There is a lady around where I live (central TX) that has been driving a early 70s f250 camper special all original since I could remember up until now. Probably 20 years I can remember. she still cruises her truck even though she has to be in her mid 90s No platinum super duty will ever be as cool as that lady in her truck.

Good story! I am the original owner of my 1977 K10 Chevy, Even though it only has about 100,000 miles on it it needs a lot of work. Maybe someday I will get started on it. I found the story about this Ford very inspirational.

my Dad owned a 1974 Ford F150 for 20 years of its life. My Mom wanted him to buy the "Candy Apple Red" one with white piping. I recall it had a beigh interior and the word "Custom" on the glove box in chrome. I also recall how it rattled incessantly on the highway only after year two of my Dad's ownership. I was probably 5 or 6 then. He commuted to work and took us to the mall. The Ourey Colorado camping he was younger then in 1975 than I am now. His truck was driven off the showroom floor in late 1973. The Colorado trip required him to "ride" the clutch just to get the torque to climb the steeps in the trip up into thje mountains. I was maybe 4-but remember clearly, my brother was 2 and we road half the trip in the carpeted bed with a camper. My Dad didn't realize you don't drive an In-line 6 2bbl carb three-in-a-tree transmission basic truck into the colorado moujntains. He also told me later he probably needed the carb adjusted. He damaged the clutch, never got it fixed. But managed to use it in all the freeplay for 15 years after that. I learned to drive stick on it and was hard as the clutch had much freeplay. I learned to drive stick at age 14. He gave the truck up to a guy who knew how to modify it to a V8 dually. At the out of town Walmart, I saw it later, it was not the same truck I grew up with. the guy turned it into a flat bed. The engine was obviously changed out as it roared. My Dad just told me, "Its his truck not my business.." and we walked away.

I absolutely love it! I had a 1974 f100 same color, same truck pretty much. It had a 302 2bbl with a 3 speed on the column and 4 wheel drum brakes. I learned to drive a manual transmission in that truck. It only had about 80k miles on it when I foolishly sold it in the late 90s. It was a fantastic truck. Never really broke down. It did need a thermostat in the real 90s. That's really about it. Loved that truck!

What a great truck, and good story for it too,...well done! I'll admit I was wishing it had a straight six in that engine bay,..but hey, there's nothing at all wrong with a 302 either. So this truck was $ 5.200,00 in 1977? In 1977 median money income of US households was $ 13.570,00. So an average US household could, in theory, buy two of these trucks and stil have $ 3.170,00 left (that's 23 % of the total income). In 2019, median money income of US households was $ 68.703,00. Since the 2019 equivalent Ford F-150 is about $ 30.000,00, the average US household only has $ 8.703,00 left after buying the second truck. That's only 12,6 % of the total 2019 household income. Where it was 23 % in 1977. Let that sink in.
