disagree with George on Saka... i don't think we desperately need to maximise Saka's offensive output, coz i don't see Saka as a Salah type... we need a prolific striker, then Saka would be perfect for his current role... aside from a prolific striker (Isak type), we need an initiator in the 8 position (Douglas Luiz type)

I've been in NYC this week for work, I brought a different kit for each day I was here. Signing a marque striker can bring fear to opponents before the ball is being kick. Need to add a fear factor.

One way to think about this is what do City have that we don’t….what or who are the difference makers…..here are some observations…… 1. We don’t have a world class ball striker or strikers 2. How many goals do we score for outside the box, not many 3. How many cheat codes do we have? By that I mean players that will pull you through when you aren’t playing well? We are the best coached team in Europe and probably the best team out of possession, and best system team. But we lack sparkle, creativity, and difference makers, a Foden who cuts inside and smashed the ball top corner against West Ham, or KDB coming on against Newcastle, scoring a brilliant individual goal and assisting the winner. We need to unleash our forward line, and bring in difference makers…..

Timber at right back. Ben white is super consistent but there are things that Timber brings that white cannot. Zini and timber played against Everton we may see more of that in the new season. Trusting the squad is a massive one for me. Question will we get a good player at RW when they know Saka will always start and effectively they’ll end up competing for the left wing slot like everyone else. Agree with maximising the LHS. Is rice the answer or do we switch him back to the 6 role and buy big!?

I liked a points raised on passing the ball especially against deep blocks. For lots of games our passing was not fast enough, we let opposition to regroup easily. In some games Arsenal gave easy balls away that let to conceding cheap goals.

If we look at comments from the players (I recall Odegaard saying this and someone else) about their slump in December, they all said that they were "tired". We need a stronger squad that Mikel trusts. We cant play Odegaard, Rice, Saka every game. When did we start losing points and played worse again in 2024? When we started playing Midweek games again with CL (Aston Villa & Bayern Munich games were back to back).

There are good analytical, micro, takes in the video and comments. I’m at a point, though, where my big and overarching goal is: to build a bench that Arteta has confidence in. Of course, 10-15% of that is Arteta growing as a manager (not using players is not only an indictment on the player). When we get to that point I’m sure (ok, hopeful!) that the makeup of the team will resemble a well-rounded and capable arsenal (hah).

I doubt you’d have questioned the squad depth (bar Havertz) in the beginning of the season. Hindsight is 20/20 and all that, but tell me how you cope with your shiny new toy, possibly season changing tactical position. breaking down for the entirety of the season after the first 45 minutes. Or your very exciting no. 9 having another career defining injury, or your other starboy having some confidence issues. Some storms you can’t predict, dude. Even Emile Smith Rowe: an injury, a pretty big surgery later, you obviously don’t hit the ground running. This was an excellent squad of players that the manager trusted at the beginning of the season. Pity your memories of ESR, Martinelli and Jesus are shallow. The manager just definitely knows more, and if there’s no injury problems, I don’t think any of those three players are any less integral for our future. That’s what trust means. You don’t have be a critique about everything; just claim the things that we weren’t so good in this season, like your breakdown of us not doing good against low blocks, and move on. I really hate it when players’ names are taken without much context.

Some media person should confront Arteta & tell him " You say one thing, but we look at your actions that speak louder - when you say a player is very special and important but you actions tell us more - that he is not someone you trust" - then let Arteta reconsider what words he choses next time to describe those players.

Arteta took too long to find out best team and best formation this season. Half the year we looked toothless in front of goal and it really cost us. By the time he had it figured out, we were too far behind and had to be basically perfect for the whole second half of the season.

It's clear we missed Xhaka's presence in midfield this season and Havertz has ultimately failed to fill those boots in the 8 role, so we undoubtedly need a creative a box to box. Ideally someone who can carry the ball and take a bit of the creative onus away from Odergaard. The David Silva to our KDB if you will (Rice is our Fernandinho). Idk if De Jong has the legs for this role, maybe someone like Pacqueta could work, or take a punt on someone like Xavi Simons. Anyone who has more quality than Vieira, ESR and Havertz as an 8 improves us. This would be my priority. Maybe Bruno G is the guy for this. If we sell one or both Lokonga and Parety, we will 100 per cent need another centre mid as quality depth, someone who can play both the 6 and the 8 to a decent level like Douglas Luiz or again Bruno G would be ideal. I would have said Lavia too before he signed for Chelsea. Anyone better than Partey improves us. I think it you look at City's engine room, rodri, bernado, kovacic, kdb, nunes, foden, the depth and quality they have there definitely gives them the edge. It's harsh but we can be relying on an older injury prone partey, jorginho, esr, and vieria to compete against that. Maybe Zubamendi or Neves can take this role, or Paulinha from Fulham. We need another explosive pacey winger, preferably someone who can play on both sides, someone who can back Saka up, and stand in for Martinelli when he isn't performing. Pedro Neto would have been ideal if not for the injuries. I would love to get Kudus but he'll probably be too expensive and I've never really seen him play on the left. Anyone who's better than Reiss Nelson will improve us, but ideally we need a top top quality player to really push the needle and create competition amongst the wide forwards. Soemone who can play instead of Saka without the level drastically dropping. I think this is potentially the hardest position to fill. Then finally, on the assumption Havertz starts up top for us next season, I believe we need to find a more clinical striker than Jesus (shouldn't be too hard) to bring in as a back up. Havertz, Jesus, and then a Sesko/Osimhen/Watkins/Toney/Gyokores is an improvement on Havertz Jesus and Nketiah. If we sign a more dangerous striker than Jesus to be a 2nd choice, it allows us to deploy Jesus as more of a quality depth wildcard who can play across the front 3. So for me, bolster the midfield with 2 quality signings, bolster the attack with an explosive winger and a clinical striker. 4 signings in total. I think we leave the defence as it is, Timber comes in as LB, and then depending on injuries and peformances we can reassess the need to sign a defensive reenforcement in January.
