I got a 2013 Buick Verano. It's got an oil leak on the passenger side. After cleaning up 2 or 3 years of mess, it seems like it's the Front Timing Cover gasket. Is there an easy way to fix this? How much should I expect to pay? It's at 160,000 miles It's a slow leak. it seems to take about a month to need oil.

Not surprised, when you search anything about car his videos come up more than any other. KZfaq makes or breaks you. People get happy when their channel starts growing and think it's because of their content. That used to be the case, now it's because KZfaq is promoting their videos over many others. Scotty's content is great, but it doesn't really give you car specific DIY. It's becoming hard to find that now because of how KZfaq promotes content to cater to the masses for entertainment and basic info.

Scotty, As a semi-retired tech, owner, and CC instructor (57 years experience) I have to say this; "please do not tell people to use any of the cooling system stop leak". Instead have them get it checked to see first what the actual problem is. I have had to replace too many radiators, heater cores, etc. due to that stop leak junk. If they were just going to drive the vehicle for a short time till they could get a another vehicle, then I would say it might be plausible. Note: had one a couple of years ago that was caused by a weak clamp (used one was put back on). It ended up having to get a new water pump, heater core and radiator because someone did not replace the clamp!

Sir! Question if I may ask. I have a friend’s husband’s car…2002 Honda Odyssey Van and when I drove it last Friday the steering wheel shimmed going over bumps but quit when the road was smooth. He bought two new front tires but not back wheel ones. What may be causing it? He’s already freaking out because he is a little short handed lately. Thank You!
@bradkerr2798
@bradkerr2798 5 ай бұрын
@@CountryTenn1365 Most likely is front control arm bushings, balljoints or tierods. Balljoints and tierods can be checked by lifting front end by control arm and checking for freeplay by grabbing the top and bottom of tire and twist, then repeat grabbing front and back of tire. Bushings can be visually inspected for degraded rubber or displacement from normal position, or checked for separation by prying to the side with prybar or large flat screwdriver. Should also inspect front subframe for rusted/weak or damaged/cracked areas and loose mounting bolts. Wheel alignment being way off can also cause unusual behaviour over bumps.

why didn't you find that weak clamp well before your replaced the new water pump, heater core and radiator? Because that would take a thorough point by point inspection and even most mechanics would likely miss that . And even those jobs are not particularly ridiculously expensive nor unwarranted. I'm sure you replaced the timing belt and components at the same time as the water pump, so that really wasn't money wasted even though it was more expensive than the clamp. How did a weak clamp cause a water pump, heater core and radiator failure?

Dear Scotty, one of your fans here. I just heard you say you're not a fan of Mitsubishi. You know, neither was I, until someone convinced me to buy one. I bought a 2019 Outlander SEL with 7 miles at $27K, and 5 years later it's about to reach 180,000 miles. The car has not given me one issue, except for regular maintenance, replacements of normal wear & tear items (tires, brakes, fluids, oil, belt etc) and one small cabin light bulb change, this car has been amazingly reliable. Everything works like it did on day 1. Since I'm reaching 200K this year, I'm looking at another Mitsubishi SEL because of my great experience with this one. I also considered Kia Telluride (gorgeous car) but after watching your videos and talking to friends, I no longer want one. I'm also considering a Honda Pilot or a Toyota Highlander. But Mitsubishi beats them on price by $10K for the same features. Now I'm sure of Mitsubishi's reliability and durability. My Outlander has shown me what a great value it is. I do Uber part time and it's been an amazing business tool. Just thought to pass along to you my experience with my Mitsubishi Outlander and get your take.

Yes, Mitsubishi's are good Japanese cars and great on the wallet. And they don't give those check engine light sensor problems like the the European cars. Mitsubishi's are easy friendly cars to work on and maintain. Unlike European ones, they are a mission to fix work on and maintain. The best cars we owned are the Japanese cars. But stay away from Nissan not so good.

My previous car was a 2017 Honda CRV and it had the parasitic drain issue. The cause was the e-break/parking brake issues that there was a recall on. The dealer said mine was not affected by the VIN number, but according to a document I downloaded from Honda it was. I had to fight the dealership to apply the fix. They reluctantly agreed and the fix worked. The fix was Service Bulletin 17-032 Parasitic battery draw from VSA modulator (Vehicle will not start) - Failed Part# 57114-TLA-A04

Scotty, your comment about 1/2 finished solar roof and company went bankrupt is only the least of it. I had solar installed in 2019 and the company that installed the solar went bankrupt a year later. A year after that my inverter went bad. Luckily the inverter had a twelve year warranty. I went back to the inverter company to get the inverter replaced and they said because of supply chain issues the inverters are on back order. Finally after 3 months of me calling the inverter company they tell me they are ready to ship the inverter to the inverter company that did the solar installation. I informed them that the installation company went bankrupt. They said just call another solar installer. I called near dozen installers and each asked if they installed my solar and I told them no. They each said they won’t touch the job even if I paid them. The reason they gave was the industry rule was if they touched some else’s install they owned it. They had to get it working. And they said the reason most installers went bankrupt was because they did a lousy job. So they were not taking any chances. I ended up having to email the inverter company company lawyer and tell them to send me the inverter and I would install it. They declined and ended up sending their own technician to do the inverter replacement. The technician ended up installing the 400 volt positive for the second solar array to ground. And luckily it didn’t smoke the system. I ended calling them and emailed them photos of their mistake. So I ended up rewiring the solar array to inverter. I got yelled at for correcting their mistake. Then I called the tech and told him to remote in and pair the second solar array on the inverter. Everything worked after that. My point is if your solar company goes bankrupt, another company won’t touch your system, they won’t let you fix it (even though you own it) and you take your chances if their tech does it. Have a nice day.

25¢ per kilowatt hour? In San Diego we were paying 42¢, but that was after adding in taxes and "fees". California has a new "weasel law" for electric bills. They propose lowering the cost per Kw/hr, but they will be raising the base fee in steps. The more you earn, the more you pay for the base fee. It seems that customers will be forced to share their income tax information with energy companies, or perhaps the state will just make it available to companies. Because the Kw/hr rates are going down, I'd bet that the companies will pay even less for the electricity they buy from solar panel owners.

Does anyone remember a small car from the early 80's that was turbo charged and apparently when you turned it off it had a little oil reserve that kept oil flowing to the turbo until it slowly stopped spinning? My neighbor had one and that's about all I can remember about it. It wasn't real powerful and it didn't look like a sports car at least to me anyway. I kinda think it was a 4 door. I got to ride in it a few times when I was around 12 to 14 ish. I just can't remember what kind of car it was. They always seemed to have strange car's. If you are going to get a Mercedes get a 1980's W123 body style and either the 240d or 300d or W126 which is a bigger car with more amenities. I have had a 1981 W123 240d for 10 years and it is a great car. The parts are still reasonable and with a little mechanic know how they are fairly easy to work on. The 300d may come with a turbo on the diesel and they also made a gasoline version. They are great cars. Generally if you get a 1980's or 1990's Mercedes you can get a great car but the quality started to drop after that and Mercedes Benz currently is a money pit.

As for the newer ones, one of the major problems is that the parts are too expensive and once the car gets to a certain age the repairs end up totaling the car. That's why you don't see many old 'newer year' mercedes on the road. But you do see them in used car lots because no one wants to repair them anymore.

I couldn't transport more than 1 passenger, no kids and a trip to Home Depot meant I could only buy light bulbs because anything bigger wouldn't fit. Being a truck guy for most of my years, I went back to a pickup and traded the Z for a Frontier Pro4X and haven't looked back.

Scotty, I have a 2006 Chrysler Town and County minivan with 159,000 miles. Recently am getting a hum from my fuel pump. I have no starting problems or hesitation while driving. When I shut the car off key in or out the hum continues until I open the door. Also if I turn the key to auxiliary mode in park I get the hum again. This him will continue until I remove the key then open the door - that's when the hum will stop. I'm not a mechanic; however I have changed engines on hot rods in my youth. I totally perplexed by this scenario. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you for any advice or suggestions you could offer. Love you channel.

I’ve been down this road, it’s not all it’s cracked up to be, the maintenance gets stupid… the batteries fail need replaced… the computers and inverters and capacitors and chit have issues… you can’t fix anything yourself because it high voltage… heat is an enemy.. cold makes everything charge slow and weak power… you still have to be hooked to the power grid and they buy the power back from you if you charge more than you can hold… insurance companies HATE homes with solar panels…. Probably need to have a new roof put on before you get the panels… need to have the roofer coordinate with the panel installation people so they’re on the same page… I mean bro the mess goes on and on and on.. don’t do it unless you’re really confident you know what you’re getting into

Those body style last forever and u can find them with less then 150k miles for less then $10k U.S.D I came across a few in CT had 100k miles for $7,500 and another with 80k miles for $9,500 They run and run low maintenance and last at least 300k miles just change oil every 5k miles and if u do mostly highway change every 10k miles and they’ll keep going Just check under car and frame for rotted frames.

To the Honda owner with a parasitic drain. I have 2010 Fusion that I purchased new in 2010. For years I had that issue. New batteries from the dealer under warranty and another new battery to replace one that I had to purchase after the warranty expired but the battery was still warranted. The service manager was no help because she explained to me that "We don't make the cars here." Took years but I discovered that my iPod Nano was constantly charging from the USB-A in the center console. Instead of radio or cd I listed to audio books. When I finally purchased an iPhone with blue tooth I no longer needed a cable for the iPod. No more battery drain. That Ford dealer is still in business and they still don't make Fords there.

Hey, more power to ya. 👍 Seriously, I'd defend the hell out of my beloved car (car brand/car country) if I truly loved it!_* But there is a twist to my rant. The twist is that I'm an American born dude but most of my close relatives/parents/grandparents/ancestors are all German! And to be clear. I'll continue to state that Germans are the MASTERS of OVER-ENGINEERED garbage autos. And unless those Germans change their strategy (which I doubt they never will), I'll *forever* rail against any car manufacturer (not just the German manufacturers) that designs/engineers cars in such a way that they are (diabolically) designed to not only be difficult (or nearly impossible) to repair by anyone (well, anyone *BUT* the car manufacturer's designated repair center - aka: the stealership), but to also often fail prematurely (by intentional design). AND TO BE CLEAR (PART 2), 50 years ago... I would have NEVER said this. Why never? For the following 2 main reasons: _1. I wasn't born yet. LOL_ _2. They built cars/parts that lasted for several YEARS (not MONTHS, as it is now), their cars weren't too difficult to work on by most DIYers, & their stuff wasn't designed to push owners to take this cars to the dealer (as it is ABSOLUTELY designed to do now)._
