Here's What It's Like Maxing Out the Nissan Titan's Payload Capacity

Tonight I used a 2020 Nissan Titan Pro-4X to haul about 1400 pounds worth of bagged rock from Lowe's to my house. Factoring in the weight of myself and my wife and the bags quoted weight of 30 lbs, this would just about max out the Titan's payload. Upon weighing several of the bags of rock when I got home though, I learned that they each weighed - on average - 4 pounds more than their stated weight, meaning that we likely exceeded the vehicle's payload capacity by about 150 pounds. Either way, the truck handled the weight really well, and the most eventful part of the whole ordeal was the tailgate falling off during the load up process.

The tailgate is meant to do that, my 2009 does the same thing. It’s for easy removal when loading things like that 😉

It's made to do that. Some guys just use an aftermarket tailgate cargo net. Desert style. FWIW, it is underrated, especially in the XD.

It's certainly not a bad truck, but this isn't the point I was trying to make with this video - I imagine any truck would've handled a full load in the same way.

Also the value for the money. With the other brands increasing their prices, Nissan is having an unique opportunity to add more buyers.

It seems like everyone doesn’t understand that all pickup truck tailgates (for the most part) are meant to be taken off and put back on if needed quickly. That’s why locking tailgates are such a thing now that tailgates cost so much these days when stolen. Literally takes less than 2 minutes to take on off and put it back on. Put them at a 45’ angle and pull after releasing the two cable supports. The truck didn’t do anything wrong, just got it at a funny angle.

Titans don't inflate their payload like the big three...on my third one. As a farmer I overload mine frequently pulling a 10,000 pound skidsteer plus a trailer...I did upgrade to the XD though when I bought a new 22' gooseneck livestock trailer...great trucks!

Love this truck. I want one still keep my 2015 Rogue use the Titan for buying stuff from Lowes or etc., especially with this COVID-19 pandemic need larger truck still drive it daily.

1630 is the max payload on like a base model. You would have to look at your door sticker to see what actual payload capacity is.

My 2018 Titan SV CCSB 4X4 is rated at 1,489lbs

Mine doesn’t have the moon roof 21 pro4x red and it is 1377

Even my 07 Titan tailgate can be taken off pretty easy if need. Also, i’ve had a front end loader load full of gravel dumped in the back of my 07, and it probably felt the same as your load in this video. Great video, keep it up 👍🏽

Thanks for not tearing into me too hard for the tailgate comment - I didn't realize they were supposed to come off in that manner, but it makes sense!

Although this may be an older video. ALWAYS,ALWAYS be sure to carry some ratchet straps w/ you ' cause you never know when you'll need them. [ get the ones w/ the J Hooks easier to use] .I have a 2019 Titan XD Cc 6 1/2 ft bed and the V- 8 Cummins.

Watching this because I just loaded 1.5 pallet of brick pavers in the bed and took it 40 miles. Approximately 3000lbs. 2020 titan SL with towing package. It Doesn’t appear to be suffering but I won’t do it again.

Single cab 1990s ford v8 with manual transmission. We used to load it up like this every day. Trucks are meant to be loaded, towing. Abused daily. And this truck is no different.

Install Timbren SES springs in rear. Amazing if you are hauling and towing heavy loads.

You're actually overloaded by 300 lb or so. The 1600 lbs payload is for a base trim nit pro4x.

Apparently there was a disagreement between the engineers & the lawyers at Nissan. The engineers wanted to post its true capable toe & payload numbers, the lawyers wanted to play it safe. Gotta makes you wonder what this truck is really capable of doing. I own a Pro4X & it sure feels stout

I don't understand why Ridgeline's payload is almost as large at this 3/4 ton truck. Why bother with Titan then and not just get a Ridgeline?

"Why not just get a Ridgeline" is a question that should be asked of so many truck buyers.

@@ChrisONeillUSA Yes, probably if I was towing regularly, I would have bought Titan. otherwise, Ridgeline looks adequate for my needs. I have a huge backyard and a garden, and regularly haul loads of compost, mulch, cow manure, etc. For example top soil is sold in bulk typically by a cubic yard, which weights just over 2000lbs. I was hoping baseline trim of Titan could handle that and even maybe a cubic yard of sand (near 3000 lbs). I own ZR2 by the way.

The Titan uses a 5.6 L V8. Assuming you're thinking of the Tundra, which uses a 5.7 L.

Mercedes is using Nissan NAVARA's body for their X-CLASS. TITAN will tow you your van + its payload and its towing capacity all at the same time. as I once towed 12000 + pounds with my 2004 INFINITI QX56, which shares same power train as TITAN.
