I much prefer the 18, but I also used to like the 8 (The Hielan), which has sadly been discontinued. So it's not just the older, more expensive ones I like (in fact: I'm not really a fan of the 21 either...). Still, more 15 for you, more 18 for me sounds like a good deal!

Hi Sir I bought bottles of the glendronach 15year old, and the 18year old back in 2015,and then it was a great whiskey, I like the 15year old better than the 18year old, I still have 3 bottles of each,I remember the 18year old was costing me $160.00 per bottle, and the 15year year old was $95.00 dollars,I don't know what these bottles are costing nowadays being that now there chill filtered, I do love the 15year old better tho,great review as always Sir, keep up the great reviews !!!

Back in 2015 the 15 and 18 were essentially the same whisky. Both full Oloroso, and both similar age due to the mothballing. The only difference was cask selection by the blender. Also, GlenDronach chill filtration hasn't changed, despite rumours across whisky groups. Look into the GlenDronach comments on it, and the only reason their labelling has changed is because they joined the SWA and it's essentially a definition debate on what defines chill filtering.

100% my friend! People rushing out and paying absurd prices for the bottles that say non-chill filtered on them when they are almost certainly produced in the exact same way now as they were is madness.

The 18 is vastly superior to the great 15 (it's actually similar but it's all 300% more intense). I have only tried the nonchillfiltered 15 and 18, and that 18 was simply the best whisky I've ever tasted and absolutely worth 200usd.

All great whiskies! I have bottles of the 15, 18 and 21 and stand by my view in the video. Love them all for different reasons, but the 15 still has detectable spirit character which is why I think it's better - best of the distillery AND the cask 😉

I have stayed away from this newer version. The old version Billy Walker ones were in my opinion a tad better than the old 18 yr old. Although the 18 was more complex. That 15 is for me the benchmark for a heavily sherried scotch. I still have three and don’t know when I’ll be opening those 🤣. I have one older version of the 18 and one 2019 that says Rachel Berry so not sure how different that one is. Totally missed out on the 21. 🙁 As a side note. When I had less than a quarter of both the old 15 & 18 I merged them. The taste of the 18 was more dominant. Just an curious experiment.

You asked for it. The 15 is not better than the 18 year old. It's simply not... but this is coming from a guy who only tried the 18 years old bottled in 2019, which probably has 20+ years juice in it and it was basically the nectar of life.

Love it my brother! I would be disappointed if someone didn't say this! Don't get me wrong, I have bottles of all the GD age expressions in the core lineup and love them all for different reasons and the experience they provide!

Yeah it's like double as soon as you hit the 18 here in Oz. This is a great whisky at a fair price point.

Great review. I was lucky and got to taste the 15,18 & 21 side by side. The 18 came out on top for me over the 15 but not by much. In fact all three were super close and I wouldn't turn down a dram of anyone of those. Have you tried any of the Cask Strength Glendronach's? They are interesting. Cheers!

Thank you mate! Yes this is how I too tried the GlenDronach range initially, all side by side which made it easy to determine the cask influence was more dominate in the 18 (and extremely dominant in the 21!) but the spirit character was still present on the 15 which was my favourite on the night due to this balance. Nor would I turn down a dram of any of these either, and I have bottles of all of them! Have not tried the cask strength versions believe it or not, will need to get around to it soon 🥃

Had a GD 18 (2016) in my glass yesterday. Just a remark on the 15. The new 15 can't be compared to the old one (doesn't matter as you only get the new one anyway). It's a different whisky. The 15 was discontinued in 2015 due to a lack of stock following the distillery’’s closure between 1996 and 2001 but returned in 2018 featuring both Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez sweet sherry casks, where older versions used only Oloroso sherry casks. And we all know the charts about the age-plus in the Billy Walker era. He used up the old stock, made Glendronach famous and left at its quality peak. Smart. Now the threw some crucial elements for whisky enthusiasts over board (NCF; what's next, the natural color?). They let us in the dark about that now. Good bye integrity malt, good bye good casks. It's now a mass market product. Sold its soul for $$$ In April 2016 to the American Brown-Forman Corporation. Not loyal to consumers, so don't expect our loyalty and out money. I moved on. There are alternatives.

I would pass on the current release of GD 12/15/18. This is chilled filtered and most likely colored. Compare it to the past releases say around 2012 or 2015, taste profile is noticeably different. Not worth what it costs in USA for me.

The new releases still state Natural Colour on the front of the tube so they have to be. In terms of the chill filtration there is a great article on dram face about this, more or less nothing has changed at GD just that now they are part of the SWA their practices would not pass as non chill filtered hence why they can't put this on the label anymore. Read the article here www.dramface.com/features/2022/glendronach-12-filtration So whilst their labelling has changed, it's highly likely their approach hasn't, meaning the whisky has always been chill filtered (by SWA standards) and what we are really reminiscing about how they used to be is likely down to the fact that it used to be much older whisky in the bottle that was stated on the label thanks to Billy Walker milking all the very best casks in GlenDronach before he exited.

Best to worst? The 21 has great texture, but is over-oaked IMO as all the distillate character is drowned out, which is why I think the 15 is the sweet spot. Perfect cask to distillate balance 👌 I would say 15 - 18 - 21 - 12

Mouthfeel is really important to me,. That’s why I love both Deanston 12 and Bruchladdich Classic Laddie despite being younger and NAS (which probably means younger), respectively. The Glendronich 12 is disappointing with both its mouthfeel and its too short of a finish even though I love the nose and the flavor profile. The Glendronich 15 is one of my favorite Scotch whiskeys. It’s too bad the price is double that of the Deanston and the Laddie, which are both nearly as good (though have wildly different flavor profiles.)

It’s painful to watch these people holding the whisky in their mouth for over 15 seconds 😂 you can only taste the bitter and burn after 6 or 7 seconds

Not the case at all my friend, otherwise we wouldn’t do it 😉 Doesn’t burn at all at this ABV if you taste it right.
