, I wouldn't want my kid to sit down and read 2,000 pages of my notes. Hopefully I've taught him well enough to remember the lessons on his own, or know how to study the Bible properly for himself. Sorry for the rant! :D

I always like pen videos. I only use black pens and yellow highlighters. I can't get into color coding because it takes away from my studying having to find the correct color to write or underline. What I use: I do use the Mr. Pen Sleek yellow for highlighting. Sometimes I will use the Sharpie Gel Highlighter. Very comparable to the Mr Pen Sleek. Both a kinda tacky at times after highlighting. I also use the black Pentel Slicci 0.25mm for writing in the margins. I started using those after getting rid of the Pilot G-Tec-C4 and the Pilot G-Tec-C3. I also use to the Pigma Micron 005 to write in the margins and the Pigma Micron 01 to underline. Good review. Thanks for showing us.

I’ve moved away from highlighting but for marking I have settled on a .3 mm mechanical pencil with a soft 2B lead. I love being able to erase. Pencil is archival enough and doesn’t bleed obviously.

I've seen good results with pencils holding up over the years. You'll see the marks fade over time if you carry the Bible a lot (I'm assuming because of the friction of the pages against the graphite).

I'm CRUSHED that you're not in love with the Pilot Hi-Tech! I LOVE those pens! Except for Uni StyleFit pens, I use nothing else except 0.3 mechanical pencils. I use both the Pilot and the Uni customizable multi pens. (They're both gel ink, by the way). The pen bodies can each hold up to 5 colors, and multiple size refills. As for your blobbing, the pen tip looked like it might have had some paper dust or something on it. Try occasionally giving it a wipe before writing. I have NEVER had a problem with blobbing or skipping with my Pilot and Uni. : )

I have several others of the same pen. I'm hoping that one was just a problem child. I had great success with the other two, and the Zebra was incredibly smooth. Thank you for your comment!

The Dicksons highlighter. It comes in yellow, pink, blue, and green. There is a bible bookstore in Piqua Ohio that sells them.

I've seen them from time to time online, but they are usually pretty expensive. From what I can tell, the Crayola appears to be the same exact thing. Not sure if they changed the formulation or anything, but very similar and more readily available at least.

I haven’t really tired to take lengthy notes in my Bible yet but I do highlight using colored pencils. It takes a little more time but it’s more brighter than the gel highlighters.

I'll admit, it's not for everyone. I grew up in schools that focused heavily on note-taking and annotating within margins, so it's something that helps me retain the information. BUT, I can totally understanding not writing in Bibles either. The ones I showcased are the only ones in my collection that have writing in them. I have only a few other's that I have plans to write in, but the majority of them will remain ink free.

@@RustyBibles I'm not opposed to note taking. I just haven't found a way to make it look neat and it legible. Once I get the money, I'd love to buy the Holy Land Archaeology CSB Bible. I could see myself taking note in that one because it'll already have so much extra in it, I wouldn't need to add a ton lol.

I've settled on Pigma Micron PN pens for under lighting and taking notes in the back of my Bible. I really like those pens. The 005 I use for notes in the margins. I just don't care for any of the other optoons. Believe me, it was a deep breath moment for me when I first put pen to paper in my Longprimer.😬
@RustyBibles
@RustyBibles Жыл бұрын
I haven't quite been able to write in my Longprimer, but you've definitely chosen the right implement to do it with. The Microns are really second to none. I just wish the nib was a little more durable (or at least replaceable).
@CrimeDefender
@CrimeDefender Жыл бұрын
The PNs have plastic nibs and aren't as fragile as the regular pigma microns. At least, that's what I understand.

Isn’t the problem with the dry highlighters is there like wax and preventing writing on the highlighted area ?
@RustyBibles
@RustyBibles Жыл бұрын
They are waxy, yes. It takes about two weeks for them to lose their "tacky" feeling on a heavily highlighted page. I'm not sure about writing on the highlighted section since I write first, then highlight. It wouldn't surprise me though.

Don't underestimate those cheap Bic ballpoints. They actually work in all Bibles. No bleeding or show- through. And pennies to the dollar compared to the fancy Microns!
@RustyBibles
@RustyBibles 2 жыл бұрын
My only hesitation with ball-point pens is that the ink is oil based and will bleed outwards as time goes on, causing the text to look fuzzy. I have some older examples of this, and I'm not sure if it's all ink, but I've seen enough to cause some concern for the longevity of the notes.
@emelphick4742
@emelphick4742 Жыл бұрын
Rusty is correct, it’s a gamble with ballpoint pens due to being oil based. On cheap bibles I suppose one could take the chance but I would never recommend it for more expensive or rare, etc. bibles. What Rusty describes exactly happened to me when I used a common Papermate ballpoint pen unfortunately on my favourite thinline bible years ago, printed on nice paper in Belgium & now out of print. After some days the ink began to spread on the page and made a fuzzy blotchy mess , as it continued to spread for years. From then on I only used microns or archival type of inks such as Pilot G Tech.

Haha! That one is affectionately known as the Judge by Bible collectors. It is the standard by which all other Bibles are judged. They are long since discontinued. If you can find a like new one, they usually sell from $400 to $700. I did hear that Lockman may be bringing an updated version of it back, so keep an eye on them in the future.

@@RustyBibles I'm not sure. I think it weighs around 1kg / 2 lbs, though. How heavy would you say yours is? I love mine, but it would be nice with a lighter and smaller one. Also, the cover on yours is black, but I've only seen brown ones and the camouflage that I have

@@deturco Mine comes in at 764 grams, and measures 22.3cm x 15cm x 3.3 cm. I painted the cover on mine. It was originally the camo edition, but the camo print started coming off, so the weight from the factory might be a little less.

@@deturco Haha! I used a spray can of FlexSeal. It's a polyurethane product. I just taped off the pages and sprayed it from a couple of feet way. I didn't sand down the cover before I sprayed it, so the coating is slowly starting to chip off.

great video. I would avoid Crayola. As much as i like even their crayons - they have gone crazy woke. For a kids company to push hard on PRIDE, trans-ing children and CRT is just too much. Look into other similar brands, as hard as it is to find. There are alternatives
