The front leak is caused by an oil pressure port gasket. A $5 part that takes 15 minutes to replace. I don't see any oil near the heads, but if there is a leak it's probably the valve cover gaskets, not the head gaskets. I hope the owner of that car got a second opinion.

Boy, I knew this video would bring out the Benz Bashers!!!!!! I have an 05 MB SL500..........same engine that's in that car. I had a slight seep from the left side rocker cover, and that's it! Retorqued all to spec, cleaned it up, and good to go! Been about 3 years now and about 3500-4000 miles; still dry. Condition and use will determine how long a car will remain dependable, this car looks uncared for. Plus, it's a V-8 and folks tend to explore the power of it. Some sensible exercise, along will a solid maintenance schedule, keeps these powerful and smooth engines high and tight. These cars were MEANT to be DRIVEN. But NOT ripped like an old Chevy!!! Not many cars will take that kind of abuse, no matter the brand! Back me up a little, Scotty!!!! I love my roadster, hiway cruisin' with the top down, hearing my girl's V-8 snarling a bit off the pipes, oh baby, gimme Mercedes for the win!

Scotty, I have been watching your channel for some time and I love your advice and how to's. Now, I own a 2003 Toyota Tacoma TRD. The truck has 168,000 miles, and still drives relatively well. However, about a week ago I noticed the check engine light came on, and when I drive the truck say up a slight incline it jerks, or jolts. This doesn't happen when it downshifts only when it stays in a certain gear. I fear it may be the transmission. I had my father in law who like you has been a mechanic for decades, check it out. He did find a emissions leak code of which I do not remember the actual code. And he also found a slight leak in the engine cooling system. He treated both and the check engine light went off. However the jerking and jolting still persists. But not when I turn off the overdrive oddly enough. Idk but I have a hunch it could possibly be spark plugs or wires possibly going bad. Any ideas have you seen this before. Thank you.

Not all mechanics hate them, I work at a Mercedes dealership as a technician and to be entirely honest, I love working with them. Sure, you’ve got your trouble cars, but in my opinion they are extremely well made cars will minimal flaws considering their complexity.

I think the laws on buying catalytic converters vary from state to state. Here in South Carolina, to sell non ferrous metals to a scrap yard, such as aluminum and catalytic converters, you have to get a non ferrous scrap metal permit from the sheriff Dept in the county you live in. They record whether you’re just a private individual or a business owner, etc. Each time you go to the scrap metal yard, you have to show that permit. If you’re just an individual bringing in a lot of catalytic converters and there’s been thefts, the sheriff Dept looks into it.

Hi Scotty just a tip on a Mercedes with bad hood struts; put the hood into the service position then you wont have use sticks to prop up the hood, the hood will stay up on its own even with the bad struts.

Hey Scotty. Love watching your helpful videos. Not sure where to leave this question for your Q&A video. I'm shopping for a new or slightly used car. Steering towards 2017 BMW i3 94ah with range extender. What do think? My current vehicle is getting old but I take good care of it. You'll laugh. I drive a '96 Explorer XLT V6. Thanks, Scotty!!!

Hey Scotty I’ve got a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder 4x4 that has just over 208k miles on it. Things are starting to go bad, but I’m fixing them as they go bad. I’m gonna keep it. I just recently bought a clean 2014 Honda CR-V with just over 78k miles. Anything I should be looking for / things I should do coming up? Any answers would be greatly appreciated. Love your videos, keep up the great work.

I bought a used w211 e-class , and it's not left me stranded yet , fairly easy to maintain also . Oil filter is on top , mercedes can get a bad rap because the warning messages... I actually like it, a lot of cars won't give any warning they will just break down with no limp mode or any idea of what happened

Slightly different to other anecdotes i have read in the comments but years ago i got a guy going when i showed him a piece of broken spring. I showed him the piece and said broken spring and its not cheap job. Then i said its not from your car, i am just saying broken spring. His face was that well spoken about picture.

I call it the "Continuous Oil Change Program". My friend had a '63 Chevy pickup that between burning oil and leaks, it needed a quart every 75 miles. He knew that I changed my oil frequently, and I just saved the oil for him when I changed it. Hey, what's another 75 miles on oil that only has about 3,000 to 4,000 miles on it? If it was from the Model T Ford I had, it only had a few hundred miles on it. I would change it just because of how many months it had been in there.

Her Scotty, not a mechanic question but I have a curious question I have a Mercedes e class that's goes crazy, windows goes up/down, seat controls go crazy, radio and lights turn off and on trunk and sunroof randomly open. It's like it's haunted hahaha and it won't show information on any scanner where ever I take it, like it can read it. Someone told me it bc water from the AC system leaked into the main computer, and I don't know if I should risk replacing that part and see if a scanner will at least read my car.

Mr. Kilmer I'm currently in the market to buy a 2020 hatchback. I like the compact size and the extra room in the back. Based on decades of reliability I'm debating to get a Corolla or Civic (take as old as time right?) hatchback. I don't know if the oil dilution problem was fixed in the 2020 Civics. Also Toyota added 1 gear to the new 2020 Corolla CVT transmission which is new and I don't know if that's a good or bad thing. I know you've mentioned Mazda has up'd their quality game these past years so I've been eyeing the Mazda 3 hatchback because it has a 6 speed automatic transmission and not a cvt. It uses a bit more gas than the competitors but I don't mind as long as I get long term reliability because I'm planning to baby the maintenance out of whichever vehicle I purchase, strictly oversee all proper maintenance in order to make my vehicle last long. Overall Mr. Kilmer what do you recommend?
