@@yangzixiang6605 i dont think Arteta will ever put him as CB unless we run out of options though. He wants tall monsters for CBs with strong Ariel ability. That's Timber's biggest weakness even from Ajax days. The pecking order for CBs will likely be Gabriel/Saliba -> Tomiyasu -> Kiwior -> White -> Rice -> Timber. That isnt a slight on timber though, but his qualities are clearly more suited for LB/RB in Arteta's system.

I agree. Or at least I’ve wanted to see us try this for a while now. I still like the original idea of pairing a left-8 who can slide up to become a second striker with a CF who can drop to become a 4th midfielder, but the more I’ve seen of them the more I think we’ve simply had Jesus and Havertz the wrong way round. The attack certainly functions better with Havertz as the CF, providing structure and presence and a predictable point to look for, and I wonder if CM would be a better fit for Jesus’s natural inclination to be where the action is? He certainly has a lot of qualities that could be useful in that role, and it’s not like we haven’t tried everyone else there - Havertz, Trossard, Rice, Vieira, Smith Rowe, etc. Why not Jesus?

I'm not sure I can agree with the 5th and challengers and the odds will make it happen comment. I've supported arsenal since the last 80's, a young boy, but nevertheless and have seen the PL era in its entirety. Not sure about you. But I can't remember a team finishing in 5th-8th like we had for a number of years, to then jumping to becoming title challengers. There's at least some progression first or a squad ready for it anyway, bear a couple of signings, where a manager comes in and makes an instant impact. The latter has happened a few times, but our situation was more rare. Not saying its unique either, just rare/unusual. Each of those clubs you mention have their own "journeys", depending on a number of factors. Yep, injuries will happen and there is an element of luck with them. The club of course does its best to avoid it, but its going to happen. Not sure what your point is really... all we can do is control what we can and learn, improve and improve the squad. What happens with other clubs, is simply out of our control. We can only focus on what we're doing. We're a good place overall. Things to improve on, 100%, but overall we are in a good place to challenge for trophies🤷‍♂

@@gooner_duke2756you must have short memory. Chelsea did it all the time. Win the league one season, finish 10th the next. Liverpool went from challenging, to finishing 5th, to challenging. If Villa have a good summer, they could challenge as well.

@@TK-tl6ci I was more specific then that, but perhaps didn't explain it well. A team that had been finishing 5th-8th for a quite a number of seasons, **then** to challengers is a lot more unusual. Liverpool and Chelsea, like you said went from challenging, dropping places, back to challenging again. That's the difference. Villa finished 4th and have a good squad, so adding some quality, yes potentially they could challenge. Adding 20 pts its not easy, they have to get a lot right though.

You can hire the second best tactician in football history (assume Arteta is not), and he will not win the title. Because Pep is the best tactician in football history. Are we going to break ffp rules and spend like ManCity did? No. So on both tactical front and financial front, no matter who our manager is, we are not going to win the title, unless we have a bit of luck. The best any team can do is keep challenging until the luck has come.

Pep has revolutionised modern football. He is able to divide his tactics into thousand of pieces and feed/pre-instruct them into his players. Controlling every movements and positioning of his players like playing tactical chess under a microscope. This is the most advanced method of football tactics by a million miles in human history. How can you go more detail than that? You can’t. You can only be just as detailed. And the best tacticians to match that are Arteta, Xavi, Alonso and Fabregas.

Agree that Arsenal was fortunate to get a result in the games against ManCity. But a few years back we always lost 3-0, 4-0, when we play against them. We have improved a lot to make it close enough. So that when the luck comes, we can have the possibility to get a result. So credit to Arsenal to have the improvement. ManCity is clearly the better team, they hire the best tactician in football history, they bought a world class squad back then with unlimited money. If you don’t keep improving how can you possibly get even close to that standard? The best other teams can do is keep challenging until the luck has come.
