Since the country witnessed the uprising of thousands of Cubans in the Caribbean island, one of the issues much talked about on social media and by politicians is the U.S. embargo on Cuba. So, what exactly is it, and does it in fact play a role in what is currently happening within the island?

According to these experts, does the embargo have zero impact on Cubans? That's completely in contrary to all of the evidence that says otherwise. Their government may be responsible for the lion's share of the suffering, but the embargo absolutely exacerbates it. If these "experts" say otherwise, that requires some proof instead of just taking their word for it.

@Smethells2023
@Smethells2023 2 ай бұрын
@@marcydiaz6950Countries are not what are penalized, companies that do business with them are penalized. That’s the point to the Helms-Burton Act. Foreign companies that trade with them can be barred or restricted on business deals in the US. It also has sought to bar Cuba’s involvement with international finance institutions and business deals. There used to be a World Trade Organization panel that would process disputes about its enforcement, but that was disbanded after the US pressured them and the EU to drop the matter. Most of what ends up going to Cuba today for “trade” consists of raw materials: oil, for example. It’s an island nation, and they’re not gigantic and full of resources. Even so, they somehow have managed to survive in spite of the aggression committed against them.

Is Cuba who impose the embargo on his own people. Cuban government recently announced after the protests, that Cuban Americans can import Medicine and Food all they want without paying taxes until December. So, they were blocking us from importing food and medicine. I, as a Cuban American born in Cuba and lived there for 30 years, I can not travel with an American passport, however, I have to pay and absurd amount of money ($500) for a Cuban passport that expires every two years. I have been in Cuba only twice since I left, my briefcase got ripped at the airport and they basically stole some of the stuff I had for a family member, on top of that, they treat you like if you are the enemy. @@mikegrace2819 Thanks for the information. It's always good to check just in case I missed something. I remember that, at least in part, it was our economic embargo on Cuba that caused the USSR to send a huge number of rubles each year to keep propping up the Cuban dictatorship. Those who have never lived in a country where Socialism OR Communism governs the citizens of the country, have absolutely NO IDEA what they are talking about when they claim that Socialism and Communism are the same. I have first-hand knowledge and experience of both. I also have a degree in world history and political science. Please stop espousing misinformation. CUBA IS A COMMUNIST COUNTRY. CUBA IS NOT A SOCIALIST COUNTRY. SOCIALISM DOES NOT LEAD TO COMMUNISM. The lack of knowledge and the righteous way that many speak without any first hand knowledge of things is why this world is in trouble. We are baiting for the next leader to come along who will scream the loudest and proclaim what they say is true, just like Hitler did when the Germans felt lost and demoralized after WWI, and latched on to the first loud-mouthed, witty, public speaker, who did nothing but lie at the top of his lungs and make a country without a strong leader at the time, believe the garbage he claimed as truth. We continue to ignore history and facts and because of that, we will inevitably tempt history to repeat itself. Please crack open a book. Don't go online. Find a local library with history books written 50 years ago or more, that will be a good start if you want to educate yourself on geopolitics and the like. SMH

But isn't that what the US embargo was supposed to do. That's why it's been there for the past 63 years. If it wasn't to blame why would the US keep it placed on cuba. Also explain what mechanism in communism caused the shortage in food and medicine. Similarly suppose the Cuban people want to keep the state owned industries but want a Democratic Government or simply want to manage it themselves collectively. Would the US embargo still remain on them. Likewise if the cuban government becomes more repressive but cedes but officially abandoned communism in favor of Capitalism is the US going to keep the embargo even though the government remains repressive as ever.

Cuba is an island nation, needs to trade for food because it lacks the landmass to grow it. It traded w/ the soviet union until it was illegally dissolved (see the referendum for the preservation of the union), and now needs to trade with other crop-producing countries to survive. Many corporations would actually be happy to trade with cuba, but I guess that the "free market" isn't actually the goal. The actual goal being, of course, to re-install a right wing puppet dictator and to force the country into economic submission, to make the US bourgeois even wealthier off the backs of the third world. What a lack of theory does to a mf.

Or a murderous dictatorship that has cut internet, electricity and water to dissenting citizens and shot peaceful protesters in the streets of their own neighborhoods.

It's time for Cuba to become the 51st state. It would be the best thing for Cuban citizens and for the US.

Awesome indeed but this would piss off all the Puerto Rican’s lol, our own countrymen who want to be a State first. I agree, to some extent like making them as our free state but they are an unofficial state.
